    Heynow Gambler Types :):):)

First trip to NOLA and will likley be staying at Harrah's ( unless anybody has a better reccomendation) and no idea what to expect both hotel wise and casino wise.

    Are the rooms nice ?

    Are drinks comped ?

Are the machines true RNG machines or are they based on the lottery system like here in Washington at the Native American Casinos ?

I know there is no sports betting but is there a horse OTB ?

Any tips or info gladly accepted.

    Thanks

Not sure on rooms, haven't stayed there personally.

    Comped booze in Louisiana.

    "Vegas Style" VP in Louisiana.

Doubt there is an OTB on actual property. The only places I've seen these bets available at casinos outside of Vegas are at racinos.

Also another big thing to note, the casino is also non-smoking.

Rooms are nice and good sized at Harrahs. Drinks are comped. I think Diamond and 7* can get better drinks though. RNG machines as far as I know. I don't think there is an OTB. I think fairgrounds might be the closest place to bet the ponies.

It's walking distance to the French quarter which is a nice advantage to staying there. It's non smoking except for the outside area with machines they have added. Casino has a good mix of slots. Not enough VP variety for my tastes though.

    Are the rooms nice ?

They were when I was there five years ago, but IIRC there were premium and deluxe classes so some rooms may be in lesser condition than others.

    Are drinks comped ?

Yes, but you do have to register play for the alcoholic options to come up in the drink menu. They have the slot readers where you can order by touchscreen.

Are the machines true RNG machines or are they based on the lottery system like here in Washington at rhe Native American Casinos ?

    True RNG.

I knos there is no sports betting but is there a horse OTB ?

Not at the casino. Not into that so I don't know if there is one in the area.

Take a bus tour - it's worth it.
Budget for spending cash on food outside of the casino. They try to offer alot on property but it doesn't compare to what you can find in local restaurants.
Bring your walking shoes as there is lots to see within walking distance of the casino.

they are currently working on the outside entrance to the 2nd floor and another smoking section at the moment, its not just the casino that is smoke free, its just about every establishment in NOLA

The NOLA Harrahs is pretty awesome! Went there for the first time in January. Its super close to the French Quarter and very close to many downtown museums (WW2 Museum is awesome i'd recommend checking it out). The rooms are nice, clean and updated. The Casino is big, no smoking throughout and drinks are comp'd when gambling. The Diamond Lounge stinks in my opinion. you get free drinks there however you are limited on the amount and there is not too much seating in the DL.
    Safe Travels!

Yep... what they said. Rooms are on the nicer side... across the street from Casino. Large casino.. small Diamond Lounge.
1:1 food at Besh Steakhouse, Buffet and Mannings (sports bar down the street).

And yes, go to WWII museum if you can - about a 6 block walk.

Typing from Harrah's Nola before heading out for the French Quarter Fest, which is like Jazz Fest for local folks. Room on the 12th floor is the basic and still is nice, and has a riverview. Try for higher floors on check in as the neighboring hotels can limit the sights you can see.
Didn't notice a mention of when you were planning to visit, but summers can be brutal, it is the heat and the humidity, which is a shame as part of the appeal of Nola is how easy it is to walk to most of the attractions. Something to do for almost anyone, beyond the games of chance.

We will be there Easter Sunday or Monday......taking back roads down from Baltimore leaving Friday the 14th, so more likely Monday.

Pretty excited, never been to NOLA or any part of the South really.

The hotel is rated the best in CETs catalog. Premium means a river view and deluxe a town view. Right next to the French Quarter so make a hour or two walk of the area, WWII museum is a full afternoon plus and along with the other things Dr Nostrom has there is also an Aquarium right across from Harrahs by the river. Drinks and great food well worth going, as we are ovver Memorial Weekend.................Rick

Aced out of a room, too late to get a reservation.

Went and played for two or three hours @ the VP bar in the poker room. Poor pay tables, but played max quarters for a couple hours.

Enjoyed the smoke free casino.........bartender was just lame, seeming oy nice guy but slow as molasses and zero interaction. Did manage to put in a hundy and play tow plus hours of Deuces, get five bad beers ( no selection) and walk with $85.00. Hit several 4OAKS and two deuces royals.

Oh...I know....I also played the virtual BJ game with the woman dealing. I was doing well, up maybe forty five dollars on a forty dollar buy in......6:5, but the rest of the rules were OK. I was up quite a bit more until I lost a split pair of aces with like a fifteen and a forteen against a dealer showing a three......and then same thing on a pair of eights against a dealer five.

LOved NOLA....would go back in a heartbeat.
