    it makes things pretty difficult.

Mrs. Hutz and I are planning our honeymoon for end of August/beginning of September...fly to San Fran, go to wine country, drive down the coast for a few days, a couple of days outside LA then fly to Vegas for four nights.

its kind of a dream trip for the both of us, and most of it is prepaid through a travel agency, but watching the dollar drop is putting a serious dent in our plans. Its an expensive enough trip to begin with, and losing about $300 out of every $1000 we exchange makes me kind of nauseous, especially considering we were getting $950 USD for the same $1000 when we last went in 2013.

I've got a bunch of LPs left from MyVegas, but those only go so far.

Just over 78 this morning. At this rate of freefall 75 doesn't seem far off.

Wooohoooo, FREE DRINKS at Caesars Windsor now..

I spend $18-$30 a spin in the slots/VP regardless of currency. So....my $18 a spin at Caesars Windsor would have cost me ~ $23 Canadian to play the same game in Vegas (so I'll be saving about $5 a spin).....which = FREE DRINKS for me and the wife!!!

You have to be positive right???

Damn shame the Casino Niagara is 6 plus hours away, a bit of a drive for a weekend getaway.......the $20 buffet is now $16 US with a great view of the falls.

its gonna get worse... another B.O.C interest rate cut is coming, plus the Fed is going to raise rates- loonie goes down, USD go up.

add the 3 or 4 cent cut the bank takes on every dollar exchanged, it gets pretty depressing.

I'm not much of a shopper anymore. Just returned from Vegas and had gone to look for some specific items. Factoring in the exchange, I will purchase them in Canada. Being a gambler, I still did play lots of this with money I'd bought earlier. I'm not feeling any real desire to return to lose an extra 30% because of the exchange. If I win, they withhold 30% that I might not get back from your government.

I didn't even buy any liquor at the duty free shop. That tells you the dollar is bad.

Even with a 30% hair cut still far cheaper than the LCBO.

So, I guess I need to open a Canadian account and start buying CDN $? Yikes. I feel for our Canadian friends who like to plow money into our economy. Perhaps a dumb question: With all the laws in place for "know your customer", preventing money laundering, etc...is it difficult/messy for a Canadian to open a US account denominated in USD?

Nope not at all. I opened up a USD account at my local bank to store some $$$ that I receive from the US via my partership in a US business.

    Canadian dollar so sad

As the Canadian dollar continues to slide, we are less likely to book a trip any time soon . And flights from Calgary are really expensive right now which I guess means that they can still fill the plane. Sigh. Any other Canadians playing the waiting game?

Not Canadian, but as an Australian I feel your pain. Though I wouldn't make a trip to the U.S. just for Vegas it still hurts to see the dollar continue to slide. Have been buying up some US dollars now for our trip on May as I don't think we have reached the bottom yet.

I'm waiting it out a bit. Looks at the CDN $ each month for 2009. Look at what's happening in the markets and how the USA is propping up the USD anyway they can.

Look at some of the global markets, and currencies.

Sure looks reminiscent of the financial crisis.

I think the USD will be feeling the heat sooner than later and the playing feild will be levelled a bit.

I turned on the data on my phone to compare prices using the BCLC products list. There wasn't enought difference for the Absolute I was looking at. Besides that, it would be going into a cupboard with all the other dusty bottles I didn't need.

Do you have an online LCBO products book?

My view exactly! Except most of my flights are on points so it doesn't hurt too bad. That said, if the comps stopped, so would I.

And what do you think will happen to Canada's economy if America has another recession? Your dollar value is going to stay right where it is for the foreseeable future.

It's crappy, but frankly, the CDN $ has been worth less than USD most of my adult life - it's the norm. I did buy USD cash early for my next trip which might save a few $...but life's too short to cancel trips over a few $.
