I did a bunch last year after reopening, but that was actually just to increase my spend and coin-in. Since I live in AZ I don’t really consider Vegas a ‘vacation’, I go 2-3 days once a month, but paying actually worked out cheaper than a comp in my case. I used myVEGAS F&B offers for Mandalay Bay, Park MGM, and Mirage ( I’d cycle thru). It would normally cost me about $270 for 3 nights including resort fees ( tho they’d sometimes comp those based on play), but I’d get $50/day in food and beverage (-$150) which I would increase the value of by using non premium restaurants rewards ( NFI 2 for 1 etc). Then because my stay was ‘paid’ I was allowed to use the regular freeplay rewards stacked because I had 3 days, I used the (25,50,100) and because I have 4 premiums I’d also do a myKONAMI $25. So in that case I didn’t mind since I was getting $150 in F&B, $200 in freeplay, and all the extra tier credits. Those trips have helped earn me comps at all MGM properties now except Bellagio. In a normal situation I’d probably still go but less frequently and probably just mid tier.

When I was in my 20's, I would only take comped rooms which were usually at the lower-end properties. I already had Vegas comps before my first trip there from playing in Windsor. Into my mid-30s now I stay where I want and pass on comps if I don't want to stay there.

I have discounted rates booked at NoMad, Delano, and Bellagio for the future and passed on comps elsewhere.

No free rooms, no go. Plenty of gambling locally.

Getting comp rooms make a big difference in terms of cost. I’d definitely go more if I can get comp rooms. If not, then a lot less Vegas trips. 5 comp nights even at week day add up, and that’s saving of 1-2k off the bat, and I’d use the hotel money as part of gaming budget. Probably half of the time I’d donate the hotel room money back to the casino.

Yes. I used to get way-off-peak freebie offers from Boyd and maybe a couple others every now and then, back when they sent them just to get asses in the seats, as it were, but I haven't seen one in years.

I am perfectly happy paying cash during bargain basement summer weekdays and am glad not to feel any pressure to gamble above my comfort level, which is very low. I mostly go to Vegas to eat at restaurants and relax, and I often find gambling at even moderate levels to be stressful. Whenever I do gamble, I feel like I'm probably going to lose, which kind of makes it hard to enjoy gambling enough to play to the level of getting comps, since I've usually had enough after an hour or two. Also I sometimes go with my family including kids, in which case we often rent a timeshare suite at a non-casino property.

We are spoiled. We haven't paid for a casino room in a long, long time. I won't say I will NEVER pay for a casino room but it will take some unusual circumstances for me to do so. So far, I still have plenty of free rooms and I hope it stays that way.

Our Vegas blueprint is a comped room with a free flight (points/miles). Hope it holds up for a few more years at least!

I really had to think about this. I have paid for exactly 2 room nights since the 1980's. And it's safe to say I have spent 100's of nights in Vegas during that time.

I think maybe I would go if I had to pay for rooms. MAYBE. But, I would probably only go once a year, if that. And I'd stay at a place like Red Rocks or perhaps Green Valley Ranch, as opposed to strip or downtown.

I like the free rooms but I have been known to pay to upgrade my free room to keep the little lady happy.

No; I go to Vegas during weekends and holidays; so there’s no way I could afford to pay for rooms AND have a discretionary budget.
To me, Vegas is for gambling with people in “vacation” mode/and or people watching those same people.
Gambling at locals (or even reno) isn’t the same, people those people usually can’t afford to gamble.

Yes, back in the day—circa, 1980's and 1990's—I was never comped, total low roller. I would sometimes bring only about $500 for total expenses, gambling included. Of course, in those days a room at the Sands or Dunes or Flamingo was cheaper than the current resort fees—Sands was often only $19.99 a night in their bungalows with the pool just outside. $2 blackjack and lots of $2 bets on the ponies.

Now, no way. I'm always comped in one way or another. Room rates got stupid high when they decided to add the resort fee into the mix about 10 years ago. $19.99 suddenly became $59.99 or some such. Ridiculous. I'm now quite fastidious in getting every penny of comps out of my gambling dollar.

I'm also a big fan of the apps MyVegas and Wynn Slots which allow me to get comps simply by playing on my phone. Something I could have never imagined when I first went to Vegas in 1982.

No, if I’m going to lose a few grand over a weekend, the least the casino can do is comp me the room.

If that stopped, I wouldn’t fly 5 hours across the country to Nevada save for someone else’s event or work, especially when I have a handful of casinos an hour or less from me. Vegas has lost some appeal for me, speaking as a CET player, with garbage rules since reopening and mins being far higher. If they take away the rooms, which they seem to be doing to an extent based on my calendar, I’d have no incentive to feel like my money is worth it.

Long and short, I love gambling and the atmosphere in Vegas, but it’s becoming more clear that, at least recently, other establishments seem to value my business more. We shall see I suppose if this lasts, I hope it doesn’t but I’m prepared if it does.

I will pay for 1 night if my comps don't cover it, which happens every now and then on a Friday or Saturday. Otherwise, it's a hard no. I won't go unless my flight is free and the room is comped for all but 1 night (if necessary). It's an accountability thing... I'm afraid if I start biting the bullet and paying that I will be out there each month, which would not be good for me lol.

That is a REALLY good idea, and I might consider doing something just like that for my next trip, rather than use an MLIFE offer.
