Ultimately I think they are just trying to send a message to the Strip. After all, Cosmopolitan went from king to pauper in these awards. They want to deflate the Strip ego. And also bring attention to the downtown renaissance. It certainly feels rigged. Andiamo has all of 54 reviews on yelp. There are Vegas restaurants with hundreds and thousands of reviews. It is so rigged.

Ok first, having to click to see every result is just annoying. Maybe there was a better page I should have looked at.

I like that downtown is getting more attention. I wish many of the casinos on the strip would do similar things than downdown does. If just feels like the results were basically bought with hosting VIMPF there. Nothing wrong with that, its a poll. I just will ignore the answers even more than I did in the past.

I really have no clue how much this actually helps the winners. If it ends up being a big boost to the D, then I would expect the D to host VIMPF next year and every other year in the future. It has to be some of the cheapest advertising for them.

I think I'm only annoyed because I want something to actually come out of this. Since I like Vegas, I like looking at lists of things people like and maybe trying them out. I have NEVER heard of the steakhouse in the D being the top of anyones list before now though. If there were a list of 5 and this was in there, I would go and try it out. But saying it is better than every other steakhouse, I'll just ignore it because I'm given no reason why it is the best.

I think it is unfair to say the vote was "rigged" as that implies corruption that I don't believe is the case, perhaps the phrase "statistically irrelevant" is fairer.

All I needed to hear was the D had the best hotel rooms in Vegas and stopped paying attention. Maybe they have nice rooms, maybe their rooms are decently priced, maybe they're even the best value?? But to tell me they have nicer rooms then Aria, Bellagio etc....is just stupid.

Good call, that seems like the proper terminology.

Surely I thought naming Bills to Gansevoort then to Cromwell is the biggest story of the year. :poke:

Seriously though, it's seemed like the Downtown Grand was a bigger story than the D, it created more buzz, at least on this board.

Seriously I don't get what is going on over at VT site. Ever since Jeff Simpson passed away there seems to be a lack of interest on maintaining that site with quality content. Every now and then they produce a good nugget and I like the Misnomer stuff, but they are really sucking balls against VegasChatter and the VitalVegas blog. I used to look at the Trippies as a valid internet community vote to counter the RJ Best of Vegas edition. It's a shame that it has dropped in quality. I guess the guys over there are more focused on other things.

It might just be time to put a bullet in that site, focus on VegasGang podcast and VIMP events and just contribute content to some of the other online communities. We all know these things have an enviable shelf life just like Vegas properties. They either evolve or die.

I agree with that. VT is no longer a valuable site for breaking and/or insider news

VegasGang podcast is quite good, though. Ironically, the passing of Jeff Simpson made it much more digestible. He dominated things way too much.

During the Jan 15th Vegas Gang podcast Chuck and crew addressed some of the complaints raised about the Trippies. I do want to commend Chuck and the folks who work on the Trippies for his efforts. I do appreciate the fact he takes the time to invest in putting this thing on. It also looks like the content is now being updated on the TR site again, based on the past weeks activity.
His podcast explanation was kinda bs though, and he pandered to his readers emotions with some blabbering lament in trying to explain it. Why not just admit, hey the voting's not perfect, yeah some of it was bs, and we will try harder next year rather then defend the votes.

I hope come next year they re-evaluate the process by which they collect votes and re-evaluate their sampling of voters if they want to retain some legitimacy.

Tim and Michelle at Five Hundy by Midnight made an interesting comment, that the reader choices awards were really a popularity contest. If you hold that view point, I probably would stop calling it an award then and call it the Annual Trippie Poll.

I think this past Dec Trippies was the last year I will be participating in this popularity poll.

I was left thinking well that's a nice coat of lipstick on a pig myself, then read the results of the Trppies and wondered if I was even in the same hotel as received all these votes. No question this years was the most slanted/fake/shilled/irrelevant results I have read.
