When you wake up day of departure?
    When you leave for airport?
    When you arrive at airport?
When you land in Las Vegas?
When you arrive at your hotel in Las Vegas?

For me, it's arriving at the airport. For one, that's usually when it sinks in that I'm on vacation. And two, that's when we start drinking. :evillaugh

The minute I get in the taxi outside my house , and know that after 20 hours of travelling , 13 of them in a plane I will be having a drink in a bar (any bar ) in the greatest place on earth.

I'd guess it would've been when we got through the Cajon Pass. Or maybe it was when we rounded the corner in Sloan. Or it might've been, and even with Sirius XM, CD-changer and an iPod synch, when we'd tune in that horrid trans-desert radio station. Crossing the Mojave in Victorville or maybe Barstow? Upon seeing the first CHPer ignoring the fact that we're on 80 in cruise control?

(Past tense owing to our relocation. Though the apres-Victorville route remains the same, we've added several hours getting to that point.)

For me, it's when my buddy calls me to let me know that he's outside my place. That means that it's time to start the four-hour drive from LA, and the drive to Vegas is one of my favorite things.

Looking forward to receiving that call in a few hours!

For me, it's as soon as we start the drive to the airport. For Mrs T it's when we are through security and relaxing in the lounge, enjoying the first pre-flight drink.

I generally start a timer when my foot hits the jetway in Vegas. So that's when my trip starts.

I stop it when I step on to the plane at the end.

There is a point where I snap out of travel mode and into Vegas mode. It almost always occurs right around the escalators that take you down to baggage claim. I’m done worrying about whether I remembered my cash or ID or phone charger. I don’t have to look over my shoulder to make sure Smokey hasn’t clocked me at extra-legal speeds. No more dealing with security or cranky travelers or crying babies. All is right with the world. That’s probably what I consider the beginning of my Vegas trip.

Good question. Mine starts the day that I leave. I generally leave in the evening on a 6ish PM direct flight from BWI (Baltimore Washington).

There is a good microbrewery in Baltimore called DuClaw, and a few years ago, they put up one pre-security right next to the Southwest Terminal Security gates. So it starts there. I have a nice juicy burger, kettle chips, and a couple Double IPAs or a beer sampler.

Of course there also is the feeling when you land in Vegas and you remember how close the strip is to the airport, or see it from the sky!

DuClaw in general is awesome..... Once they put it in BWI it was even sweeter :) Cheers to that

    Great thread

It actually starts the moment I decide to plan a trip. But, like shifter said, when I see the strip out the plane window, Yahoo!!!!

As soon as I leave work on the last day before the trip, it's an excuse to eat and drink.

I fly 100+ flights a year, so going to the airport makes me feel instinctively bad. So for me, it's seeing the strip outside of the window :).
