anyone ever notice the wheel from the sky but didnt know what it is...every trip from new orleans, southwest lines up to land, I have a right side window seat to see the strip coming in. I always see a giant wheel of fortune looking wheel just south of Lake Las Vegas.

decided to look on google maps and its listed as the "wheel of misfortune" so i looked at pics and someone painted an old water treatment tank which only has the top sticking out the ground...seems to be a place people go and tag and explore

That's part of an old mining operation. And the "wheel" is an old slurry tank for runoff. Probably not the safest place to explore

Crazy, I was just watching a video on youtube about that the other day. This guy has a couple cool videos of abandoned places in Vegas, and the underground tunnels.

makes sense next to the big hole mined out...I didnt search for what it was, when I clicked the name on google maps, they have reviews on it and someone said it was a treatment tank

I have never heard about this. I, too, always sit on the right side to view the fun up ahead. I'll have to pay more attention next trip.

Its just south of Lake Las Vegas. I see it almost every flight. From the air, it just looks like a wheel of fortune layout

Coming in from California on a plane, we don't get to see this, so thanks for the tip! Looks cool as shit.
Come to think of it...we've never been exploring out at Lake las Vegas.

Tim, go for it if that is your thing, but I personally don't think its as cool as you may think. To get to it, you have to trespass. And then, its basically just sarcastic graffiti art in an area that is contaminated. If you're wanting to do some exploring southeast of town, drive a bit farther and there is Lake Meade

I'm planning to check this out for myself. Not the coolest thing in the world, no doubt, but one of those things I have to see for myself, even in its faded glory. Read about it on Vital Vegas last year and decided to put it on my to-do list for the next trip.
