Better Late than Pregnant - belated solo TR, Flamingo 1/27-28

Last minute random getaway to the promised land a couple weekends back; got antsy, had free time, price was right, so I booked a Go room at the Flamingo, flights on Virgin America out of Dallas Love, and headed west. I won't waste a ton of time explaining all the gory details, but I'll post my marginal pics below - it was a great time! I've stayed all over the strip, but somehow missed the old pink bird til now.... gotta say, the Go room was nice, the location was great, and the staff was awesome. Picked up a few badges, drunkenly devoured late night food, and had an overall great time. Pics coming.

Quick thoughts at this point -

I'll always be a Southwest guy because I live in Dallas and it's incredibly convenient (and I'm beholden to their frequent flyer program at this point), but the Virgin America experience was legit and that Virgin terminal at McCarran is like a whole new world next to the Southwest terminal....

First time in Harrah's (I always really enjoy playing there) since they renovated the front area by the strip; the piano bar expansion wasn't quite open yet but looked ready to go, they have moved the old bank of tournament slots back down by the Sportsbook and replaced it with the new bank above and added a convenience store/booze shop.

I know I bet 4 instead of 5 on most of my VP hands, and I know that's foolish, but I was boozing a lot and slow playing it while having a great time. Pretty sure I know the bartender at Bugsy's better than half my family now.

We just got back today and took Virgin from Love Field, did it last year for Super Bowl also, it is nice!

 

Is Harrahs holding the daily slot tournament yet? You indicated the tournament machines were now down by the Sportsbook.

 

Flamingo pools look great, from above anyway, and I love the room. Maybe I'll give them a try. Nice report.

Love all these pictures. I've always wanted to fly Virgin America, but it's never really a good choice from here. How was GR Fish & Chips? I love a good fish & chips.

 

Great pictures!! I just got back from Vegas yesterday. Flying back on April 7th on Virgin America out of JFK. Awesome airline!!

I really enjoyed it! I'm easy to please, but I found them to be delicious. The chips are great too - you can get them a number of different "styles"... and they give you two dipping sauces you choose from a long list, both were outstanding (as well as the standard malt vinegar).

 

How was Gordon Ramsey fish and chips? Undecided if I want to go! Thanks for the pics!

I dunno if the bartenders told you the minimum bet was $1, but I hate when they tell you that because that's technically the rule. Yeah, betting 5 quarters vs. 4 is a lot better, especially on Jacks because the only really big win is the Royal when betting max. Also 6/5 Jacks at CET bars is a redundant game offering. Playing Bonus Poker next time will give you an extra 20% payout on every quad with with every other hand paying exactly the same.

 

I'm staying at Flamingo for the first time next month. I figured I better stay at the last remaining Ocean's Eleven resort before they re-brand or tear it down too. Your pics only added to my anticipation.

 

I will be one week behind you -- the 14th. I'm on that 9 am non-stop flight. I can't wait!
