I like to think it starts with the planning since we are down to about 1 trip a year. It's the setting the countdown clock, the lurking on this board and soaking up all the info on what is new in the last year, the places I have missed (just found out there is a Miller's Ale house there!) Reading the yummy trip reports that everyone so nicely shares.
It's the laying around our pool all summer so I can get tan enough not to fry in the August Vegas sun. And all the boat drinks that goes along with pool time.
Mostly though it's my brother in law arriving at the house to pick us up for the airport with a bottle of champagne and a rebel yell that "vacation has started".

Same here too. I have a list of things I need to do around the house. A folder with my itnerary, a list of things my buddies and I would like to do, but never get it all done, and a list of things to get when I get there....

I'm a week out, and almost all packed, well by Saturday for sure!

    Can't focus on work.

When we see M Resort on the skyline. Even if we don't stop, it means that we can see the Strip in the distance and Wynncore is only 30 minutes (more or less) away. That gets the mood into a serious gear. Up until then it's just driving.

When I have my first drink from Mermaids in my hand. Usually about 10 minutes after I am checked in, wherever I am staying....

For me it is when I set my bags down in my room (in the bath tub with the lights on thanks to Dewey ). That is when I am no longer a traveler and I am now a drinking & gambling idiot.

For me, it's when I step out of baggage claim at McCarran into that dry desert heat! I'm typically coming from muggy, humid, often rainy, sometimes cold New England weather, and I never leave a climate controlled environment between stepping into Bradley Airport and stepping out of the baggage claim at McCarran, so it really slaps me in the face and makes me realize I've arrived. I don't even consider going to Vegas in the winter; for me, nothing makes a vacation like pools, sunshine, and dry heat! :D

When I head to the airport, although I don't start getting really excited until we get through security.

Mine starts when I arrive at the airport. I always fly out in the early morning from Columbus, Oh. I grab a coffee at Starbucks along w a scone and head towards the gate.

At this time I dont have to worry about work, the kids, the house, or anything else, I am in true vacation mode!

I have tried to embrace the flight the past few trips rather than dreading it as I used to.

For me it will have to be when I take my seat on the plane and turn on my ipod to my vegas playlist. At this point i feel like 1000 pounds is lifted off my chest.

Mine starts when I get in the car to go to the airport. Technically that is the big of my travel and my trip.

As soon as I get to the airport! But the pre-trip hype starts as soon as I book my flight.
