Just got back from my first stay at the DG. Have to say I quite enjoyed it. I had a small offer of 2 nights, some fp and fb which was based on a couple hours of play in 2014. They put us in the tower across the street (cant recall the name) in a nice enough 2 queen room that was very quiet. The room quite decent with my only real complaint being the half glass door in the shower. Who thought that was a good idea? We arrived on a Wednesday night and it was free little bottle of vodka day. We earned enough points in a couple of hours for 3 little bottles (12 oz) of Sky vodka. They are also running a promotion where if you get 500 points you get a set of bake-ware. I quit picking them up after 4 sets - because really what the hell are you going to do with all of it. Also it was heavy and took up a lot of room. Anyways made me laugh..

We did go to the pool and really enjoyed it. The chairs were some of the best I have seen, the pool though was pretty damn cold even though they told me it was heated. Cabana rentals were more than reasonable - I think they said $75 weekday and $150 weekend food and beverage purchase only no other rental fee charged. I had a way better time than I have ever had at the GN pool which I always find crowded and full of kids. We ordered chips and guac which they make for you chair side. Also the waitress was super friendly and attentive.

All the staff were very friendly. We ate 3am snack at the coffee shop - pretty good food. The casino was very quiet so if this isn't your thing you may not enjoy it but for me it is perfect! Never had to fight to get a machine you wanted.

Excellent all round experience. I would definitely stay here again. It will be interesting to see what types of offers I get now.

Did you have the red room or the green room?

Was the walkway dark and secluded getting to that tower?

How was the drink service in the casino?

You don't have to take the walkway to the tower if you don't want, you can cross the street and go in from there. Although they do shut the ground floor service down at night in the west tower.

So, OP, how many bakeware sets did you see launched into the pool?

(I sometimes wonder about these giveaways that can't possible work for people flying. The Four Queens once gave out a Mexican picnic set that included a couple of huge bottles of margarita mix. smh)

    Thanks for the review.
We LOVE the Grand Casino--I love how they did it! Very New York loft feel...always so said how dead it is in there.
Hope we can get the word out to get more people to stay there!
But having to go across the street to the room is very odd...

I've been to the casino recently (for LVA coupons). It's such a nice casino, but so dead. It's never fun playing in an empty casino unfortunately.

But wouldn't the drink service be quicker in an empty casino?

You would certainly think so, but alas.At DTG and many other places these days, I have taken to slow-playing at the bar until I get a few belts in me, then retiring to a machine, if there's one I prefer.

Thanks for the review, I think we are going to stay there in October. I prefer MSS or the Plaza, but my wife would like a nice pool and I don't know how the Plaza's pool will turn out yet.

We had a green room. We took the walkway at 3am and didn't have any issues or feel unsafe at all. I thought it was very well lit. Even though it is across the road I think it was still closer than my room at the Mirage which was the very last one at the end of hall. Holy crap that was far. Drink service was maybe too good :) The waitress seemed pretty happy to get a tip and followed me around all night, never had an empty beer.

Now I completely love it when the casino is dead. I can get on any slot / VP machine I want. Getting assistance from a slot attendant is a breeze. No cigarette smoke issues. Always short lines at the casino cage.
Then again, when I am in the casino I want to gamble, I am not usually hanging out to socialize nor pick someone up.

Do they still close the table games at night or is it back to 24/7?

I was not really paying attention but I know my sister was playing roulette at 2 am.

I also would be happy to be the only person in the casino so the quietness was a plus for me

As of last December, no resort fee on comped room. And self park free for hotel guests, valet is free with some play (I can't remember how much) or with second tier players card level.
