We are both non smokers so of course it is a hard choice. I have a friend who stayed at the Stratosphere and loved it, i was thinking royal resort and i also like the looks of excalibur.

We won't have a car to get around, what is your favorite budget hotel near or on the stirp??? What about these 3? will be going in april

Ballys and Flamingo are both pretty affordable and in a great location for walking

the cheapest of those 2 is $80 a night plus resort fees which is more than i want to spend. Looking for under 60, prefer under 50

are you checking smartervegas.com or Total Rewards rates?

Rates are also good at Luxor and Excalibur which are convenient to Mandalay Bay, NY NY, Tropicana, MGM Grand. I recently got 4 nights at Luxor on my MLife account for $198 including tax.

    The Quad!

Of the op's choices, excalibur is the best location easy. Between a tram and a easy walk you have 5 to 6 other casino's to get to.

Since you do not have a car, the Stratosphere may not be a good option. It is a good walk to center Strip from that far North. Based upon your budget I also assume you want to minimize cab expense, again another strike against Strat.

Given all the bad reviews on The Quad, I would normally not suggest it unless you just wanted very budget accomodations and were not overly concerned with room decor, worn carpeting and construction. However, since it appears you are going April 2014, I would book the best rate at The Quad and join the guest/email offer group of every single Strip property. You can book your best rate, now, and keep track of better rates as you receive emails. Plus, construction continues on The Quad and it appears the property will improve over then next several months. All the hotels will allow you to cancel within 48 hours of arrival and credit back your credit card for he first night deposit you are charged. Regular board members will echo the book now, watch for lower rates and rebook approach.

Some resorts to also watch are TI, Tropicana, Excal and Luxor. Luxor, Excal and Luxor are a bit long in the tooth so they discount more. Some will suggest Hooters, it's a great location but take a look at it prior to pulling the trigger. The Westin is not budget but you can sometimes find an inexpensive rate.

    Hello you sweetcanadian,

Some of this depends on how many times you have been to Vegas. If you are pretty used to it then hotel quality might not be as important.

    Two approaches here...

Excalibur/Luxor - because you have the option of a $2 WAX bus ride downtown if you want lower gambling minimums, and want to experience it. 30 minutes, $2 each way, picks up outside NYNY and drops outside MGM.

The other way is to be center strip as someone suggested, Ballys or maybe the Quad.

If you haven't registered your email on the various hotel casino websites, do so - you'll probably get some discount offers just based on that, and it might get you under your $50.

One thing - there are no mosquitoes in Nevada, so export some of yours. ;)

Neither of those are near anything...

When are you going? Can you give us exact date?

If it's a weekend, that rate isn't possible really, even at the crappiest of places... Excalibur is a good option. I'd recommend it, it's clean, and a decent location.

Also check hotwire.com, or priceline express deals, might be able to get something nicer at a cheaper rate. But, I mean at $60 or $50 for your budget you are talking $30 a night + resort fee. Think about that...

https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?pid=EXC&host=promo&show=rates&code=XTRIP&kbid=335345&sub=YDYFG!W!XTRIP!US here's a discount for Excalibur, they have several dates at $28 a night.

    https://reservations.mgmmirage.com/bookingengine.aspx?pid=LUX&host=promo&show=rates&code=LE71713N&kbid=1162904&sub=YDYFG!W!LE71713N!US Luxor $30 a night.

That would fall in your budget. Luxor is the nicer of the two..

we are going during the week. I was thinking the duece would be a good option to get around, does it not stop "The STRAT ??

It is our first trip, room decor isn't much for us as we do not spend much time in the room other than to sleep and get ready.

I want under $50 because once you add resort fees its usually close to 75 by the looks of things.

Did you look here for offers???

Get on the e-mail list for offers.

Another suggestion is to go onLine to get an estimate price then call for actual price too. When you check onLine the price can vary week to week and day to day. If you are flexible in dates this could be a huge help.

Personally I would focus on staying within the main strip (not the Strat) mostly due to convenience. Sure we only spend minimal time in our room but do find that we go back/forth a few times and having to take a bus to get there would be a nuisance.

    Did you check Hooters?

yes i have those sites, thanks. I think i may go with excalibur but got flamingo for 179 for 3 nights so i may keep looking a bit, when you add the resort fee it's almost 100.

As for the poster before me I Didn't see the deals board yet, am fairly new, thanks.

I hope i did the right thing but i cancelled my booking at the strat which for 4 nights was 179 before resort fees and that includes a friday night.

I now booked @ new york new york for 68 plus fees for a total of 285 all fees in for 3 nights not including friday night.

I think we are going to drive down to the grand canyon for the weekend instead of staying in vegas.

good call. The Strat sits by itself. NYNY has Monte Carlo next door and MGM Grand, Excalibur and Tropicana across the road. There is also a free tram from MC to Aria and another from Excalibur to Luxor and Mandalay Bay.

I'm surprised Bally's is more than Flamingo. I've stayed there for $50 a night through hotels.com. As other pointed out, it's a great location, as good as any location. Even though I would prefer to stay in a fancy hotel I was actually fine with Bally's.

I'm sure it does, but it's not near any other places of interest. You'd spend a lot of time or money on the bus or cabs to get to something cool. You'd be better off at Flamingo or Excalibur because you can walk places.

I'd go with Heather's suggestions, Flamingo or Excalibur. Since this is your first trip to Vegas, you will not be able to resist the urge to walk, and walk, and walk:beer:
Walking from the Strat would not be pleasant, unless you are Chuck Norris. Rough, tough neighborhood. Scary even.
    Have fun!
