Huge WD fan here from day 1...I also followed some spoiler rumors that have been floating around online all year so I was expecting those two...it was just a difficult thing to watch even knowing that it's JUST a TV show. The gruesomeness of the second kill, and the way he was suffering - that is what got to me.

The acting on this show is top notch and that last scene after Negan left...heartbreaking.

There are thousands posting comments online about how they will never watch again and it went too far...I for one am glad that they did it this way. It is important for the story line and I'm actually excited to see what happens from here. Much more realistic than the good guys ALWAYS winning.... Those are the same "fans" that would've been upset if they hadn't had shown anything....ugh.

    I will definitely keep watching.

Did you watch the live 90 minute Talking Dead afterwards? I've never seen any other TV show have this much hype and such a huge following (Maybe Star Trek back in the day?)

Every episode of Lost was thoroughly scrutinized as well. If ABC had to do it over, I'm sure we'd see a Talking Lost (which I would have never missed). :D

I was surprised by that. I wonder how many of these people have watched seasons 1-6. We've seen some pretty rough stuff on this show before. Remember when Rick bit out the throat of that Claimer guy? Or when Daryl hooked that one walker in the eye sockets and ripped off his head to bash another walker? Or Noah's death in the revolving door. Yeah, it goes on an on. TWD is not for the faint of heart.

Last night's show was especially brutal. There were plenty of warnings though. Who didn't know what was going to come? Even if you hadn't been spoiled on who it was going to be, you knew at least one character was going to be beaten to death with a barbed-wire wrapped bat. If you read the comics, Glenn's scene was practically a shot for shot re-enactment. I didn't expect kittens and puppies and I was ready. When the first disclaimer came on the screen, my husband said, "DUH!" If that's not enough warning, I don't know what would have been.

I think other shows have had the rabid following and analysis, just not the follow up show. Lost came to mind for me too. Survivor is another one. I was on the Survivor Sucks board before they discovered the Gervase spoiler. They were a pretty rabid group of speculators and spoilers and they went NUTS for Lost too. I eventually got lost in all the over-analysis of the show and ended up leaving the board and just enjoying the ride for the last couple seasons. I saw some fairly wild analysis of Breaking Bad too. I guess it's a testament to a good show when people want to spend so much time talking about and analyzing what's going on.

I have Talking Dead on the Tivo for tonight as hubby needed to get up early for work. I did catch a few seconds towards the end on live TV and Chris Hardwick looked like someone made him do the icebucket challenge or something. I wondered if there had been a prank of some kind, but then I saw the cast members with umbrellas. Poor Chris. :haha:

Well, it was a very emotional episode that left me stunned and a bit angry. Not sure if I'll continue watching. Not because of the violence but I felt the producers wanted to jack with the fans, over and over again. At one point we are led to believe that all of them except for Rick was whacked. Time will tell.

I think that was Rick imagining what "could have happened". Negan told him to think about what just happened and what could have happened right before the montage. Plus they filmed all of them to avoid spoilers and they hate to waste footage. ;)

TV loves to manipulate the viewers and TWD is no exception. Remember Glenn and the dumpster last season?

I interpreted the cutaways as Rick reminding himself what could happen if he didn't do as Negan asked.

I love the Walking Dead and I will continue to watch. I have seen every episode of this show and I adored Abraham, I will so miss him, he was one of my favorites. I swear I just about cried when he was getting his head bashed in by Lucille.

Yes, they have some great actors on this show. The man playing Rick is amazing.

To be fair, the show gave Abraham a much better death than they did in the comics.

I didn't read any spoilers or follow the comics so it was a surprise to me. I didn't expect 2 people. Thought it was going to be Darryl for a minute there. However, for some reason I am not as broken up about this as I was with Beth. I'm thinking it is because I have had time to process the fact that someone major was going to die and exactly how it was going to happen. Beth was a surprise out of nowhere - also it isn't that I cared much for her really but Darryl's loss in that episode killed me.

Great point and I kinda agree, Beth was such a shock. I have watched the latest episode 3 times now and feel I now 'get it'! Add to that 'Talking Dead' comments, how they had to 'break Rick' and it all makes sense....this is a whole new direction for an amazing show. It makes Lost look like children's fiction, in my opinion this show is the best to hit tv. The charactorisation, the scrip writing and the shock factor are better than anything seen to date....looking forward to the next installment but won't be watching next week in Vegas, will have to catch up when I get home!

Yup. Daryl's face when he carried her out and Maggie's reaction was devastating. I never really cared for Beth as a character until that episode with just her and Daryl (Still) when we got to see a deeper side of her character. (just got goosebumps thinking about it) Death is a big part of this show. The characters all have to be aware that their moment could come at any time, although they get comfortable and forget for awhile sometimes. I think T-Dog was my biggest NOOOO! moment and Hershel was the one that made this cold heart of mine shed a tear. Until this week, I think Noah's death was the most traumatic to watch.

I didn't see Glenn coming at all this time and I read the comic. They have been mixing up the storyline enough that I don't accept everything in the comic as a basis for the show. I thought it was just Abraham :( and then it was happening, almost shot-for-shot from the comic.

We watched Talking Dead last night and I literally gave Andrew Lincoln (Rick) a standing ovation for his performance. He really portrayed that slow breaking down of his character well.

Agreed. Andrew Lincoln's performance in last season's finale and this season were amazing. The look on his face during Negan's speech was an unfettered "I. Fucked. Up. And now some of my friends are going to die."

All I know is I love Negan!! Well I think I'm going to love to hate him. Very excited about this character.

I've been watching since th beginning and I like the way the show is going now, it was feeling kind of stale last season or so. This gives so many new possible plot ideas

I think a good bad guy makes for a great show. The governor never did much for me. Meryl I thought was a solid bad guy, but no one's had that "holy hell, this guy might give the devil a run for his money", until Negan. (Outside of Hannibal in the TV show....he still masters this role in my book.)

Negan so far equals unequivocal brutality, but with enough savviness to know you need to hit like a sledgehammer, but leave the victim with something that they are still terrified of losing, keeping them on a tether.

Broken with something yet still to lose, creates subjugation. Broken with nothing left to lose, turns your victim from helpless, to hellbent on nothing but vengance, which makes for a dangerous enemy. The proverbial, "I might be going to hell, but you're coming with me."

Negan seems to get this, which is what makes him so frighteningly diabolical.

It was a really hard show to watch, but I'm always a sucker for a show with a great villan, and he's shaping up to potentially be one of the better ones I've seen in awhile!

Speaking of taking all fear of loss away, it'll be interesting to see how Maggie unfolds...

I've read all the above posts
    *
The Execution killing scenes were pretty brutal -- but brutality we've seen before.
I don't read the comic or spoilers -
    But in hindsight -
Negan wants to break Rick -
and sacrifice the other possible ALPHA males ( as examples, to the group ).
This is a true psychological scenario used in brutal situations.
    [ can't kill the star of the show,yet ! ]
So Darryl got lucky by being held hostage and not sacrificed. [ he's a HUGE co-star ! ]
Eugene was obviously NOT an Alpha male....covering eyes + crying.........non threat.
Glenn wasn't crying............... a threat perceived by Negan.
Abraham was visually defiant......absolute threat perceived.
Negan has to treat all woman as a non threat - because they aren't males - so no sacrifice made on them.
He considers them second class citizens ?

The baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire ? - is funny - the damn wire won't matter !!!! -
but it's a nice barbaric touch to the past war weapons of history.
    *
I think the show has repeated itself -
Here we go again, with another "bad guy leader".
I never liked The Governor ( sp ?) character and all that time, the show spent in that mode.I just didn't care for it.
But I also thought the "Time On The Farm" was so Soap Opera-y -- I almost completely lost interest - I thought the show might end for me !
and i do realize The Show was working on Character Development at that point
    *
Funny thing ?.......as I'm watching the actor playing Negan ( don't know his name ? )
I had a flashback to old cowboy movies !
There was an actor who looked like him........wore a black cowboy hat + shirt w/ a red bandana around his neck !
So, the character, Negan - reminds me of a bad guy / gunslinger from the old cowboy movies !
He's wearing that black leather jacket + leads his own band of outlaws across the wild frontier west.
He is not disfigured - they give him the rugged crazy, handsome look - but psychologically impaired for certain !
Negan is an tribute to that era of the Cowboy Bad Guy. ......( how to you spell ?....french word = .O-mage ? sp? ) sp?

    My 2 cents.

Yea, thanks for spoiling it WelshB*****, I've only waited about 9 months to watch this and then get it spoiled by one selfish comment. Haven't you ever heard of putting in a SPOILER ALERT??

Pretty annoyed that someone would post without thinking of others. Cheers for that!!!
