It was tight, but I maintained my Boyd Emerald card for one more year, starting 10/31. 258,000 points

Yup, congrats Joe. you are only 250,000 points ahead of me. I hardly play the machines so I am lucky to rack up 5,000 points during my stay. I will play the megabucks at various casinos at least once a day and some .25 WOF but that is about it for me. I sometimes play VP but I only put in $20 or $40 and when it is gone I am out of there.

I'm always in awe of those of you who can make it to Emerald... And I see so many Emerald cards being flashed around. How is this possible when the average person visits Vegas maybe 1-4 times max per year?

Probably because they gamble a lot. I notice many of the Hawaii people (especially the elder ones) put in a lot of play on the machines to warrant Sapphire and Emerald. I have a friend who goes to vegas (from Hawaii) about 5 or 6 times a year and she and her husband get everything comped, including the limo to Sam's town from the airport.

Also remember that people from Hawaii may not go to vegas as often so when they do go they will gamble up a storm so they qualify for the emerald or sapphire cards.

I have another friend who gambles a lot, she says during her vegas stay she is on the machines probably about 14 hours a day. Me, nah, maybe I have ADD (attention deficit disorder) because after a few minutes of losing I get bored and will walk away. I won't continue playing on the machines if I'm losing while my other friends will keep playing even when they are losing.

We do play a lot. Sometimes even 16 hours a day minus food time. We average 5x trips per year. We play on my card only and normally just a 4 night trip. I play dollar VP and my wife is quarter VP.

We do get the limo to and from and the Gold Card for food. Except for a little, on-line football bets, all our gambling takes place in Vegas. We have Indian casinos close by, but never go there.

It varies, but lets say we average 13,000 coin-in per day for 5 trips per year. That's 260,000 points. That's Emerald. This year we are doing 6 trips.

Yup, that helps too when you have a partner who is also a player so you can concentrate your points on one card! They should really acknowledge this and make it easier for those of us solo folks. ;-)

(And they do know that couples combine points -- I'm always asked if I want two cards when I get an upgrade card or replacement card!)

16 hours? Don't think I can sit down that long, my butt would start to get sore from all the sitting. So if you lost a lot during the first few hours do you still sit and play on other machines or go play at another casino? Guess I'm a tightwad so after losing the first hundred or so I would go elsewhere or do something other than gambling. But then I only allow about a $2k gambling budget for my trip (about $300 a day) and I don't like to lose so if I lose then I'm doing something else.

I'm a big believer in the random number generator, so I just usually stick it out. Some days that just bites me in the ass and I lose a ton. But there are days I try moving and the next machine is even worse and I come back.

    Congrats @Joe !
Like the way you strategize your play and use of one players card to get the most in comps playing VP. Nice to see I'm not alone in playing 12+ hours a day although I'm primarily a slot sloot....

Joe and I briefly discussed random generators while hitting quad 7's and waiting for scratch cards and then waiting for a celebration drink. Telling you, just forget downtown. You just wait.
Anyway we were questioning the random generator process. Actually I was. Joe was pretty certain. Does it run until you push the button to draw OR does it generate for a specified time and then wait for the button?
OR (yes or no) would it run for the entire time you sat there not hitting "draw".

LOL, how many times did you hit quad 7s while we were sitting next to you? It had to be at least 10 times.

All my research on the the latest machines says it is running until you hit draw. In the old days, it dealt 10 cards right away, or 15 if it was a double up machine.

Emerald! I'm green with envy! Or maybe it's an infection...

    Either way, Congrats, Joe!
