OK, one big happy all-encompassing come-as-you-are thread that answers THE question once and for all:

Drinks, hand jobs, room comps, buffets, good double-ply toilet paper ... what one final-straw thing that gets taken away has you saying adios to Vegas?

 

Tough question. I guess if they got rid of the room comps, the fine dining comps, then we would probably go from multiple trips per year, to one a year. I love gambling, but I am not addicted.

Even though I hate them, maybe 1 trip a year to local Indian casino. It certainly would free up a lot of discretionary funds for other trips to other places. The loss of the limo would not be a deal breaker, but we are a bit spoiled.

 

None of those. If I was forced to make a choice, I would say "hand jobs".

 

I wouldn't stop going to Vegas, but any number of things might make me come here less often, especially if the percentage cost vs. my enjoyment time changes for the worse. It could be the combination of room and dining costs, free-play, house advantage, etc. it all comes down to how much it will cost me at the end of the trip.

 

Golf for me.

I could say gambling: If gambling disappears I don't go to Vegas. Seems basic enough. But that's not really it. I sometimes don't gamble. The rest of the time I just dabble at it. Now of course without gambling there is no Vegas, just as assuredly as someone pulls the plug on Lake Mead. For me that would be a secondary impact however; gambling is what makes everything else possible so talking about Vegas w/o gambling is really a moot point.

Now assuming Vegas could somehow survive without gambling, I'd still go up once in a while to play golf. Take away Paiute and Coyote Springs and what not, and adios Vegas.

Oh, and a food scene of buffet, coffee shop, fast food and middling chain ... no thanks. I did say the one thing, however, so let's stick with golf.

 

It would be comps period, we've been eleven times and our most expensive trip was about $3300 for nine nights. that's air fare, rental car, rooms, food, drinks and gambling.....everything. Where else can we go that cheap.

 

None of it, honestly.

 

If they change the game odds too much, or lower the limits too much. I won't get the same rush of playing. One reason I don't go to PH is because the odds on the craps are a little worse than other places. So if I want to do a horn hi yo or a hop bet I get paid less....

 

I notice there is no mention of blow jobs.

 

Well then, Breeze, if a dearth of knobbers makes you give the kibosh to Vegas, then please just step up and be the first to say so!!

 

Odds going down more. HE going up to an obscene amount. Comps going bye bye or lowering theo to 5 or 10%. Making you give (deposit) blood before you deposit cash. Not letting you cash a 5.00 chip unless you give ID. Charging for Valet. Charging .25 to use the restroom. Charging 1000 for golf. Doubling food prices from where they are now. Charging $1000 a night for a mon, tue and wed stay. Charging for towels at the pool. Charging for coffee in VIP. That's what it would take.

 

If the climate of Vegas changed to match that of Wisconsin then Vegas would become a lot less attractive to my eyes--at least in winter!

It's really hard for us guys in Hawaii. We don't have anywhere to go. (To gamble.) But I can speak only for myself. Comps go away and I will go away too. Maybe once a year if I feel inclined. If Vegas is still there, that is.

 

The one thing that would stop me going is the closure, or marginalisation, of poker rooms. I love poker and Vegas has so many poker players that you are guaranteed action all day and all night. I know it takes up a lot of space that could be generating much more revenue for the casinos, but if they replaced the poker rooms with those higher earning activities, I wouldn't go. Which would mean I wouldn't be throwing away money on those higher house edge games when I wasn't playing poker.

 

If hotel room costs matched or exceeded the cost of a similar room in any city and there were no comps, it could be a game changer for us. The truth is that even low rollers can find a casino that will offer them a comp--we barely play at CET but have offers ALL the time. Of course, their rooms are not really "free" (as in you have to pay the resort fee unless you are a couple of steps up the club tiers), but they are still cheap. As in I won't stay at CET now if I have a choice of another brand that does not charge the resort fee for a comped room, but it would be acceptable (grudgingly) if that was the only or best option.

Since our other comps are pretty limited, losing them would not be a huge deal.

Bad rules and slot settings are an issue...not sure where it would have to go for us to avoid Vegas, but having better rules in another location might sway us away from there for some trips.

 

It would be the end of room comps for me. No free drinks would slow me down but I would probably come less. No room comps would just end it for me. I would just gamble locally and vacation doing something else than gambling.

 

We budget based on the freebies. When you get a room free or greatly reduced, AND you compare that to going 4-5 days in Washington D.C. / S.F. / L.A. / Seattle, etc. and paying for the room with taxes and fees. Also the cost of food compared with Vegas for other destinations is obvious.
We funnel this "savings" into our gambling budget and would probably not be able to budget a pleasant fraction of our play with prices being comparable to other cities we like to visit.
Not saying LV would be priced as other "big cities" but the perks figure prominently in our daily fund and we are ultra low maintenance when rolling.

 

There's just something that makes you feel like a winner already when you see that room calendar and it says 'Comp' all over it. Even though you feel kinda pissed after you arrive and they tell you your free room is ~$25 per night. But still, comp'd rooms for me.

 

If 3:2 ever actually disappears in Las Vegas, then I won't be back. I can drive 3 hours to Bosier City and play 3:2 DD pitch with S17 & DAS.
They would get 100% of my business.
