Planet Hollywood advice

I almost always stay at caesars, but my new host is at Pho so he has set me up there for next month. Any advice on room choices? Not sure what I'm booked for. How are the rooms, views etc? Anything on a Cp level(I stay at palace or Augustus) should I pay for an upgrade? Is it worth it? I love playing there! Big fan of the casino vibe. Love strip steak and koi(and I always hear earl is a must) I'm just a newbie to the rooms. Is there a diamond checkin like at caesars? Thanks for any info! 5 weeks to go!!

As far as rooms, looks like either a Fountain/Strip view or Resort room would be sufficient in your case.
I stayed in the Hip room last month and will again in November. I'm sure other people who have stayed in the upgraded rooms can give you more info.

 

I like a Resort Vista. I believe they will all be strip facing. Hunter would call that room type a jr suite. A Strip suite would also be in the same category. I would prefer the Vista over the Strip Suite. All Strip suites are over looking the pool. The pool is very loud in the afternoon. I like to grab a nap in the afternoon, so I don't like the Strip suite for that reason. I'm not sure if the pool party/DJ go throughout September. The Strip suite us also darker (the living room portion). I don't spend a lot of time in the room, so I don't really use that part. There is also a big round tub in the bathroom. I prefer the deep soaker tub in the Vista with a TV to watch as I soak.

If you get a regular Vista room, it will be fairly small, not nearly as nice as the Agustus Tower at Caesars.

I've also stayed in both a Panorama and Boulevard suite. Both were nice with good views, but for me, I don't need a suite. I'd rather my theo/comps go towards limos,spa,FB.

I always think Caesars is too big. I like PH and prefer to stay there. I wouldn't pay for an upgrade. If you're in a Resort room at the very least, it should be fine. Worst case scenario, you get to the room and you're not happy.....have Diamond checking move you.

 

We had the Strip Suite once (the one with the big tub) and didn't like it because no bathroom door and only sheer curtains in the bathroom.
This meant no way to block out the sun during the day if a quick snooze is needed and can't block out the night lights when sleeping.

The Resort Vista room is very small but the roomy bathroom makes up for it especially if more than one person is getting ready.

The Resort room is actually a nice size with a decent size bathroom. (Pictures and video in my trip report). Just didn't like the lack of room to hang clothes and the TV is off to the size.

 

Anything above a Hollywood Hip would be preferred.. as those are quite small. Resort rooms are about 100 ft larger, and have double sinks in the bathroom that makes quite a difference. Everything at PH is a little outdated, I don't think there is anything there that special.. It's not like Caesars where everything varies widely.

#1 tip is if you have a car, valet. The self park is ridiculous.

Also last time I stayed in a strip view room there, there was super loud noise coming from Cosmo until all hours of the night, we actually switched rooms... I don't know if that is still the case, but I would be a little wary of staying in a strip view room there.

 

There is a Diamond check-in through the doors to the right of the regular check-in counter. The Diamond Lounge is on the Mezzanine level through one of the hallways on the other side of the huge empty room from where the restaurants are.

 

I've stayed in the Resort Room and Resort Vista. Both are very nice and much better than the regular rooms. I think the vista only has one king bed and the tub is by the window in the bathroom. If you're diamond you won't have to pay for an upgrade. I've been bumped up from a regular hip room to resort rooms since diamond members get an automatic upgrade if better rooms are available.

The Resort Room is my new favorite. Stayed in one last month and the wife loves the double sinks and the extra room. Only negative is only one closet and we had a room overlooking the pool facing Cosmo which can be a little noisy if you turn in early.

I stayed there on Sept. 2nd and won't stay there again. Here is what I wrote elsewhere:

Good casino.
Great location on the strip.
Gordon Ramsey Burgr is excellent.
Very good $6.99 steak & eggs breakfast in Planet Dailies restaurant (they also have an "all-you-can-eat pancakes breakfast special at the same price. (Be sure to ask for it because it isn't on the menu.)
Next to Miracle Mile Shops and a Walgreen.

Let's see, where shall I start?

The parking is a mystery, and you end up like I did at the back of the Miracle Mile shopping area. That's a really lengthy distance when you are wheeling your luggage. When I finally got up to the PH Casino, I asked a waitress where the check-in lobby was. She was testy, possibly thinking another guy (with luggage?) was hitting on her. Anyway, I discovered the check-in desk was in the lower level...or the basement, as I would refer to it. Long line at 5 pm, and only a handful of staff there to help.

Discovered that you SHOULD NOT park at the back; there's free valet parking twenty feet away from the check-in desk, but they forget to mention that fact to you ahead of time. Enter the labyrinth from Harmon Avenue, to the left of the hotel.

The Hollywood strip room was very disappointing. Tiny, dark room. A bed and a bathroom and that's about it. The bureau was scratch-covered/pieces missing on the outside, and the inside looked like a dark cabinet for an illusion for David Copperfield. There was only one window...and if you stretch out both your arms to the side, you will get the width of the window, and it is mostly covered by an antiquated pull-down screen. More room was given over to the memorabilia from Judge Dredd. More than once, I felt I was in a NY hotel. I had upgraded form a regular room to this for $10, but the regular price for the upgrade is $30. Not worth either price.

I had looked forward for a few years now to stay at the PH. Would I stay here again? No.

 

Bluskies, don't give up on it. We stayed there for NYE last year in a Hollywood Hip (supposed) strip view in the South tower and hated it for the same issues you mention except the parking, but loved the casino. We usually stay at Caesars and went back there for our April trip but thought we'd give it another try for our August trip. Our confirmation said Hollywood Hip strip view again but this time it was in the North tower and we loved it! This was by far the best view we've ever had in over 20 trips to Vegas and the room seemed bigger and brighter than the one in December. We are going back to Caesars for November but mostly because that's where our Host is but we would definitely go back to Planet Hollywood again.

Gdicke, I would ask for the North tower for sure.

 

Haha...I think I had the Judge Dredd room! Some rooms are little dungeon-like places, while others are light and cheerful. I'm not sure how they dole them out. Just avoid the room for handicapped.

 

How's the buffet these days at Pho? Last time I went to the buffet was about 4 years ago and it was horrible. Any changes since then?

 

We ate there twice for breakfast last month and it was pretty good both times. My wife loves their made to order omelets. In June I was out there for work and got the 24 hour pass which is the first time I had eaten anything other than breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised how good the dinner was. The prime rib was wonderful. The only negative is they are still on the cupcake kick for dessert with the exception of a few different choices.

I don't think the ceilings are lower than any other hotel room. I think the problem is the person who took the pics is very tall and shooting the pic downwards.

 

I second the Paris Buffet. It's a short walk across the signal light for the Paris driveway entrance.

 

I ate there a couple times (Planet Hollywood buffet) on a buffet pass. Lunch was OK (about the quality of the Boulder Station buffet and I'm sure MUCH more expensive if one were paying cash for it); dinner not so much. There was virtually nothing at the dinner buffet other than prime rib that I really wanted; and the prime rib was about a 5 out of 10...Paris buffet was quite a bit better and had a much better dessert selection (including the freshly made crepes).
