Why cheap out on food when you are willing to lose hundreds?

Funny how uptight people get on this topic... I re-read the original post, does seem like a fair enough question?

For me a meal good enough to be a lasting happy memory is worth 10 'very good' ones... and at only 3x (ish) the price, could be good value. Only problem is that not every 'name' restaurant is a winner in the 'lasting memory' game.... then again, we go to Vegas to gamble, right?

I have a novel idea! What if everyone just did what works best for them? Crazy, I know. :wink2:

Personally, i like to treat myself to a nice meal or two when I'm in Vegas. Buy if you want to eat from the dollar menu at the food court for every meal, more power to ya.

I'm sorry. I don't mean to be judgemental at all. Just an observation. I apologize for being judgemental.

I enjoy good food and don't mind paying for it. Everyone should do as they enjoy for sure. I guess it all comes down to where you want to spend your money. And that is always a personal choice... no judgement from me.

BTW, I don't think food prices in Vegas are much more than in other touristy places.

Bottom line, we all go to Vegas for a good time. For me, that includes indulging in some great chow.

Thanks for the support RUSH. Go Wisconsin!!!

I don't think the OP was judging. But that's just me being judgmental. :evillaugh:

The OP asked a question that was related to a question we had a long time ago about our behavior.

"Why are we taking a bus in Las Vegas instead of a cab to save four dollars when we are betting $25 a hand at blackjack?"

We looked at each other and said, "That's dumb!" and never rode the bus again.

Well I, for one, am willing to be judgmental and let the chips fall where they may:

Everybody who does anything differently than the way I do things is weird, twisted and probably communist. (Not you, honey - you're just weird.)

Last night I started my gambling in Atlantic City by putting $120 on the craps table ($60 six and $60 eight)...and yet, I wouldn't go with my husband to the buffet because our comp was only a BOGO and the cost would have been $39.95. We ate at the diamond lounge instead. (In AC the diamond lounges serve a full, though very abridged, buffet). As flusher stated, when I'm gambling I have close to a 50:50 chance of doubling my money. At the restaurant I have zero chance of doubling my money. When I travel and there are no casinos THEN meals become part of the travel experience. Next to gambling, meals take a very far back seat.

I love a great meal, and eat out decently whenever I can. In Vegas I'm not interested in spending a ton because I don't feel like I have to. Between resort credits and reward credits/comps we're usually squared away, but I at least need to see that number chopped in half because some of those places do have inflated price. And as a travel destination, I expect that to be the case.

One thing we've done is toss any spare winnings into the safe or Winner's Bank and put whatever's in there towards a nice final lunch or dinner. Even on a "bad" trip, there may be $80 or more. Five bucks here or there adds up.

Thank you! That loose thing drives me nuts.

To the op. I like to have a nice meal once a trip but I do have a limited budget so if I eat nice meals every meal it lowers my gaming budget.

Also time... when I go to GRS.... it is like a 2 hour experience. I don't wanna "waste" my vegas time with meals like that every night.

    Right. For me anyway.

And a sizable portion of our members also, I've noticed.

I'm not a huge fine dining fan, but for a decent meal I'd rather go to a top restaurant in London currently. Vegas prices are currently a real killer for us Brits on the exchange rate, but there is still lots of reasonable food at reasonable prices. Right now I just can't justify the high end prices Vegas translates into for the likes of Ramsay Steak and so on.

Also, as many others have stated, I go to Vegas to gamble. I'd much rather put my funds towards something I can't do back home (well can't do anything like to the same extent).

No worries OP. We have been through this topic many times before and we're all different.

Personally, I like maybe one or two good meals when in Vegas, if comped. The rest is just filler for me.

When at home cooking steak, it's filet mignon topped with maitre d'hotel butter. Lobster tails, crab with clarified butter, chicken stuffed with shrimp, throw in a nice bottle of wine...I make it all (but not every night!). See I spend good money on food when I'm cooking it for myself. I don't need to pay high prices for someone else to cook me a good cut of meat that I would rather enjoy cooking at home for a fraction of the price.

You could if you drew the kicker whilst holding the four Angus Cuts.

We aren't fancy dining people, and we don't like to spend more for food away. then we do at home. We eat to live, not live to eat.

Only on Double Barnyard Bonus, though. In the long run your best bet is still to play Chickens or Better (COB).

My dining is somewhat dependent on my mood. I always take one night of my trip to have a sit down nice dinner. I however choose to do this within Palazzo or Venetian because I get those meals comped. Not that their restaurants don't give me plenty of choices or are restaurants I wouldn't pay for for even if they weren't "free". I however have many restaurants I haven't tried only for the reason that I don't get comped at those hotels. But of course I don't mind losing $1,000's in a slot machine or think twice about it. Lol There are times too that I'm just as content to grab a slice of Secret Pizza or Pizza Rock and it's satisfying and delicious. I rarely eat breakfast, but if I do I order room service for the convenience of having it delivered to my room where I can eat in my robe and again...it's free. Everything tastes better when it's free! Lol I just prefer to spend more money on gambling than food, but enjoy both. ;)
