First trip was in 1993 and first 5 hotels I stayed at are all gone:
    Vegas World
    Sahara
    Riviera
    Aladdin
    San Remo (now Hooters)

I think I enjoyed myself more back then when I wasn't worried about playing for comps and getting free rooms.

1973 my buddy and I drove non-stop from Milwaukee to Vegas. iirc about 32 hours. He made the arrangements and we stayed at the Tam O'shanter motel on the Strip. I think that is where Plazio is now?

I lost 3/4 of my entire gambling budget playing craps at the Stardust and ate at McDonalds on the first night, not knowing buffets were so cheap. All of this before the fancy themed resorts were built.

I'm happy to say I was in every Strip casino before they were imploded. Not all on my first trip, but over the years.

Every time I go to LV I go looking for my very first trip.

    I've never found it.

But I've had a great time looking for it! :)

My first trip was in the Fall 2000 and I stayed at the Monte Carlo ...ahhh, the good old days! Needless to say, after the conversion to the Park MGM, it's just not the same anymore. I also use to stay at a few others that are no longer around or have been rebranded ...the Sahara, San Remo. My biggest regret is not staying at the Stardust when I had the opportunity and now it's gone forever.

1992, college friend who lived in SF invited me and one other guy from the East Coast to embark on a roughly week-long driving tour to start south down the coast and the plan was to ultimately circle back up to Yosemite. I suggested it would be pretty cool if we could hit Vegas for a night as a part of the trip. I had gone to AC several times, had gone to Reno the year before, had read a few Vegas books, and wanted to see what it was like. Remember driving in on I-15 from Cali and seeing the lights in the distance at Stateline and wondering "What in the heck is that??" Then making it to LV, driving the Strip, and I was just floored by the neon lights. We wound up staying at some non-casino off-Strip property, and remember my buddies and I went to Mirage and the Forum Shops. They turned in pretty early, but I stayed out and walked the entire Strip northbound, including past Vegas World, just mesmerized, before I decided to head back. The next day I think we drove east toward the Grand Canyon, and got back to the Vegas area and decided to see a show. After the show, said "well, its kind of too late to go anywhere," so we wound up down at Fitzgerald's. Again, this was pre-FSE, and the downtown neon contrasted against the night sky...….spectacular.

I made my way back to Vegas the next two years, but only for one night in '93 and then just for a couple nights at the front end to a cruise vacation in '94, so didn't really feel like those were enjoyable trips. I don't think it was until the spring of '95, when I went out there for a few beautiful spring days and remember walking past the water frontage of the Mirage, that I truly fell in love with Vegas. Went back five months later and its been a great relationship since!

Agreed! I kept saying I was going to stay there, but there were so many shiny new hotels opening at the time, I was always trying to stay at new places (sometimes 3 in one trip) to get photos for the old website. And then the opportunity to stay there was gone. :(

The Riviera, May 1995. Loved it and fell in love with Las Vegas. I really loved that area around the Riv with CC, Slots, the Ho and the Stardust. That was magical for me. Have not had the feeling since. Damn I miss it.

Early '80's, maybe? I stayed at The Boardwalk Hotel which was part of the Holiday Inn, Corp. I think Cosmopolitan is there now. I knew nothing of gambling and was drunk the entire time...probably because the drinking age in PA at the time was 21 and here I was on one of my first vacations, with 3 friends and alcohol was legal for us. Don't recall gambling. Just a blur of drunkenness.

What a wonderful trip! CC security knew you were underage and if you hit a jackpot wouldn't have to pay, however they were cool to let you have a run at the house. What a great bonding experience the trip was

MGM Grand In 2010. Having just finished college weeks beforehand, my budget was so friggin small. No idea what the hell I was doing, I walked up to a bar in MGM and ordered a Bud Light for my buddy and I. When the bartender came back with our drinks and told me it’d be ~$24 (memory is hazy) I sheepishly almost wanted to ask if I could return them. That was a decent chunk of my daily bankroll back then! Spent most of the trip walking across the pedestrian bridge to play $5 blackjack at the Trop. Great time

Hmm...summer of ‘95. I would have been roughly six months shy of my 21st at that time. :hmmm: My considerable math acumen (carry the four...) leads me to believe someone might have fibbed about her age at some point! :nono:

Now, now my litle mathlete with your fancy schmancy avatar....you should know how important a) characters are in an equation, and b) that what is MISSING in a word problem, is as important as what is included!

    A) notice the (?) next to the year 1995...I'm pretty sure it's 95' based on my math, but in my old age...I could caluculate wrong, ergo why I had the (?) on there.

    B) I never said summer ;) (but it was close, I'm a late April baby, so it had to have been April)

To make our epic game of "who is the older curmudgeon" come to it's end....my only option is....lay the cards on the table. April, 1976.

Older, young...we are still close enough in age that we're still the kettle to the pot....so be careful what color you call me!:woohoo::blowkiss::poke::whistle:

I feel young @ardee...and so are you. I just know carve likes to HINT that I am old, so I stole his thunder.

If we're old at 40, and live to be 90-100...then we're all in trouble. 40, 50, 60...it's all prime ages anymore, as long as people see themselves as young.

I've seen "old" 30 year olds. I more and more frequently see handful-hot pants over twice that, who turn every head in the room. Age truly is just a number anymore, and long as you believe it/live it. You couldn't pay me enough to be 20 again! :blowkiss:

Case in point? This was NOT 65, thirty years ago. For those of you that aren't 30, or 40, or 50, or 60's or even 70's quit sweating it. We're in a different age cycle now!

    And this is 67...

Right there with you my friend. I may not look as good as some but feel better than others.

Well come on, few of us are blessed with Christy Brinkley's or Mark Harmon's looks, even at 16! But you get my point....different age cycle. My uncle is in his 80s and looks like what early 60s used to be (I.E. he still catches female attention). It's our modern age's "good, clean living"

And ps...I think Ann Margaret would be intimidated standing next you you. I KNOW you light up a room when you enter, and your hubs would back me on this, I guarantee. (Unless you're distracted by bloody Marys and eggs Benedict, of course!)

Ok, @Sonya is going to banish me for hijacking, so I am behaving now!

@Sonya knows better as to how I might light up a room but thank you for the kind words, @Multifarious5.
If we get banished it's all @thecarve's fault, I tell ya.
Still love my first stay in Vegas. There. tried to stay on topic.
