How is the The Palms?

How is the Palms? Does it have cheap/mid level priced drinks and a nice atmosphere? Or overpriced and boring?

 

You need to be a little more definitive. I have not payed for a drink when I was there. I play VP and get them comped. They are currently going through a transition, becoming a Station casino. Not that there is anything wrong with that! Personally, I love the Palms. The sports book is huge and the screens are clear and bright. They have great VP if you are a VP player. Are you looking to stay overnight? Tell us more about what you might be looking for.

 

For cheap drinks, go across the street to Gold Coast to their Gift Shop. You can get a 6-pack for around $6.50. I have stayed at the Palms a couple times. On weekends the atmosphere is definitely lively, they usually have a live band too. Weekdays not so much.

 

Its nice, does get a little dead during the day. Never have any luck there though. Or do mean like Ghost Bar. That's probably a little pricey.

 

Oh yeah, I should note Ghost Bar has half-off drinks 8:00-10:00

 

I have gotten spoiled with cheap drinks everywhere at Boyd properties thats for sure. lol

 

It's essentially strip pricing without the strip.

I stayed there over Xmas last year and it was extremely dead. Most of the restaurants closed, bars with one/two people in them. Not much action in the casino. Room was OK but not the cleanest and kinda run down, and this was a "newly renovated" room.

Don't think I'd stay there again unless Stations turns it into something hot again. Think it's day is passed.

I tend to make a foray over to Palms and Gold Coast once per trip. It's an interesting place. You have, up near the top floor, Alize, which is a truly world-class fine dining experience with a magnificent view. At the same time, you have lots of good low-roller video poker and other locals-friendly stuff (movie theater, food court, etc.) in the casino. I agree that it can be quiet (I only have been there on weekdays), but I personally like a quiet-ish casino.

 

Strip pricing? That's not true at all. Rooms are regularly offered on weeknights for about $50. I paid $49 last month (and got a great free upgrade). The Palms is a bargain to stay at. Prices are higher certain days/times of course, the same as every other property in town. It's definitely deader in there than years past. No doubt about it. Personally I don't mind it. What do I care if there are a thousand people in there or a hundred? I can easily get on a craps table, find an open seat for some $5 blackjack, it's great. I don't need the "vibe" of being packed in with a bunch of Millennial's who are shitfaced after one drink. The sportsbook at the Palms isn't the largest in town or even the 10th largest. But I enjoy it quite a bit. Staying on the strip ran it's course a long time ago. I'll stay at the Palms or Red Rock or GVR over the strip. When I took my son for his first Vegas trip in June we did stay on the strip for a few nights before moving to the Palms. For a newbie staying on the strip is an experience.

Certainly it's all subjective. Some like the sardine atmosphere of the strip and that's fine. We all have different likes/dislikes. I love the fact that Vegas has so many different options for rooms, shows, gambling, food. Something for everyone.

Red Rock (the Corporation changed it's name from Station to Red Rock) said this week that they plan a 6-18 month "refreshening" of the Palms. It will be interesting to see what they do with it.

 

I agree VV. Great rates ($30 resort fee) usually include upgraded room, 2 free buffets and or ghost admission.
