July 1988 Holiday Inn on the strip, now Harrah's. Parking and grass in front of the casinos. It is when I learn that even green grass can cut you, that dry heat does not make concrete feel cooler and that is a long walk to the now gone Wet & Wild.
Also in those early years I also stayed at the Westward Ho and Key Largo, both are now gone.

October 1995, Circus Circus Manor Rooms, which are, unfortunately, still there. ;)

On that trip, we walked down the Strip on one side to the shiny new Mirage, crossed the street to Bally's and back to Circus Circus up the opposite side of the street, since no taxis would stop on LVB to pick us up. Lots of places we explored that day are long gone now.

First time for me (husband had been visiting since the mid-90s) was 2003 at Imperial Palace.
So much fun with the dealertainers and lounge acts. He made an effort to show me as much of Vegas
as he could in the 2 1/2 days we spent there. I was hooked. Loved all of it including downtown.Still do.
Spent the following New Year's Eve at the Golden Gate. Wonderful.
Lots of places gone but not forgotten.

I can sort of go back to the Monte Carlo, just a new name. In a rollaway bed as third person in the room.

But red eye flights, no budget, no comps, eating only at buffets ..... I had a blast, but this is one of those areas where I'll leave the past in the past.

If I could go back, that was my only opportunity to see the Stardust and I never did.

1987 Circus Circus, had an ad in our local paper for $14.95/nite (still the same price today?!?!). Booked 2 nights and haven't stopped going to Vegas ever since. Although the strip has drastically changed over the years; I still love going there to visit my money.

1969, Caesars Palace. I was amazed at the greatness of the place. Most everything there now was not there then, and many have come and gone. No matter. I still love Las Vegas. The only year I’ve missed since was when I was getting shot at in Southeast Asia. Can you guess where I went to celebrate when I got back home alive?

1991 at Excalibur, it was about a year old. Within 2 years had stayed Monte Carlo, Casino Royal, Frontier, Stardust, Imperal Palace and Rio. Rio was free after signing up for room giveaway on a Vegas forum, can’t remember the name...open Vegas? I was hooked!!!

June 2012, was there for work. It's interesting, Vegas wasn't on my radar at ALL. This work trip opened up my eyes.
I stayed at the Hilton on the strip, near Circus Circus. Since June 2012, I've been 19 times, bit number 20 coming up in 6 days.

1980 Imperial Palace, charter flight from the midwest.
They dumped your luggage on the tarmac and I think we all took a bus.
Had NO clue how to play blackjack. Dealers were making fun of us. It was really embarrassing. I vowed to learn the games after that.
Walked across the street (it was a real street back then) to Caesar's when they still wore those cool uniforms. That was the fanciest place I'd ever been.
    That's all I remember. I'm old.

WSOP 2006 - One night at Hooters, then the chap that had arranged my flight/accom moved me to a Masquerade Suite in the Rio, and stayed there for the following 3 weeks.

I've been going to Vegas since I was a kid. My dad often got business (*cough cough* golf) trips and would take the family.

Going in the early 90's I was between 7 and 11, and appreciated the city in a different light.
    • Circus Circus seemed huge as a kid! So much to see and do.
    • Seeing real white tigers at the Mirage :)
    • The pirate battle in front of TI - my younger brother and I loved it! And even after it changed ('03 - '13), I hate that they discontinued it!
    • Exploding volcano by Mirage
    • Monte Carlo - my dad coming up to the room late one night claiming he was rich, dumping buckets of quarters for us to count. Those coin slots looked so fun.
    • I also recall watching the Bellagio fountains show, back when the music was mostly Bochelli and classical smooth stuff. Very pretty (& still is!)
    • Being enamored by slots, and as a result going home with a plastic toy that I could pull the handle and win different combinations. I think it was also a squirt toy.
    • No Uber, no Lyft.
    • No memories of crazy cabbies
    • Caesar's Palace
    • Forum Shops at Caesar's - fountain show
    • Why can't I remember any meals?!
And my first (almost adult) trip to Vegas at 19, I remember...
    • The steakhouse at Circus Circus being okay (Bazaar Meat wasn't even a thing then, and I was not the Vegas foodie I am now!)
    • Falling in LOVE with the food!
    • Watching "O" for the first time, I loved it.
Ever since discovering the slots, food scene and drinks, I continue to go back annually multiple times a year. I love it!

1998 at the Riviera. Arrived at 10pm and we stayed up playing all night at the Riv because we didn't know if it was safe to go across the street to Circus Circus in the dark. On our next trip we moved down the strip to the cool Holiday Inn Boardwalk, because we wanted to ride that Ferris Wheel out front!

I remember feeling like a high roller playing $5 blackjack and thinking that the dealers were giving me signs as to whether or not they had a blackjack when they had an Ace up and checked their hole card. Sometimes I want to go back to those innocent days.....:ssst:
