The old Boardwalk, where I hit my first Vegas royal flush and got my first handpay. Downtown the old Horseshoe when Benny was still around. It really had an old school atmoshphere, which I loved. I even walked through when they were playing the WSOP there (you could do that then). Saw the actor Wilfred Brimley playing.

The Desert Inn for me. I love Wynn, but I miss the Desert Inn.

And the Aladdin, Dunes and Sands. Together with the Desert Inn and Flamingo and Caesar’s, those places were the original “old Vegas” I loved.

I gotta give a shout out to the old Slots-O-Fun. $1 Becks, Heineken and Coronas. Standing 4 deep at the bar waving a $20 trying to get the barkeeps attention.

    1) The Stardust - first trip in 1994, started this crazy love affair with the American desert. Loved that place so damn much. So many awesome memories there. I also miss the North End of the strip being alive..

    2) The Desert Inn - if you were ever there, no need to explain - if you weren't I cant.

    3) The Riviera - yes, I got robbed there, (inside job) Yes, it was an abject disaster for it's last 10 years of existence...But the people watching and degeneracy in that place in the 1990's was welll worth the cost of admission.. So much scumbaggery, and just all out low lifery - for a low rolling single dude in his 20's, the Riv had it all; Cheap rooms, cheaper women, loose slots, cheap tables..It was grand.

    4) The Sahara - again, a shitshow during it's last few years, and kinda sad, but back when I first started travelling to Nevada, it was still cool, and pretty busy.

Reno to Las Vegas...and other places in between..

Does anyone remember the Silver Slipper? Our favorite late night dive bar gambling when we were younger. We saw some really strange people in there (strange even by Vegas strange standards). They closed it and put up a parking lot.

Not “paradise,” but reminds me of Big Yellow Taxi lyrics-

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
    'Till it's gone
    They paved paradise
And put up a parking lot.

or a new casino, with resort fees...............

It was gone before I got there. I DO remember the Silver Dollar Casino, though.

-The Monte Carlo before it killed itself by tearing out the brew pub and changing the favorable blackjack rules. They had three tables for the longest time that had the best game on The Strip.
-Casino Royale (yes, I know the "shell" of it is still there) before it killed itself by taking out the craps tub and their other craps tables. Loved that tub.
-Las Vegas Club before they too messed up their "World's Most Liberal Blackjack Rules" game.

Are you catching my theme here? Hey casino execs, are you hearing what I'm saying? lol

I miss the Montecito Resort & Casino. Great staff. Never actually step foot on it but I've seen it several times.:D

Lucky Dragon? nah. Maybe Riviera since it's the only one that I can remember I've visited more than once before it was shut down/imploded.

Two “dive” places on Flamingo, Key Largo and Bourbon Street. Both had their share of interesting clientele, but I remember one afternoon when I was playing VP at Bourbon Street, where they had an X rated hypnotist doing his act behind thick vinyl curtains. Unfortunately the sound was not muffled, and most of this guy’s act was full of the F, MF and GD phraseology, which is why he was at BS and not on the Strip. Sometimes I have to remember crappy places like that to appreciate the ones I like.
