I'm confused about the Canadian dollar at par deal. I'm trying to plan that "free" dealership trip and I'm being told the Canadian dollar promo expires on the 31st. When I called Downtown Grand today (Liz) she said she didn't know if it was being extended or not. I'm seriously looking at the Downtown Grand because of this promo. Any help?

Are you talking Dec 31 or Mar 31?

The website currently says Mar 31st, which is an extension they have done in the last couple of weeks. Based on that, you may not know if it extends beyond March until sometime in March.

If they don't honour it in Jan, I'll certainly let the board know.

The chick on the phone yesterday said Dec 31st. The website says March 31st. My trip dates are mid April. I'm wondering if it's likely to be extended.

Well, if they try to tell me it ended in December they will get a loooong talking to.

But yeah, extension past March I doubt they will announce for some time.

Just so it's clear, you know its just buying Free Play for the machines right?

Not that you werent going to play anyways, but that does change the value proposition a little bit...

Just slot play or does it include VP as well. I can't seem to figure it out the way it's written.

Would someone kindly post the link to this deal from their website as for whatever reason I cannot get their page to open.

    Appreciated.

I think this is an awesome deal. If you are a low-rolling VP player, you can profit from this and still have fun during the process.

Say you stay 5 nights at Downtown Grand. $2500 worth of free play purchased for $1875 equivalent of Canadian $. On vpfree2, Downtown Grand has 99.17% return as their best VP game for 25c. So, you cycle through the $2500 (2000 hands or about 3 hours), for a theoretical return of $2479, which leaves you a theoretical profit of $604.

Before I saw the official link, I googled and found this one:

    http://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/downtown-grand-hotel--casino-in-las-vegas-announces-new-canadian-ceo-and-gaming-promotion-for-canadian-visitors-530628121.html

    There it says:

Downtown Grand is offering each Canadian visitor the opportunity to purchase up to USD$500 per day in slot play for Canadian money at par.

If per day, it's a very sweet deal that I think all Canadians should book a room at Downtown Grand, even if they're staying elsewhere.

Looks like that article also mentions that the make rate is .75USD/1CAD. So I don't think you would even get $500USD.

True, you wouldn't get $500, as the loonie is around $0.72 right now, so you'd miss a few $. That $0.72 doesn't take into account the point or two you have to pay the bank or exchange company, though, so you must be getting $150 worth of FP per day versus bank exchange.

Now, I'm going to visit my Uncle in Phoenix in January. I wonder, if I bundle him and his girl in a car and drive 'em up, get one room for the night and put us all on the room, will I get $1500 per day?

When the dollar was $0.70 or so, got $191 US for $200 CAN. We got slightly more the day before because the rate was higher. It had to be Canadian cash you gave them. The names of the persons participating had to be registered on the room. I kind of liked it there, the casino was smaller than I expected but glad we tried it out. Plan to go again sometime when we can use the pool.

Im in LV for 11 days and have 11 days comped. Im wondering if it would be worth it to pay the room at the D for this reason. Probably not.

I think they might just have some fine print in the rules for trips THAT long.

How many days did you use this offer, and was it a preload for slot/vp play?

As long as the exchange stays below 75cents, you get the exchanged value + 125 USD for each 500 you exchange.

By my calculations, my buddy and I will need to get 0.80 return on the free play to have the promotion make the room essentially free.
