    My Trip Report

Who: Myself, my Hubby and his BFF. We are all 46. We had never traveled with his friend before. He’s single and likes to drink his 18 pack of Bud Lights at our house on a semi-regular basis. I got the amazing idea that I needed a quick trip to Vegas for my Christmas present, figured I’d better invite the Hubby and also his friend to keep him busy while I gambled. Hubby gambles a bit, but tends to cash out if he wins anything, then hover over my shoulder. Not my favorite trait of his, so I figured him and the friend can hang out and wander around and stay out of my peripheral view!

Friday: We arrived in Vegas on The Goddamn Coldest Weekend of the year! Arrived Dec 26 to 40 degrees. It was warmer in Seattle when we left there. Big change from our last trip in July. I had a comped 3 nights at Harrahs and double booked comped room at Mirage. Checked the friend in at Harrahs and we all walked over to get our room at the Mirage. I’d never stayed here before, just attended Love and gambled here in the past. I have stayed at Excalibur, so I guess that is why they threw me the comped rooms. I ended up really liking the Mirage, except for the food options. They are all pretty spendy. We’re not foodies, just need sustenance between drinking sessions.

We sat at the Lobby Bar for a while waiting for my room to be ready and I hit a 4 Aces within 15 minutes. Yay! Up 200 already. We all hit the strip together and commenced to drink. Had fun at Casino Royale for a while, then spent quite a bit of time at Margaritaville and Flamingo. While sitting at Floyds Bar in Flamingo, our friend spots a nice looking lady who is very drunk and dropping her chips in front of a black jack table. She’s kind of tipsy on her heels and looks like she could go down at any moment. I feel kind of bad for her and no one seems to be looking out for her. I go over and help her out, then steer her over to the bar to get her out of the aisle. We all end up chatting then heading over to Caesars to party in the bar there. She and our friend end up hitting it off quite nicely. My hubby and I call it a night around 1am and the lovebirds are still going strong. We left them there and headed to BLT for a late night burger, pretty good but 40 bucks for 2 burgers and fries was a bit ridiculous. In bed by 2am.

Saturday: Up around 8 and showered and out the door for coffee and egg mcmuffins across the street. We hadn’t heard from our friend yet so we decide to walk over to Bellagio and see the conservatory. Still all Christmas-y! Wandered the Bellagio nursing our Bailys and coffees. I won 250 on some random dragon slot so that was cool. Texted our friend around 1 and he says he still needs to sleep awhile! Must have been some night for him! I told him we wanted to go to Fremont around 4 so he said he’d meet us near the big money wheel at Harrahs at 4. We took a little nap in our room then headed to round him up. We didn’t ask, and he didn’t tell.

Took a cab down to Fremont and commenced to wander, drink and gawk at the performers. Friend hadn’t eaten much, so we took him to DuPars for shrimp cocktails..he was impressed! Hung out at the Golden Gate for a while watching the dancing dealers. I gambled around a bit, won 175 on an Avatar Bonus round. Fun!! Went over to Mermaids and plunked at some slots. The boys decided since they didn’t want to gamble much, their dollars would go further if they just bought plastic footballs full of booze. Well ok then! Took their picture with the Double D Pirate Wench. We stumbled down to Insert Coins and played some Galaga and other vintage games from our collective youth.

Friend gets the idea that we must do the zipline. I’ve always wanted to do it, but the timing was never really right. Tonight was freezing cold, about 38 degrees now, but we’re dressed pretty warmly so what the fuck. We work our way up and decide if we’re gonna do this, we are doing the upper zoom line. I am finally all strapped in, superman-style, when I look to my right at my husband and realize that plastic football full of Brandy and 7 has hit him between the eyes and he’s barely holding it together. He tells me he wants to get off now. I’m like, uh, no, just make it to the other side without puking and you’ll be fine!! I look to my left at his friend and he’s pretty much in the same boat. I’m cracking up between these two wasted fools and just praying the attendants don’t realize how blotto they are. Finally we’re off! Super fun, great view, and no one blew chow! I get stalled just before the platform and a guy has to rappel out to pull me in. The hubs and his BFF are already stumbling down the stairs so I catch up to them and steer them over to the Plaza to call a cab. We make it back to our respective hotels at around 2am.

Sunday: I’m cursed with early riser disease, even when I’m out late. I finally give up on sleeping in around 9am. Hubs is still dead to the world so I shower and make my way downstairs for some coffee and video poker for an hour. Got 4 kings! Go back up to the room, hubs is awake but not doing too well so I go get him some food and coffee. It’s close to noon before he’s up and around, so I spend some time in the casino again playing various slots. Had fun on a “Money Tree” slot that randomly drops wilds into the screen, so was up around 300 bucks from the earlier 4OAK and this slot.

Hubs finally makes it downstairs and has a couple Bailey’s and coffees to get him going. We watch some NFL at the Sports Bar for awhile, then text our friend to see if he wants to go with us to the Riviera to watch the afternoon game. Hubs is from the Midwest originally, so he’s a Packers fan. Friend and I are of course Seahawks fans. I’ve wanted to go to the Riviera for a while, just because it’s so old and sleazy and who knows how long it will be there. Boys don’t care, they want football and cheap drinks.

Cab it out to the Riv and eat lunch at Wicked Vickys. Pretty good honey habanero wings here! The Riv is an interesting mix of people. We set ourselves up at the Sports Book near the front doors…ah, Nirvana for the boys, all the games on many big screens. Cocktail waitresses don’t seem to frequent here much, so they end up going in to the ABC store inside the Riv and loading up on giant Mike’s Hard Lemonades. It is great people watching there in the sports book. Pretty serious characters who apparently have bet on various games and screaming like maniacs. Also many people watching horse races with big lists and a few with kids. WTF? We spend the afternoon there, drinking cheaply from the ABC store and enjoying watching the games and the people. I play a few slots here and there, nothing memorable. Games are over, both teams won, so everyone is in a good mood. Back to the Mirage to charge our phones and freshen up. It’s our last night in Vegas so I pry the Hubs off the bed and off we go to hike over to Ellis Island.

We had been to Ellis on our last trip here in July. We were staying at Ballys last time, so the walk wasn’t much, plus it was 90 degrees then. I liked the small casino vibe there. This time, staying at Mirage and it is about 35 with wind...it was a cold jaunt over there. We do make it and park our freezing butts at the bar. Dollar IPA’s! Boys are ecstatic. They wonder why we went anywhere else on this trip! They could live at Ellis Island! Do they have a hotel?! I tell our friend he can stay there next time.

Our bartender is super attentive and funny. I have to warn Hubs and Friend about a few working gals sitting at the bar, as they don’t get out much. I play a few slots, including Walking Dead. I hit the bonus round, and it went on tilt for extra spins, extra wilds and all kinds of exciting noises and graphics. When it was over I had won 500 bucks in that bonus round. And forgot to take a pic. Ug. The older gentleman next to me was watching and kept saying to me “Are You Serious! Are. You. Serious! ” I smiled big and cashed out and went back to the boys at the bar. Showed hubs the ticket and said Prime Rib is on me! We drank a bit more, I got a few bonus rounds on Sex and the City while we waited for our reservation beeper to go off. Had a great meal, Prime Rib was rare and delicious. All three entrees plus a beer each and the tab was 49 bucks. We now all love Ellis Island even more! We decided it was too freaking cold to walk back after our big meal and many beers, so we cab back to Mirage.

Friend walks back to his room at Harrah’s and we call it a night. Our flight is at 10am so we meet up at 8 and cab to Airport. Goodbye Vegas, for a little while! Had a lot of fun this trip, actually accomplished a few things I wanted to do and came home with a few hundy. Winner!

Nice TR! One of the main reasons we stay at Ballys is so we can walk to Ellis Island. We are there almost daily! My GF let me take a friend on our last couple trips, haha, similar experiences!

Every trip I plan on checking out Ellis Island - and every trip I wind up sitting in the casino I booked my trip in for far too many hours in a row. I vow that this coming trip I will go to Ellis Island and get Hep C from the bar tops while consuming an IPA! :)

    Nice TR! Thanks for sharing..

We have stayed downtown a few times at GN..they never send me any decent offers. I do have some offers from Boyd properties, but since we didn't gamble much with them on this trip, they'll probably go away. This trip was kind of last minute, and free rooms are free rooms! Must have been the dates we chose, as I was surprised to have comped nights on a weekend. We're not high rollers, but spend enough at TR properties for some free nights a year.

Awesome report! Couldn't stop laughing at the thought of two guys blowing chunks on the zipline, thankfully they held it down!

Fun report, Thx! This year for March Madness my buddies and I just said fuck it, booked suites and rooms at the Super 8. We always end up at Ellis anyway, might as well start and end our days there.

Great idea bringing hubby's friend. I hate having someone hover over my shoulder when I'm playing. Glad the men held it together on the zipline; that could have been nasty! Kind of surprised there are working girls at Ellis Island; I wouldn't expect the clientele there would have that kind of "entertainment fund" or perhaps the ladies are "low rent"? Sounds like you all had a blast and I enjoyed your TR.
