Could you see some drunk getting sick in one, on a nice hot day, and you know it may be a half hour before you can get out of it?

Ferris wheel and observation wheel are used synonymously. Chicago and London have the same style of gondola ride and both are classified as ferris wheels even though the main function is observation. :confused2:

I'm looking forward to it, I think it will become a "must do" attraction.

Then they are classified wrong. A ferris wheel is a ride and goes a lot faster then an observation wheel imo of course.

A solid reason why I probably will not go on one. I am scared of heights and I may end up being "that guy" :vomit:

I was just at Bally's overlooking the pods. I actually mentioned this to one of the construction workers. He mentioned that the pods will be inserted with state of the art barf bags.

    When will it open?

Anyone know when the highroller will be opened and how much it costs?

The wheel itself will be finished this Winter. But, it will not be ready to take passengers because the ramps, loading and processing facilities may not be done for several months.

Having said the above, I think CET is sandbagging on this one. I've never seen a Strip project come in early - but this one seems to be doing just that. I think CET is holding back on releasing an earlier timeline because they don't want to unduly raise expectations. If work on the support facilities for the wheel catch up, we may see the wheel fully operational Spring '14.

You could be right, but my guess is they want the entertainment and retail district to be totally complete before they open the High Roller.

Does anyone have idea how the "pedestrian mall" is coming along?

They have infact released sereral timelines. The one I posted is the latest as far as I know. I'm sure if it happens to be ready by July 4th then they will make that their opening date or maybe Labor day in Sept..

Yes, I am aware of that. My point was that the timelines may be purposefully conservative so as not to cause undue expectations. Typically, Strip projects get unrealistically short timelines. This time, we may very well be seeing the opposite occur.

As we have seen in the past, just because CET execs say something is real does not make it so. Regardless, it will soon be obvious what's really going on. Frankly, I'm excited about this project whether it meets the official timelines or not.

I remember reading a few months back that they have to do extensive testing on this once complete before it can open for public rides (the monorail had to do the same thing and faced several additional delays as wheels fell off among other deficiencies). The testing alone was supposed to take about 3 months so even if it was complete by the end of the year, you'd still be looking at an opening in April at the earliest.

Here are some pics i took at Bally's from last week, it shows Sun-Fri and the progress on the High Roller. In two months the Wheel will be done, however, as others have said, the surrounding area will need to be finished but the timeline will be completed by May 11th when i return to Vegas:

Once the initial hype dies down and they're not at capacity (I still don't believe those pods can carry 40 each anyway), I wonder if it'd be possible to "$20 Trick" your way to your own pod.

With a ride time of 30 minutes and 28 pods, a pod will be available for boarding every 65 seconds. Seems pretty easy to slip $20 to the attendant to let your party onto the pod and make anyone who comes behind you wait an extra minute to board.

Having your own pod means you could maybe join the 500 foot club :ssst:

Assuming you are with someone and not alone. That would be gross :)

This is exactly what I think will be happening in the pods - sex and barfing (hopefully not at the same time).

You know that at some point, they'll offer a VIP entry, probably for an extra $40 bucks or so, so people can propose and do special things like that.
