We spent last weekend in Vegas and both myself and DH came home winners. We split up and each spent the weekend at separate hotels with our best friends. On the way home it seemed each one us couldn’t wait to tell the other how much fun we each had even though we did things like Top Golf, absinthe and Carnival bar...things we have both done before. I think the extra cash in our pockets added the extra layer of fun

Absolutely! I also get jazzed about booking the next trip shortly after returning home.

Haha...probably should have said, do you think your non gambling activities seem more fun when you’re up money?

Im usually suicidal on the flight home, my wife seems to win about 1 out of 3-4 trips and feels the need to tell me all the things I can do to be a winner like her. All jokes aside a winning trip is especially sweet.

I've always had fun on my Vegas trips. And I'm just the average guy who loses more often than win.

And there are many reasons it can still be fun despite you coming home with less bankroll.

If you look at gambling strictly as a way to make money, you won't have fun. (think professional gambler)

If you used money that was supposed to be for rent, bills, food or savings, it won't be fun.

If you went with less bankroll than you're used to, chances are you won't have fun. Best to wait until the bankroll is where you'd want it to be.

But if you look at gambling as part of your vacation fun, it will be fun! Especially if you seek out likewise players playing at dealer friendly tables or machines.

And your bankroll is vacation fun money. Not something you're supposed to use for something else.

But yeah, I agree that coming home a winner is more fun than just plain fun. If that makes sense, lol!!!

Not at all. I enjoy the thrill of spending/gambling beyond my means and on the flight home start thinking of all the dirty, inconceivable things I will do to make money so that my family doesn’t leave me.

Short answer yes, however I never bet more than I can *afford to lose* and don't tie my enjoyment while in LV to the gambling I do.

But like others have said, I don't tie my feelings about my Vegas trips to my gaming. I bring what I can afford to lose and get the most enjoyment out of my gaming time that I can. That said, I do feel a little more spring in my step at checkout when I still have a nice fat bankroll wad on the way out of town. :) I enjoy bringing home the majority of what I budget for gaming, even better if I can bring home a little extra.

I’ll almost always come home with a win/loss for the trip that won’t impact my life, in any significant manner, one way or the other. For me, the best part of a winning trip is knowing I have my BR for my next trip locked in and ready to go. It also makes the plane ride home and planning my next trip that much more enjoyable.

My last trip in December I had a small loss for the ten days I was there but it was the most enjoyable trip I’ve had in decades. Conversely, there have been trips where I won a decent amount of money but didn’t really enjoy myself a whole lot because I had two or three really big winning sessions while the rest of my stay consisted of nothing but miserable losses. For me I guess it all comes down to circumstances, but yeah, winning trips are for the most part better than losing ones - but not always.

Great thread OP. This kind of reminds me of some threads that pop up from time to time about would you rather win big earlier in your trip or late. (Since this thread is about having a winning trip I thought I’d reference this topic.) The responses vary and are really interesting and insightful. I’d much rather have a huge win at the beginning of a trip. That way I can just go to the bank and send a cashiers check back to my house so I’m not tempted to dip into my big score. By doing this I can just play on my original BR and I’m more likely to put my trip on cruise control and treat myself to better meals, shows and get some better shopping in. On the flip side losing all trip and then having redemption at the end, while being satisfying, would still mean I had to endure a week of depressing losses. Winning is winning, I’d just like to enjoy the win for the majority of my trip.

So I've had many fun Vegas trips in which I lost considerably (upwards of $3k). The point is not about losing, but it's about feeling like a winner as you lose. I find that great dealers and slots that pay out once in a while make the trip fun. Nothing worse than feeding a machine and feeling like a loser on every number you pick when playing Roulette. As an example (and because this happens every dang time, when I stay at Harrah's in Atlantic City, I go in knowing that I'll lose 1k a night on average but I don't mind it when playing VP at the bar for HOURS and keeping myself entertained (and drunk) in the process.

Not really. I’ve come home up twice, even three times, and lost the other two.

I lost on my recent trip. I’m actually glad I did. I had a great trip, but with the previous trip being such a winner (won the equivalent of almost half my bankroll), winning again could have made it feel like I should win every time and that’s not realistic.

Encore - May 28th - 31st - Other than one day we just couldn't catch a break on this trip.
So Yeah... It's always fun to win and more importantly to bring home either said Winnings or a portion of your original Bankroll.

Is it more fun going to a bar when you get a cute girls number?

I'll let you know when it happens....coming home a winner! :)

In all seriousness, I had a 12 day b-day trip with 3 handpays. I was still in the red, but by less than $100 a day, with fully comped rooms, no RF and minimal food charges over RC.

THAT was a very nice feeling, so I know I'd love coming home a winner. I take longer trips though, so it's harder ;)

I’m going to say it’s probably a great feeling to go home up in the cash department when leaving Vegas. After having just completed my second trip, I don’t have enough firsthand knowledge to offer any insight there.

Even though I didn’t come back with extra cash, there is something to be said for all the other “wins” from the trip. My wife and I have some great memories to share, the comps (which actually made our trip net positive from a strictly cash perspective), the great people we met during the trip, and also the enjoyment from trip planning. It may not be the exact answer you’re looking for but I like to weigh every aspect of a trip rather than just money. Don’t get me wrong though, I’d love to come back home with more!

Yes, even when you stretch a winning trip to include coming back with ANY of your bankroll. I commit to a bankroll and in my mind I consider that money gone. So if I come back with $200 left, hey that’s money I didn’t expect to have. However the one trip last November I came back with more than I started with was pretty swell. Was only $90 up or so thanks to my first and only handpay 6 hours before the flight home. I feel like I always leave Vegas on a high, but this one was definitely a tad sweeter than usual.
