I haven't been posting as much in the last 12 months as we moved to the Reno area exactly one year ago, so most of my gambling is now done in Reno or in Carson City in 2-4 hour segments. I find I have become far less superstitious as I see odd events and outcomes on a regular basis no matter what pair of socks or earrings I wear! :)

I do love the paytables here.....everywhere you see DDB in dollars, it almost always has a 9/6 paytable (it is going to kill me to be at Wynn next month where the best paytables at dollars are 9/5) and it usually has a progressive.

I have been very fortunate two Sundays in a row at the Peppermill in Reno. This first picture is from 3/7 and the second picture from 3/14. I only held 2 cards in both cases and hit the highest progressive that is available (spades is always the highest) in the exact sequence both times. I think the VP programmers must have a sense of humor! I have yet to hit a sequential royal or a dealt royal in dollars like tbone posted.

Anyway, enjoy the vp porn.....I know I always enjoy what is posted here.

Nice hits! Same sequence, same suit and the jackpots were within $15 (or at least 15 credits) of each other!

    But, what the hell...?
Moving to Reno makes you forget basic math? I guarantee you had the same pair of earrings on for both these hits.:nono: At the very least, you had the same CW (and drink, of course).

Yeah, you are right about the drink.....they carry a Ravenswood Zinfandel in the high limit room bar that I swear has my name on it!

You probably noticed that the second progressive was just a 9/5 paytable........ It's interesting that the reset for both of them is $6250. Got to love the math here.......so much better than Vegas, but none of the ambiance! LOL Well, guy ambiance anyway.......

Great hits! But like Timspeed, I'm also curious about the Peppermill. Presumably you know the best places since you live there. We love Reno for its size, setting and better gambling. But we've found the VP selection (of good paytables, anyway) to be better at the Atlantis and Silver Legacy than the Peppermill.

The best VP paytables (we play dollar single and multi-line) at the Peppermill are the same as at Atlantis or GSR or the Silver Legacy......i.e. 8/5 Bonus, 9/6 Jacks and 9/6 DDB. You will even find some 9/7 TDB at Peppermill on some of their multiplay games. It's definitely very competitive here for VP. However, I have yet to see the progressive for the royal ever get into the $5000 range at Atlantis. Also, the free play we get at Atlantis is pitiful and 1/8th of what we get at the Peppermill and 1/2 compared to GSR, so we spend most of our time at either GSR or the Peppermill. Atlantis does have the big jackpot that can hit randomly......maybe that's how they make up for the lack of free play they give locals. I just can't get into a free play offering of $10-$100 (and it's always the $10) every other week. We try to make it downtown once a month and will play at Silver Legacy almost exclusively when we go downtown. Love Hussong's and Sterling Steakhouse at Silver Legacy.

I know that most here at VMB and in Reno love Atlantis, but we've had some issues where they have held machines for players that aren't even in the casino....but "they are good customers and they usually come in at this time of day". My DH even talked to the slot director about it. Next time you are in Atlantis, look at how many machines are out of service......it's higher there than any of the other casinos we frequent. I think the slot tournaments at Atlantis and GSR are better than the Peppermill, and the restaurants are evenly matched between the three.

And, because I am an analytical geek, I prepare a spreadsheet every month of the best plays in all of the casinos that we frequent. So, we know which casinos have 4X Tier days, who has 7X comp days, etc. This helps us target our play days to the best bang for our buck (no, I am not Jean Scott...although I used to read her posts). Frankly, this is another area where the Atlantis falls short, IMHO. They rarely have any 4X comp days and they never have any Tier multiplier days. Again, YMMV, this has just been our experience for the past year.

Oh yeah.....sigh......and if they move that number down to $600, my accountant is likely going to scream!

We play at Fandango and Bodines when in Carson City, Peppermill, GSR, Atlantis, Silver Legacy in Reno and Montbleu, Harveys, Harrah's at Lake Tahoe.

Can't get too wedded to a single casino as you just never know when they change their player programs! But, I like Fandango, Peppermill, GSR and Montbleu the best.

    Great hits!

Back to back Royals in the same suit and card order should happen every 480 royals on average...and the average royal cycle on 9/6 DDB is 40,799 hands of single line.

So...the average number of hands to see that occur would be about...19.58 million. It's a little rarer than a "throwaway royal" in a non-wild game (1 in ~14 million).

Wow......I had no idea and hadn't done the math on that. And yet, in the 12 years that I've been playing $ VP, I have yet to be dealt a royal.....or to get a throwaway one.........fingers crossed that this will happen when I'm playing triple play! Thanks for the insight on the math.

    luvstp,

Thanks for the comparison of the various casinos. Great to get intel from a local!

It's a shame that Reno struggles to gain traction these days. It's such a nice-sized town in a very nice setting with a lot of nearby attractions. The airport is great and lacks only one critical thing - airlines providing service! We enjoy Reno more than Vegas, but SW stopped flying there from Seattle and now it's only Alaska again, and we all know what a monopoly on airline flights means.

It really is a shame that they don't get more traction. We try to get to Tahoe at least once a month......one of the most beautiful places around. And, the casinos here are very generous with comps and free play. Also, there is something to do pretty much every weekend. The Balloon Races were my favorite event from last year and we'll be going again. We've also got the Thunderbirds coming and then there are the usual Hot August Nights, Burning Man....etc etc.

One thing that has surprised me is the big name entertainment we get here. I've seen Terry Fator and Larry the Cable guy downtown at the Silver Legacy (love that it is free) and we're going to see Billy Currington in a month or two. He just performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in front of 80,000 fans and yet he is going to be in the Peppermill ballroom.....for maybe 3000 people?

I know what you mean about the monopoly......a 55 minute flight to Vegas costs as much as it did when we lived in Houston if you booked in advance! Admittedly, I paid the extra $25 each way on Southwest so I could board early.

Congrats on the double royals. I was with a girlfriend some years back .She got dealt a sequential rf at of all places...the Cal Neva. Haven't been to Reno for a few years. I used to go twice a year with a group of girlfriends. Such fun. Stayed in all of the long gone hotels- Comstock,Onslow , Riverboat, Pioneer, Jesse Becks. Mapes and Sundowner. Sure has changed over the years. Last few trips split between Silver Legacy and Harrahs but it just can't compete with Vegas any longer I am afraid! We talk about the good old days now at dinner parties and want to do a reunion one day soon. Reminisce over great meals had at Harrahs Steakhouse with Café Diablo and lots of laughs and shopping at the Penny Lane Mall........sigh!! I must be getting old :)
