Rio

Never been to the rio but we are going down in October and plan to visit. Was wondering what other casinos are nearby.

 

Gold Coast is nearby, not a bad walk I believe. Palms is just a bit further, but still relatively close. I was at Rio in June and really enjoyed it. If I ever stay off-strip, it'll be there.

 

You can use their free shuttle to go back and forth to the strip. Drops at Bally's which is right in the heart of it all. Don't try to walk it, longer than it looks!

If you book a room there give me a shout a week or so before you go. A buddy of mine is the hotel manager there. If it's not too busy I'm sure he can whip you up an upgrade.

 

The Gold Coast is just across the street from the Rio (have to cross Valley View Dr). The Palms is just down from the Gold Coast and on the other side of Flamingo Ave(easy ten minute walk). The CET shuttles run from the Rio to Ballys and Harrahs and back about every 25 minutes starting at 10 AM with the last run at 1AM. The shuttle service is free, but tip the driver a buck. As stated previously, the Strip looks fairly close, but don't try and walk to it. You would have to cross some dangerous streets(ramps for the interstate)...far too many pedestrian accidents in Vegas already. The Gold Coast also has a free shuttle that will take you to the Orleans casino.

Don't forget to check out the Rio Zip Line.

 

I'm a big fan of the Rio. But be extra careful when walking to Gold Coast or Palms. Wide road crossings and very fast (even when sober) drivers.

Martorano's upscale Italian resto upstairs, the Wine Cellar beneath the casino, and American Bar & Grill for steaks, salads and sandwiches.

 

Rio veteran here. We love this place. Great rooms and places to eat and love the VP bar. Easy walk to Gold Coast and Palms and fast shuttle ride to mid strip. Also going late Oct and early Nov. Yea!!!

 

As everyone else has said - Gold Coast and Palms are nearby. We stayed at Rio last year and it was a quick walk to both. And super easy access to the Strip using the shuttle. We're actually booked again for this October.

 

Its looking like we will be staying at RIO this trip in October. We have only stayed at Harrahs. I was looking at their website and the Samba suite looks great.

 

Can you tell me which room number that was please. i am staying there for the first time for 3 nights from 1st september

 

Does that offer apply to a fellow UK visitor.

we are staying at Rio for 3 nights from 1st sep booked a comped standard king room. have no idea really what to ask for as never stayed there before

I like the dining options at the Rio and the property as a whole.... Better gambling options at the other 2 houses and elsewhere.

 

It looks like the Rio will be the place to be this fall. I'll be there for 3 nights in October too. I have a Samba strip view room. Hopefully the OP won't mind if I piggyback a question in here.

Is there a tower this room type (Samba strip view) is likely to be in. If it's available in both towers - then which tower is the best. I mostly care about quiet. I don't take naps during the day, but am usually in my room my 10:00 p.m. and I like quiet when I sleep. Given that I'm there for a conference it looks like the Ipanema elevators would be most convenient for that.

 

Ipanema tower is closer to everything except the restaurants in the masquerade tower.
The Rio was my LV home for several years until the CET downgrades.
I still like the place and know many people that work there.

 

Samba rooms are in both towers. The Ipanema Tower elevators are definitely closer to the function areas.

As for quiet, Ipanema has 3 wings, One side of two of the wings face the pool, you don't want to be on that side during the day, although I've never been there in October - in the summer when I was on the pool side of the Masquerade Tower it was noisy with the oontz oontz and I was pretty high up. Masquerade Tower, one side faces the pool and one doesn't.

For night time, you know the drill - get a room as far down the hall as you can.

If you go to Google Maps and turn on the Earth view you can see the layout - Ipanema is the Y shaped building on the left and Masquerade is the curved building to its lower right, throwing a shadow.
