Just wondering how far they got in building this and when do you think it be open
There are two planned big wheels on The Strip.
One (Linq High Roller) is expected to open late Spring, early Summer 2014
The other (Sky Vue) is stalled indefinitely. The developer is broke and I think it's dead.
Is the second on you mentioned being built across the street from Mandalay Bay?
Theres a live webcam on there showing the wheel. Looks about 1/4-1/2 the way done.
Phin- you gonna update your avatar with the new Dolphins logo? I kinda like their new unis and helmets. Look sharp
Might be open for our trip next May :evillaugh
Thanks for the reminder. I found a nice pair of shorts with the new logo in Vegas this week, I'm wearing them now I love them. I tweeted last night, that the white uniforms the Dolphins were wearing, look sharp. Nice word usage!
just saw the wheel at the linq and its has a half a circle built now, pretty cool
Yup. You can really see how it's going to change the skyline of the Strip.
This is part of the article from the NBC website that has been posted in the Linq progress thread today.
"A rival company is building SkyVue, a 500-foot observation wheel across from Mandalay Bay at the southern end of the Strip that will feature video screens broadcasting ads. That project is expected to open in mid-2015, according to developer David Gaffin."
They must of found some funding from somewhere
Here's another article with more info
I did see that the wheel know complete and that it should open in December I do not know how true that is
It's far from being complete. They haven't installed the wires inside of the wheel, remove the blue supports, or install the pods for people to ride in.
It's not going to open until the first half of 2014.
...and all the lights have to be installed
The project is actually a little ahead of schedule. Rumor is that it could be open late November, but for safety and testing middle of December. I think they are really trying to be operational before NYE14.
Last time in Vegas is what I heard, Dec.
A side note from a friend that recently returned and was staying at Harrahs. He said it was a real PITA to drive or cab it in there now. Only access in to the back of Harrahs for check in, valet or parking is via the underground tunnel coming in from the Strip.
While you can get to Koval leaving Harrahs, you can't come in off of Koval right now...just over to the Quad.
Just got back today and was told they are now shooting for early to mid summer.
So, maybe, NYE 2015. Amazing how the only certainty is that these projects WILL be delayed.
Even though Slotzilla is done on Fremont - I anticipate the ETA of that monstrosity to be ready for customers in April of 2014
