Day One – Thursday - Wynn (with some Ellis Island thrown in) - (some photos are repeated from the live portion to help the report flow)

Those of you you who followed along live will know that this was not a good gambling day…..

Flight from Dublin to Manchester to LAS was good. Flew Virgin, left Dublin at 630am (GMT+1) and arrived in Vegas 12pm (GMT-7). Slept for a couple of hours on the plane, took two sleeping pills so was out of it for a lot of the flight

I literally ran past everyone as they exited the plane and managed to get through US customs in less than 5 minutes which was awesome. Ordered a Lyft that was there within one minute of me reaching the pick up point (Another win).

Arrived at Wynn. I had originally booked a comped night in the Cosmo but changed it to the Wynn as I had a free night there through the Wynn Slots app and wanted to stay there again and seed some money. As I think most people know there is no resort fee attached to these free rooms which really makes them an amazing deal.

The line was short at check-in but remarkably slow. I told the receptionist that all I wanted was a room near an elevator – floor height, view etc not important to me as I was only here for one night. He had me sorted out very quickly and I was on my way.

I like to stop at a couple of machines on my way to my room with my bags and have a cigarette. On the last few trips this has proved to be very profitably (aka lucky). Not this time, lost 200 very quickly playing a random multi-line 3 reel slot at $9 a press.

I got to the room which was lovely I was last in the Wynn in 2017 I think. I love their standard rooms and for free they cant be beat! upload_2019-9-11_17-2-25.png upload_2019-9-11_17-2-53.png upload_2019-9-11_17-2-58.png upload_2019-9-11_17-3-4.png upload_2019-9-11_17-3-9.png upload_2019-9-11_17-3-13.png

After a quick shower I was down on the floor with $400 dollars in hand. I was hoping that this would keep me going until my friend C arrived – unfortunately this was not what ensued.

I played some slots and some VP. I got one poker that paid $250 and was one to a royal off $5K. [IMG][IMG]
I gave it all back and headed to the room to reload.

I played some dragon link and had a few hits so was feeling more confident. I was having a great time playing slots, drinking beers and my reloaded $100 had become $491 [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I love Craps. It is by far my favourite game to play and I love to have long sessions. What I want is value – ie if I lose the money I at least get some good play and the crew are good. The Wynn had a $10 Craps table open which I was very pleasantly surprised to find. The table crew were excellent, helpful, good fun, kept the game moving etc. But luck was not on my side and Craps can be extremely painful, extremely quickly if you get a bit carried away. I was super excited so was definitely over betting and pressing way to quickly. A typical bet was $10 on the pass (with 3-4 times odds) $5 or $15 on the feature (either 1/3/1 or 5/5/5), with a $5 Whirl bet on the come out. Hard ways $2 on each. The whirl was parlayed if it hit, as were the hard ways. IF they hit again, I would press them up by a bit more but not all the way. I was buying the 10 for $20 on some rolls, and had a $12 6 and/or 8 out there too. I do do not think any pressed whirls ever came in (I know that is a high house edge bet btw). I should have reigned myself in and just played on the pass line with odds but Vegas brings out the degen in me.

I think I only managed to play for about 25 minutes before I lost $600 (the 200 I brought down plus the winnings mentioned above). This was down to over-excitement. I would normally walk away and take a break if I lost my original $300 dollar buy-in.

I went back to the room, reloaded, had a couple of hits and then lost that $200 too. At this stage I was down $1000 and was only in Vegas about 4 hours or so. This was not the plan. This was a disaster. This is gambling. And this is an overuse of the word “this”.

My friend “C” has arrived at the Park MGM and was going to meet me at the Encore. I had to go to the room to get more money and we decided to go to Ellis Island to try their BBQ restaurant, their excellent VP conditions, and to scratch it off my vegas bucket list. We got an Uber there and I think it cost about $6.

We joined the Players club and it allows you to swipe your card at a kiosk to win a prize. We won a voucher for some free NFL merchandise (which could be redeemed on Monday night) and a $3 dollar off voucher for the restaurant.

The restaurant was actually full so we put our name down on the waiting list and played some VP – 25c this time – we were having a few beers and having a good time. The gambling went ok I think upload_2019-9-11_17-24-25.png 2019-09-05 22.01.27.jpg 2019-09-05 21.49.40.jpg

The BBQ Restaurant in Ellis Island is very good – I would say it is excellent if you factor in the price. The ribs were falling off the bone and the sauce was delicious. They came with some corn and slaw – I think they cost 16.99 and with the $3 off voucher they were a steal. Service was very good too. C had the half Chicken half ribs and said it was great too. I was not feeling 100% due to lack of sleep and lots of alcohol and did not manage to finish the ribs but that was nothing to do with the taste.

After Ellis Island we headed to CVS to pick up some paper cups and water for the rooms – like many people on here I like to pour myself a drink before hitting the casino floor so you do not get pissed off trying to track down a waitress. I was pretty exhausted but decided against buying Nyquil as I had taken two sleeping tablets on the plane and thought I would aim for some natural sleep – this was not a good decision.

After some more bad gambling in the Wynn I lost about $1800 for day one which was far over budget (I had a 1250 bankroll a day).

I headed to bed around 2am beaten, battered and bruised and unfortunately sleep would not come …. And I was back downstairs by at 4am……. To be continued…

Good start to the write up! My Day 1 was similar but on a much smaller scale. We also did not "Wynn" at Wynn. I do really love the rooms there though! Arguably the nicest room we've ever stayed in in Vegas! Definitely will be going back as long as the app lets us!

And love EI BBQ too. We've learned not to order the combo platter now. So...Much...Food.

    Day Two – Friday September 6th, - Wynn/Bellagio

So I could not sleep and I was like the walking dead to be honest. Headed back down to the Casino just after 4am. Side note – I really like early morning gambling, you have the Casino to yourself, there may be few waitresses but once you find one and give a $5 tip she will be really attentive the rest of the morning.

I went to the Wynn Café to grab some food – Large black coffee and a breakfast Croissant. It was good and cost about $20 for both.

I started off pretty well with some nice hits in Encore. I went up and down for a while and got some decent play in both the Encore and Wynn.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

I noted at the time that I was playing a bit with scared money. When I gamble I always hope to win but “do not care” if I lose – I had brought a budget with me (the biggest BR I had aver brought in cash) and wanted to stick to it if possible. The big loss the previous night had me feeling uneasy that I would not have the BR I wanted to really enjoy the following days.

After winning $500 and having some decent play in the Wynn I wanted a change of scene and checked out and headed over to the Bellagio for 9am.

Unsurprisingly there was no room available but I was happy to check bags and wait. This was the first time I had booked through a host, Joe DeB. I had a corporate offer of 4 nights comped in a Fountain View room with $200 Resort Credit and $325 FP. I was informed at check-in that there was no fountain view available. I said I was a disappointed by this and she spoke to a supervisor but could not get this changed. This was a not a huge deal to me as I was solo but it would have been a bigger blow if MrsM had been in tow. I asked for a room near an elevator on the highest room available. I was given my room keys and they were to text me my room number when it became available. Booking through a host did not seem to deliver anything better to be honest.

I headed for the sports bar and played some $1 VP - turned my 325 FP into about $120 (not a great return) and continued to lose it all and another 200 before taking a break. C was waking up and came to the Bellagio to meet me.

We decided to go on an Mlife Casino crawl and after I checked into my room (28089) we made our way to Aria to grab some food.

We went to Five 50 Pizza for some food. upload_2019-9-12_16-43-49.png Think the bill came to $50 with two soft drinks.

The pizza was delicious and we played a few slots in Aria with nothing exciting to report. We played the new Godfather slot that looks great but was tighter than a Nun’s …….

After Aria we walked through Park MGM (where C was staying). He asked if I wanted to check out his room but I said “no thanks I’m married”….. Eataly was very busy and is a great addition to the Park MGM – that said that is my second time walking through it and my second time not buying anything….

NYNY was next. Jesus, it was hot outside, I think it was 110 degrees. We got a couple of frozen margaritas and were starting to get a good buzz on. The slots there were not kind so we decided to move on.

We headed back out to the desert heat but this time with more frozen margaritas so we were well prepared. Into Excalibur we bounded with the promise of $5 dollar craps…..

I know some people shit all over the Excalibur but I also have a good time there. $5 Craps on the strip is hard to come by for the most part. We both bought in for $100. I was playing $5 on the pass line with full odds, and placing the 6 and 8 for $6 dollars and $1 on the hardways with $5 on the Whirl on the comeout. The table was choppy for the first few rolls. C had a good roll and I was up about $80 dollars. I had a poor roll and when the dice moved all around the table I had about $30 dollars left when the dice came back to me. I said to C that this would be my last roll and was putting everything out there. I hit my first point immediately. All I had was $5 on the front and full odds. Then rolled two sevens in a row. I now had a little bit more to play with. I went 2/2/2/ on the Feature bets and rolled again. I kept the dice for about 35-40 minutes. I hit the ALL (for $420), bet on it again and nearly hit again before hitting a 7 on a comeout roll, put the feature back up again and rolled the Small before 7ing out to huge applause of cheers. THIS WAS FUCKING VEGAS. I cashed out for just over $1000 and the pain of the Wynn was a distant memory.

With no need to go back to the Bellagio to hit the safe we got the tram to Mandalay Bay. We had a great time here jumping from slot to slot. The casino was pretty quiet for a Friday night. Stayed away from Craps and left MAnadalay Bay up over 200 after a couple of hit son Dragon Link

We decided that some food was in order so we got the Tram back to Excalbur and walked over to Shake Shack. I love Shake Shack and make a point of going on most trips. I ordered the Hot Dog and the Shack Burger. I normally order two burgers but thought I’d branch out :) No pics of the food but the burger, in particular, was perfection in a bun. C was underwhelmed by Shake Shack so fuck him.

We now headed back to Park MGM, pretty drunk but with Wallets full of money. I won another 200 on Dragon Link in Park but lost it back playing Zeus and Buffalo. It was 10pm but I was wrecked due to lack of sleep so left C in Park and made my way back to Bellagio. Bellagio was absolutely packed - I had a cigarette at a Dragon Link machine, won a quick 100 and went to bed tired but feeling optimistic about gambling again.

Good report so far. I have the Wynn for 3 nights in December through the app so looking forward to that. Interesting to hear that they had a $10 craps table going, what time was that, was it midweek?

It was on a Thursday. The bellagio had a $10 table in the morning on the Saturday and Sunday so the Wynn may have had one too.

Day Three – Saturday 7th September – Bellagio

Going to bed early and taking some Nyquil worked a treat and was up and feeling good on Saturday morning. Had a couple of hits on the slots.

    2019-09-07 08.43.04.jpg 2019-09-07 08.47.53.jpg

Plan for the day was Top Golf for breakfast and the slot pull in Cosmo.

C met me in the Bellagio and we got an Uber over to Top Golf. We did not have a reservation but it only opens at 9am so was pretty confident it would be ok, and it was. You need to become a member ($5) and the total cost came to $150 dollars for the hour with 2 bloody marys and 2 breakfast burritos (which were tasty). We both play golf (badly) but you do not need any experience to enjoy the games. It was brilliant fun and I will definitely go again. C won the games and was annoyed that he had rejected my offer to gamble on the outcome! (he “wanted” a break from gambling - if you’re not in you can’t win). You can select different games to play and aim at different targets, there are women’s and men’d clubs available. You have you own bay (like a bowling alley) and a large L shaped couch that could sit 8 people and a waitress for drinks etc. There are three levels of bays, the highest level costing the most and has a private pool. Highly recommend giving it a go. Cost of Uber from the Bellagio was $7.

    upload_2019-9-13_12-52-29.png

We then headed over to the Hard Rock hotel. I had never been here before and wanted to check it out before it closes and is rebranded to a Virgin Hotel. I thought it was a really nice casino, smallish but very clean, good atmosphere, good slots slection and very good staff. I was low rolling here and won about 30 dollars on a Planet Moolah machine and C won $60 on Walking Dead. I thought about winning the truck below but there was no way to get it home so left it for another player......

    upload_2019-9-13_12-53-20.png

It was about 1145am and the slot pull was arranged for 130 in the Cosmo so we decided to go straight there. As soon as we arrived I wanted to C to try the Verbena at the Chandelier bar as it is a cool experience. The bar was packed and no seats opened so we decided on slots. I sought out three the old 3 reel Wonka machine that I like and we both sat down to play. We both won the machines which are side by side hitting loads of bonuses (some of them for very very small amounts). Below was the best bonus hit.
    2019-09-07 12.39.47.jpg

I headed over to the High Limit area to scope out a few machines and make my pick for my turn in the Slot Pull. We were all meeting outside Clique bar. I was 20 minutes early so played some multihand VP at 25c level playing 11 hands at a time. I love this machine and sometimes it loves me back. I started with 150 and cashed out with 130 when I went to the restroom and C took the machine over. I then moved to machine beside it (a STP) and went on a great streak and finished up about $120 but the other players were arriving so I cashed out so we could all introduce ourselves.

The “rules” for the slot pull were:
    · $200 buy in
    · You have complete control over when to stop, ie as many spins as you like and you can play down to zero
    · All winnings are split evenly.
    · All Freeplay generated during the pull is played through at the end too.
    · As I am Irish we would have no tax liability on any jackpots (sadly this was not needed L )

    I think we had 8 entries which was pretty good. Me, C, @UnicornTX rnTX +1, @black29 +1, @himmelsin9 +1.

We did not have as much success as the slot pull last September insofar as the money went faster, but the overall result was about the same thanks to “M” (@UnicornTX 's better half) and his $1,015 dollar hit on Pinball at $30 a spin. We generated about $30 dollars in freeplay which lead to nothing too……

It was great to meet everybody and 8 people is a nice number as you can use the HL room without getting any hassle from staff. Will organize one again in future as it was not much stress or hassle.

It was great to see @UnicornTX and M again – unfortunately we never managed to meet up for a craps session which was a shame – Next time for sure!

After the group pull myself and C headed back to the Bellagio as he wanted to concentrate his play in mlife. We sat at the Bacarrat bar and I lost $400 playing VP and then went over to the Craps table and played some $15 dollar Craps. After winning over $1,000 in Excalibur the previous day I was feeling (overly)confident. Overconfidence when playing Craps is a dangerous strategy. Despite hitting a $5 parlayed whirl bet for over $150 I managed to donk away $800 dollars. Shit – the trip was starting to feel bad form a gambling point of view again…..

I went to the room, had a shower and got dressed to head out. As all of you know @Gaggles gles was getting married and he had very kindly sent me a message to drop in for a drink – how could I go to see the VMB Wedding of the year! (So no Wedding Crashing needed). I did not want to arrive empty handed so went to the Bellagio Sports book to place a wager on Ireland to win the Rugby World Cup which is starting at the end of September. Up I go to the counter and say I want to place a futures bet on the Rugby World Cup – “Sorry sir we do not cover that competition” - I said you must be mistaken, the Rugby World Cup in Japan that starts in a couple of weeks? - Nope the Bellagio are not taking wagers on it! I asked if he could check with a supervisor, which he did and No coverage of it. Crazy stuff – the TV audience for the Rugby World Cup is over 4 BILLION (I checked on Wikipedia)….. The wedding was in the Flamingo so I asked at their Sports Book and sure enough – No problem Sir here you go and good luck.

I made my way into Carlos’n Charlies in the Flamino, accosted Gaggles, we shared a beer, grabbed a photo and I left the happy couple to enjoy their evening with their friends. It was a great venue and Mrs Gaggles looked truly beautiful as you can see below.

    2019-09-07 19.40.47.jpg

After leaving the wedding I did some low rolling in the Cromwell. I twas crazy hot out and I had put a jacket on going out so needed to go back to room and get changed and told C not to meet me at the Cromwell as originally planned.

Back in the Bellagio, I played some VP at the Sports Bar. Hit one poker of 10s [IMG] and played Craps for about 4 hours at a $15 dollar table where I was up $300 at one stage but managed to grasp a big loss ($800) out of the jaws of victory …….Also, I managed to 7 out three times in a row when it was my roll which is always embarrassing (even though it shouldn’t be).

We were heading into out last full day and things were far from looking good........ I want to add that I was still enjoying myself but sometimes when you get carried away gambling you stop and go OH SHIT PLEASE LET ME GO BACK IN TIME!

    Trips to Las Vegas:
    16
    Day Four/Five – Saturday/Sunday September 8th/9th, - Bellagio

So I headed into my last full day. This is normally a day that turns into a gambling frenzy but it started slowly (badly) in keeping with the trip so far. My morning gambling session resulted in losing $300 in VP and $300 ughhhh…..

C had never been downtown so that was the next port of call….. I usually hit up Pizza Rock but we had a large pizza in the Bellagio that night before so were all pizzaed out (we also had Five 50 the day before that too!).

We got an uber to The D and played a few slots, I really like the D, great atmosphere. We then headed over to the Downtown Grand for the full VP paytables. We sat at the bar and had a few beers. I lost (Surprise Surprise) but C managed to double up to 200 dollars.

We headed over to Nacho Daddy for some food – it was about 12pm and there was only space at the bar (which we wanted anyway). We both ordered the Daddy Margarita (delicious $12) and I had the Supreme Tostada Nacho and C had the Flaming Shrimp Tacos. Everything was superb, including the staff and I will add it to my Vegas rotation.

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

We decided to do some Casino hopping and walked Fremont popping into various casinos and dropping 20 dollars here and there. C kept on winning and won $180 on some random Wonder Woman bonus that just popped up (ie he did not spin a bonus or anything) on a $1 bet.

We headed back to The D for some $5 Craps. Although I did not win at the Craps this was still a great decision. The Crew were hilarious, the pitboss was great, the drinks service was spot on and my $200 lasted for about 2 hours. I was up at one stage but just had to try and push my luck. The stickman asked me if I was a Dealer at one stage, and I said no but asked why? I like to put a bet out for the crew, just $1 dollar on the pass line and on the hardways if I have number pressed up – he said because I was betting for them on every roll he thought I must have worked in a Casino! Hopefully these $1 dollar bets will lead to a higher rating being given. I had actually forgotten my card and the Pit Boss had one made up for me and they were very thankful for all the tips which is great – I know it is only a dollar and that especially in the larger casinos some players tip huge amounts, it is always good to hear a ‘thank you’ for all tips.

As I had been lacking sleep so much on this Trip I decided that I would go for a 3 hour nap back in the Bellagio before we headed out for our last night – you can’t lose money while you sleep so it at least stopped the rot too for a while……..(Sleeping was a great decision too)

I told C I would meet him over in the Aria at 930 for dinner in Julian Serrano Tapas. I took another dose of Nyquil and was woken up by my alarm at 845, jumped in the shower and headed towards the Bellagio Lobby. Although I was running a little bit late I decided to stop and put 100 in a Dragon Link Machine and won over $150. Got the Tram to Aria, met C and decided to play a few slots before dinner. We both won a little bit on some Buffalos before Dinner.

We sat at the bar in Julian Serrano Tapas and ordered a couple of glasses of Justin Cab Sav ($18 a glass and a great wine). We ordered two plates each. I ordered the Lobster Noodle dish and the Oxtail (which I had the last time I was there and loved). C ordered the Short Rib and the some breaded cheese thing (no idea what it was). (also, sorry about the half eaten food photos :)

C played and continued his winning streak playing Dragon Spin and was a having a good gambling night.

We headed over to the famous row of machines on from of the MLife desk in Aria and played a lot of STP – couple of good hits but nothing photo worthy. C was still up and decided to put 100 into a Lightning Link outside the HL rooms where the min was $5 a spin (which is outside his comfort zone of gambling). First 100 went quickly, second went even faster!

Got a message from @tringlomane that he and his better half were in the Bellagio, so we headed over there to meet them for a drink (I had to hit the safe in my room too to reload again).

We played some VP and had a few drinks with @tringlomane and M, I think Tring hit a premium 4 of a kind. Tring and M gave an improntu VP lesson on a few of the games and the tweaks they suggested made a difference later on in the night so thanks to our VMB VP mastermind Tring!

It was about 330am when Tring and M and C headed off. This had been a tough gambling trip but I was not ready to give up yet. I decided I would do some low rolling for a while and floated around the Bellagio. My plan was (as always) to go straight through to the airport, no sleep just gamble. My flight was not until 6pm so this was a longer than normal all nighter but I had unfinished business J

I was down to my last $100 (I think I had about 300 left in the safe in the room too). I headed over to a Dragon Link machine to play a couple of 2.50 a spins and found a great hot machine…….

Next I went to the slots that are in between the HL room and the Buffet in the Bellagio and sat down at a Pinball machine (one of the older ones). I really wanted to play a $5 denomination like the one I won big on on my last trip but decided I needed some value if I was going to play for another 8 hours so I played the $1 version at $2 dollars a spin. As you can see from the photo I was down to $6 dollars when “Double Diamond” “Double Diamond” “Double Diamond” popped up. I was in shock - $1600 on a $2 dollar bet. The slot attendant came over, congratulated me and I told her I was Irish etc, no need to pay tax and she went off and got completed the relevant forms and came back with a manager and gave me the handpay. I rang Mrs M and sent a photo in a family Whatsapp group and my mother instantly replied “Don’t lose it all back now”. It was 530am Vegas time and 1pm Irish time). The slot attendant paid it all in $100s so I just gave her $20 as a tip (was this enough??)

I needed to catch my breath so headed over to a $5 pinball machine and I swear to God FIRST SPIN I hit this…..$650

Cashed out and moved to the machine beside it which was a $5 Top Dollar and hit the bonus on the second spin for an offer of $200.

Now we were really cooking – I had just won $2450 back in the space of 30 minutes (including the wait for the Handpay).

Decided to step away from slots so as not to get over excited and give it all back. I went back over to the sports bar, put 100 in a machine and ordered a coke and hit this….

I was on a high. I went back to my room and made a deposit in my safe so as not to be tempted at a craps table. Took 300 back down to the floor with me. There was a Craps table with about 3 players on it at $10 limit. Bought in for $200. It was nearly 6am and I left the table at 11am. The table limit increased after about an hour but I was grandfathered in. I had two monster rolls myself and was quickly up over 400. Then gave a little back, won a little, gave a little back. Choppy. But brilliant fun. Great crew. I did not go made on any rolls, sometimes just playing pass-line with odds and nothing else. I had a $100 "4" at one stage and was thinking of "You can Bet on That" podcast where Mark and Mike had it pressed up to $5K and I was thinking ,maybe this will be my night (or morning in this case). I stopped drinking alcohol and just ordered coffees and waters. I took a quick break to go to the hosts office to organise a late checkout and they wiped everything off my bill bar gratuities. Late check out offered was as late as I wanted I am assuming as it was a Monday.

Left the Craps up about $250 which was a great.

C was ringing to see if I wanted to grab some food. We decided on the Bellagio buffet. C had checked out of Park MGM and the Host on Duty there has a pretty rude to him seemingly. They knocked $75 of his bill (he had paid full rate on mlife site for the rooms) and would not waive any resort fees despite the fact that he gambled solidly for the 4 nights (pretty shitty in my opinion).

The buffet was just ok. I am not a buffet fan to be honest – although I did enjoy Wicked Spoon in March. Unless you are planning on gorging on food there is better value in going somewhere nicer in my opinion. I paid with express comps as I had already had the host on duty look at my room charges but at least it was free.

We left the buffet pretty quickly and I went up and packed and showered and changed clothes. Would have liked to have gotten into bed but probably would not have woken up. I was not due in the airport for a few hours yet so headed back down for some more gambling. I had stopped drinking hours earlier but decided that a few bloody marys were not going to hurt. I went back to the Sports bar and the bartenders laughed when they saw me again and I told them hadn’t slept at all.

MY luck was just in. Below are a few of the hits and near misses - I was so sure A RF was coming (SPOLIER - it didn't). Most are at quarter as everytime I went to $1 I lost. Switch to quarters BOOM, another win. Great fun though.

Honestly cannot remember what I cashed out at but I played until 3pm and then headed to the airport where I lost $40 on various slots until I said to myself “what the fuck are you doing, stop gambling and enjoy the comeback!)

I will try and find time to write up some final thoughts later on. Hope this is not too detailed but I like to have them for myself to read back on before my next trip - its like having a diary!

Great recap! Especially hearing those results, but I'm glad you got some of it back after we left you! And yes, I think $20 tip is enough on $1600 personally. It was great seeing you again! Maybe do it again next year? ;)
