It looks like we’re still going in 2 1/2 weeks unless the city shuts down. I can go either way but my pals are leaning hard to go.

We Vegas a little different. I really enjoy the neon, crazy buildings, the climate and the palm trees. I suppose some might feel that way about pine trees but I’ve live around those things my whole life and I enjoy my breaks!

My friends like the luxury experience. Last year when his teenage son asked what he was looking forward to the most, he exclaimed “the bed! I can’t wait to just lay in the bed” lol. And I love the soaking tub and terrace of course.

So the point being, the things we really like are still there. Not having bars is a bummer but not a deal breaker. In short - we old! Drinking eating gambling and staring into space by the pool or the terrace are the goals. I believe we can do these things safely. Probably some in room breakfasts and avoiding the casino if it’s too busy. Nervous but still looking forward to it.

As of today, we are all a go for September 5 - 8. Booked for the Cal but the pool is currently closed. Due to this we decided to double book over that the Orleans as their pool is open. I have heard from an attendant on the phone that their pool is not getting many people currently and that makes me smile with social distancing a possibility. Not sure what night we will move over to the Orleans or even if we will. May just go the route of running over a couple of days to use the pool.
With all of this being said, data that is coming out changes every day. Hoping this trip will happen, but still too early to tell.

Flight leaves in 47 hours and I plan to be on it.

    Don't care about the mask.

I don't drink in Vegas and even if I did, it would not be at a bar since I love not talking to people. I did spend most of my time on my last trip at the Long Bar at The D, playing video poker. I am okay with being forced to give this up. I played so much more than normal and was rewarded by my offers being moved to Golden Gate.

Don't care about the reduced dining part except that the 24 hour Starbucks at Linq/Flamingo now opens at 6:00 am. I'll be working remotely for three days so I'll be late to work those three days as I'll be getting coffee at 9:00 am east coast time.

Other minor inconveniences that exist but will not stop me:

    - no Wax bus

    - no large bags on Fremont - is this still a thing? I normally stay on the bus to Walgreens so I can buy heavy things like bottles of water and shove them in my suitcase for easy transport to my room

All in all, this doesn't sound too bad.

Yeah I agree. The transportation issues are becoming a bigger annoyance factor. I don't always take the Wax but I like it as an option. Limos are just too opulent for my needs and I can't seem to find a simple sedan service for airport round trip. So it's a cab or Lyft, and both seem chaotic now. It's more of a concern when heading home, as I don't want to racing to get on the plane.

I agree. I don't want to be stressed on my way back to the airport. Bad enough having a trip end as it is.

We're still committed to August 2-5. But I'll tell you, ten days out and I'm going to be wondering every day from now until then whether they shut it all down on us at the last minute. I really hope not, because we're looking forward to it. It's going to be different and I'll accept that just to get out of town for a while. Just let me go.

Just canceled our trip for August.:( Not so much worried about the virus, as that can be contracted almost anywhere now, but more concerned with them shutting everything down again mid-trip once we arrive. We'd hate to be "captive" in a closed casino for days until our flight leaves. As an aside, I'd like to thank Sonya and contributors on this board for helping us make this decision based on FACT and SCIENCE, as opposed to fantasy and wishful thinking. Sonya's daily Covid reports are as informative as any on the inter webs, so thanks everyone. This is the second time we've had to cancel.Maybe we'll try again in spring...

We are supposed to leave Saturday for Tahoe and finish up the second half of the trip in Vegas at Palazzo and bring it to a close for a one night cosmo fountain view. I have been back and forth but
Have already flown this summer and it was ok and I was safe
We here in Illinois have been masked up for a while so used to the whole routine
Since bars are closed going to assume this lessens the lossy goosey crowd a bit
    Reports here support mask enforcement
And I just made a reservation for a steam engine ride in Virginia city Sunday that is non refundable lol
So barring any crazy info from the Governor tomorrow I need to start packing and getting my envelope system up. I know someone might ask but I have never done a trip report. If it’s as easy as this little blurb I would open to it. Suggestions on where to get better instructions appreciated

I would love to see your take on Virginia City - it’s on my bucket list but I don’t have much inside info.

Trip reports are fairly easy if you have a smartphone and the tap-a-talk app. If I can do it, anyone can, we’d love it!

I was looking at possibly going in November around my 40th - but only if there's a vaccine by then. Or if this country gets it under control like, oh, everyone else.

As things are now? Not a chance. I'm glad I got a trip in in January, before everything went to hell.

Hopefully I don't get furloughed or laid off in the fall. As long as that doesn't happen then hopefully I'll be able to go next year for a late 40th at some point in the spring.

We'll see. This all just sucks.

Pulled the plug for my trip next weekend. Doesn't make any sense to go right now with Nevada cases still uncomfortably high. Thanks Sonya for all the information you have provided so I could make an informed decision. Rebooked now for November and Breeder's Cup weekend. Fingers crossed.

I just got back last night. Despite being on the fence before going, I'm glad I made the decision to keep the trip. The Vegas I like is still there, albeit a little worse for wear at the moment. I had no problems getting into the restaurants I frequent, and I even threw in some new ones. The quality of service at the Bellagio and several other places haven't skipped a beat despite everything that's happened, which really impressed me. My only quibble, and this is hardly the fault of Las Vegas, is that the lower prices attracted a lot of unsavory people as well as a crap ton of families with kids. I never understood the reasoning behind taking kids there during a normal year, let alone one dominated by a highly contagious pandemic. But, I digress. In any event. I'm already looking ahead to my next trip in a couple months.

Erm… yeah we're planning to do that in about a week. Sorry. I don't normally understand it either, as I like my adult fun unencumbered. BUT, we've been telling her for years we would bring her this summer. The reasoning was, we were supposed to be at a conference in March, so we would already have had our adult trip. Naturally the conference got canceled so it's either bring her, or we're not going to be able to go this year, with her being in school and all.

I've convinced myself it's better at this moment since it won't be so crowded and thus overwhelming for her, or hard to handle for us? We can't hang out a bar this trip anyway... She's a pretty cool kid, and she's looking forward to it... I know some will judge us, given the situation. *shrug*

Would you elaborate on this a little? Unsavory in what way?

I've heard some say to make reservations because of the occupancy limits, so I was worried about this. We're going midweek so I assume it won't be an issue?

To be blunt, there were a lot of trashy people. The thread about scooters in "Getting there and getting around" goes into a little more depth. Maybe it's because it was a lot less crowded than usual, thereby magnifying things, but it was definitely noticeable.

Midweek I think you should be okay. I was only one person, so my situation was different, but even still a lot of restaurants I saw weren't even close to the 50% occupancy. Or, rather, I didn't see any lines forming (and I did a LOT of walking around), except at the M&M Store. If you want to go there, you'll likely have to wait in a line for a bit. But that's not food.

Not me! I canceled 2 trips to Vegas since the Covid outbreak and won’t go back until I can experience it in the fashion in which I’m accustomed to!

Thanks!! It is only day one and twice now I have tried taking a drag of a cigarette with my mask on because I forgot it was on, even though I had to pull it down to light it. Yay.
