I thought I read somewhere last year or so that if you were visiting a hotel you weren't staying at, you no longer could park valet and they wanted you to park in their ramp garage?

I remember when we went last (2 years ago) we never had a problem. We stayed at MB - MB valet parked and got the car just fine everytime. If we wanted to go visit another hotel (Bellagio, for example), we'd pull into valet, they'd ask if we were staying there - I'd say no, but another MGM property and say MB and they'd take the car just fine. I was always sure to tip on drop off and pickup tough.

Has this changed or ?

I've never had that experience. They are perfectly glad to charge you for valet. However, if you've checked by valet at another "family" property, it's my experience that you aren't charged or are charged at a lower rate.

I don't think I've ever even been asked by the Valet people what hotel I'm staying in.

I think they asked in case we were staying there and need help with bags or directions to front desk maybe? It was never in a mean way or anything.

Maybe that's what I was reading - that they would start charging for parking. Kinda makes me question having had gotten a car this year. For the difference $$ between self park and valet on that list; probably keep parking valet and assume $20 worst case every time we pull the car and go out for the night.

Is valet / parking at the hotel your staying at still free (a part of the resort fee?) or no? Cause now we're talking $40 each time u pull the car and that's not cool.

No, parking is not included in the resort fee, either self-parking or valet. I believe you pay when you pick up your car from the valet at the desk or kiosk. If you're staying at the hotel, they will charge the parking fee to your room and you enter/exit with your room key.

If you have a players card with any of these hotels and are at a decent level, they will waive the parking fees. You swipe your slot card on the way out.

MGM -
  • Self-parking is complimentary* for Pearl, Gold, Platinum and NOIR M life Rewards Members
  • Valet-parking is complimentary* for Gold, Platinum and NOIR M life Rewards Members
CET -
  • Valet is complimentary for Total Rewards members at the Platinum, Diamond and Seven Stars levels.
Cosmo -
  • Valet parking is complimentary for Gold status or higher, subject to availability. Must have Identity card present.

That's ridiculous you can't park at your own hotel for free. I get it - parking at a hotel in Chicago is $80 / day - but in Chicago, your generally not spending more money at the hotel then you need to (late night drink at the bar or such) where LV - your probably going to go see a show, gamble or drink.

Now I gotta cancel the car - not spending $400 on a car for the week and $20-$40 every day to park and take it out. I'll walk it - we're young(ish) lol

Thanks for all the info Sonya

I never understood renting a car in Vegas. I uber fron the airport to my resort then use the various transportation options to get around.

With Uber, Monorail, The Deuce, and the many free trams, a car is pointless in Vegas.

On top of that, I don't want to sober up just to drive between resorts.

I drive to Vegas. Bet even when I flew, I liked having a car. I like to visit outlying properties and I also like to spend some time outside the casino. (Gasp! I confess that I'm not a true degen.) I like a day trip to some of the amazing desert scenery. A little fresh air and sunshine is good for you.

On my last trip I took a day out to Valley of Fire. The night before was crazy with friends so I got a late start but it was refreshing to go out and hike and see the sights. Kind of felt like a mini-detox. ;) Got back to the room, took a shower and lounged a bit and then the "Where do we want to eat dinner" texts came in and I was ready to go again.

I was thinking I'd just fly for my next trip but I'd really miss having that option to go exploring while friends were passed out at the pool.

I frequently drive to Vegas, although the car pretty much stays parked after I get checked in. These new parking fees may spell the death of me driving there.

when did they start charging for parking? i guess i haven't had a car in Vegas for about 5 years now. i never would have guessed casinos would charge for self park or valet. crazy

I believe mLife started around a year ago. CET started this year. Everyone kept advising people to park at CET & walk to their mLife prop. Then as soon as CET announced it was 'park at Cosmo & walk to Aria, Bellagio, Paris etc'. Was very short time before Cosmo announced. CET was actually interviewing people at their parking facilities when they arrived last summer as to if they were a guest, member etc.

This makes me feel better - I missed this in Sonya's post

http://mgmresorts.com/parking/

"Your parking fee provides you with in-out privileges within the same parking type (self or valet) across all MGM Resorts destinations (subject to availability)"

Ok - so worst case scenario - $18 (valet) / day for parking - "with in-out privileges" - so - (example) arrive at MB day 1, pay for valet ($18) - go do the whole pool thing, etc... dinner rolls around - pull the car, go park at Bellagio - dinner / show / whatever - pull the car, go back to MB (sleep) - just $18 for the day - ie: not being charged every time the car gets pulled / parked regardless of the hotel, just per day based on valet or self parking price.

Right? hahaha
