Table Games Craps table minimum question

I haven't played craps in years and I'm going to Las Vegas this coming weekend with some friends that only shoot dice.

My question is at a $15 min. Table do all the bets have to be at least $15 each or is that a minimum of you total bets? Like could I bet $10 on the line and $5 on something else?

One of those things I've just never bothered to ask.

 

Each bet needs to be $15 (exclusive of interior bets like hardways, bonuses, etc.). So you'd have to bet at least $15 on the line, $18 on the 6/8, etc.

 

Each major bet has to be $15, but some prop bets can be for smaller amounts. To bet pass line, max odds and lay a couple of numbers, you will need at least $100 on the table. Can get pricey real quick.

 

100%. 3 PSO in a row is a crusher. I usually would play a passline with max odds and inside, plus some hardways. I hate to change the way I play. 3 PSO in a row would be a quick $500.

 

Yeah at a $15 or $25 table the PSO's will murder your bankroll. The bright side is that when someone does get hot those racks will fill up with a quickness

 

I never got the why the casinos set up $15 min tables for craps. It's a good way to turn people off who would buy in for a session at a $10. Before I had a bigger bankroll, I never touched anything but $5 or $10 tables because of my playing style and bet exposure. I get the $25+ tables, weeding out the ********* and everything, but I've been in places like Aria and MGM where there are 4 tables open, one will be a $10 table which is packed all the way around and has people waiting for a spot, one $25+ with a few guys/gals scattered around and 2 completly empty $15s where the dealers are twidling their thumbs.

That being said, I've had good luck when I've stepped up and played $15 and $25 tables. Once at Atlantis in the Bahamas, bought in for $100 hoping for a point or two and then I would be on my way and it turned into a $800 cash out after one shooter. Usually at the end of my Vegas trips, I'll step up to green chip play on the craps felt and it often works out in my favor.

 

I don't much get their rationale, either. But then again, I consider myself among the "*********."

And just because they have high table limits doesn't necessarilly mean that they're financial geniuses, either.

I know that I'm dating myself and that things have changed and that things are soooooo much better now and that I'm just being overly nostalgic, etc., etc., etc, but I remember when Benny Binion would take bets from $.50-cents up to $10,000.00 on the same table. And he'd have eight of them jamb-up 24 hours a day. And not only that, but he had the most profitable casino per square foot in Las Vegas!

Old-timers know that I'm not making this up. I was personally at a table in the early 80's where I was betting $5.00 pass line w/ odds, two players next to me were betting $.50-cents on the pass line w/ odds plus $4.00 across and T.J. Cloutier was betting $10,000.00 on the pass line w/ odds. And nobody batted an eye.

The old school operators couldn't stand the thought that you'd walk past their table with a quarter in your pockets and not have a shot at it. But then again, they didn't have a bunch of kids standing in line to pay $600.00 for a bottle of vodka, either.

 

As others have mentioned, on a $15 minimum table you need to bet at least $15 except for the bets in the middle (hard ways, c/e, horn bets, etc.). Your pass, come, place and odds bets have to be $15 minimum.

Many of the tables (strip tables especially) have $15 minimums for the same reasons why they don't have $5 tables. Because they can! We all see the same thing, $15 and higher tables empty or practically empty while the $5 (if you can find them on the strip) and $10 tables are completely filled. I can see the $15 minimum during the evenings when it gets busy and when there are conventions or events but during the day many of the tables are empty. Guess the casinos only want $15 and higher players and don't care to cater to the $5 and $10 players.

I did play on $15 minimum tables a few times, most times I lost. After that I usually shun the $15 tables and stick with downtown's $5 minimums. Since I visit the strip during the daytime I usually only play on $5 tables (I don't play on the strip as much, lol).

 

Each pass line/don't pass/place bet has to be $15. A place bet on the 6 & 8 have to be $18. Your odds on the back end is your choice, can be any amount or nothing. The prop bets like World Bets or Hop bets can be $1 at any table. I hope this helps.

 

Sorry but I don't see things better now, esp with gambling. Now we have 6/5 bj, higher minimum tables, bad vp tables and harder to get comps. With everything computerized it is harder to get comps since they know "exactly" how much your coin in and table play is. At least at MSS you can play 20x odds but most crap tables on the strip are only 3-4-5 odds at best.

 

Really, so if you make a $15 pass line bet you can make a $5 odds bet? Not sure why people would do that but I guess I always thought that the odds bet would be the same minimum as the minimum bet requirement.

 

At MSS I was playing a $5 table, tried to make a $4 odds bet, the stickman said I needed to up the odds bet to $5, $6 for a proper payout.

 

From my experience, if you're down to your last chips in the rack, they'll let you bet with what you have even it goes below table min.

 

You will be encouraged to place the 6 and 8 for $18 so you get proper odds/payouts but you certainly don't have to play them for more than the minimum of $15. I've certainly seen people at almost every casino I've played at place the 6 and 8 for the table minimum rather than the multiple of 6. The casino doesn't care if you are shorting yourself on the payout. Same goes for the odds question, however they aren't going to pay you $5 on your $4 odds bet and short themselves.

 

I understand the $10-15-25 table minimums. I even understand the occasional $50-100 ones if there are players to warrant it

What I don't get is if they do have $50-100 ones open and no one is playing them but there are lines to play at the other lower limit tables why they don't back those 50-100's down?

During SB weekend at V/P the Saturday night before the game they had numerous empty 50-100 tables while the action was strong with people waiting on the 15-25's.

 

I would suspect it would depend on the point.
If it was 4, 5, 9 or 10 then $4 should have been fine, but makes sense if point is 6 or 8 because even if you win, you would not get full payment.

After posting I am not sure I read the post correctly as I read it as you needed to up the bet to $5 to win $6.

I have seen people place less than table minimum odds behind...as long as the 5/9 are evened up you'll be fine.

It shocks me that some don't play odds at all.

 

I've seen guys put $25 on the pass line, a 6 will come out and they won't put odds behind it, instead, they put $50 on a hard 6... Wtf?!

 

I agree with some of the comments on the empty $15 and $25 tables, while people are crowded around the one $10 table, waiting to get a spot. This is really an issue at Strip casinos on the weekend. When I was working, I would just get tired of waiting and play at the higher limits. Now that I are retired, I stick to $10 tables, and accept the fact that most of my play will be during the day. I'm not going to let them force me to play higher limits anymore.

 

I'm not close to retirement but like you I have mostly accepted that my craps play will be during the day and switch to VP at night if I'm on the strip. I can afford the $15 table but I like to spread my action around if possible.
