Belk, which wrote the check for a bowl game, provided, along with other swag and perks that come with making a bowl game, each player with a $450 gift card to be used at ... Belk. According to reports, that was not adequate for one player who decided to shoplift, perhaps because the $450 of free shit wasn't enough for him.

saw that story yesterday... took me 20 minutes to figure out that Belk was some kind of department store LOL never heard of it before

I heard about this on the radio this morning.
Not a great way to represent one's school, team, family, or...self!

It's amazing how folks that are given so much in life manage to eff things up so easily!

If I was in that position, the first thing I'd buy with my gift card would be a thank-you card to Belk for giving me the gift card in the first place.
Then, things for my folks and siblings for their sacrifices/support to get me to that level of sports.

RICHARD

I saw that and at first I wasn't sure if the team banned him or if Belk themselves banned him from their game. You know like how sometimes a store will ban you from their store... I thought maybe he got banned from all Belk stores and they expanded that to their bowl game. LOL.

You gotta wonder about that stuff. I mean...they're showing you around the store as part of the bowl promo. If I was a gamblin' man, I'd bet that this was not his first attempt at boosting merchandise. Last time I was in Belks...$450 could go a long way, but I don't think it's a popular destination for the <21 crowd.

Either that kid was never taught thou shalt not steal or his sense of entitlement knows no bounds. Sad.

He should have saved himself and team the embarrassment by simply having a booster taking him to lunch pre-bowl trip. Oops. Ineligible.

Doesn't excuse the behavior but what a contradiction of rules.

Ken 2 v you are so right. Don't know if he was NFL draft potential.. but if so THAT might have taken a hit as well....To the above poster who never heard of Belks...they might be a regional chain. ( looking to go nationwide maybe???--not in Ct where I live)..

Belk is a department store chain seen mostly on the south. Can't believe this guy was so stupid!!!

I didn't hear this story but I was watching the Belk Bowl game.
I didn't know what Belk was either ?
Yes....I wonder how $450 gift was determined ?
Did the school make millions from TV exposure + future admissions revenue ?
..........and the kid steals.

Never heard of Belk either, this episode reminds me of the old saying "you can take the boy/girl out of the ghetto, but you cant take the ghetto out of the boy".

I love Belk. One of my favorite clothing stores. Not cheap prices but they always have a sale and coupons. Don't ever buy at the price on the clothes. It's about like a Kohl's or Macy's if you have one in your area. The Belk's here carry products that fit the neighborhood. If you want the higher better stuff like Michael Kors or Kate Spade, go to the one in the better neighborhood. Here in Dallas, that one is at the Galleria.
