Early (7 AMish) , I was playing in the Four Queens and over the loudspeaker system there was a page for Mr. So and So. It had been years since I last heard someone being paged in a casino. Also I’ve noticed a few pay phones. I’m guessing they’re not being used by people calling to get a ride (car or taxi) back home!

Been forever! But this brings back memories of them paging Jackie Gaughan and the other execs at the Plaza!

That was probably me calling for my dad. He doesn’t use a cell phone so I have him paged in the casino when I need to reach him. Typically he is playing the silver strikers so I know where to find him! My uncles also play table games there so I’m bound to find one of them!

I truly cannot recall the last time I heard one in a casino. I do remember McCarran having ridiculous joke announcements (and now that I think about it, it's got slot machines, it might count!), though those have gone away.

When I worked in Vegas one of the pit bosses told me they used to have the PBX operators page famous people who weren't even there to drum up excitement in the casino. :wink2:

I hear them occasionally at our local Horseshoe. "Mr. Steve Smith please meet your party at the north security desk." and the like.

Of course there's that "Another legendary jackpot winner has been born ..." :)

Back in the 80s & early 90s, we used the casino paging systems all the time. The hotels were all OK with it, as you could call any strip casino floor using a house phone at any strip casino. There were no (portable) cell phones in those days, so that was how we'd track each other down.

We also had a few 'code-names' that signified to meet at a specific location. A call for 'Vince Vincent', for example, simply meant "I'm at the Stardust now".

I would be interested in knowing if the newer casinos even have these systems.

They do, it's a trivial part of the overall PA setup (not unlike the emergency announcements when the fire alarm is going off), but I've never heard them used for personal pages in a long, long time.

Occasionally at the airport I will pick up the courtesy phone and page “Johnny Wad to gate 69”. It almost always goes out. Yes I am mentally 12
