Yes, it was just a reveal of the lit Circa sign. Guess may have been something if you were in the room, but not worth a wait on the live stream.

Well, “Circa” checks all the boxes:

    Inoffensive? Check.

    Easy to say? Check.

Easily distinguishable from competitors? Check — Circus Circus is somewhat similar but that error is unlikely to happen very often. If the Stevens have trouble with people booking Circus Circus when they mean to book Circa, they have bigger problems than the name.

    Pleasing to the ear? Check.

    Banal as hell? Check.

Something like this is what I expected — a name that in no way relates to the actual thing itself. It’s dumb, but it’s fine. Once it exists, the name will roll off everyone’s tongue like Plaza or Four Queens. Folks can now commence discussing more interesting things, like that sports book.

I assume it’s pronounced the English way (SIR-ka). I think I’ll pronounce it the Italian way (CHEER-ka) to make it sound swankier.

Now if we organize a slot pull in 2020 at the new Stevens casino, will it be officially dubbed "the circa jerk"?

We need to open a book on which of Circa or Resorts World opens first.

RW have a headstart as they've got some concrete going up, but they have a bigger building and a larger plot to landscape.

Really funny for us because my wife's cousin is building a two story garage that we have begun calling the garage mahal. He has been building for years now. Maybe five?

I like the name and the video @shokhead posted.

Well, not a fan of the name, but I love the renderings.... I will try to be there for the opening, whenever that actually happens.
Hopefully, "One Card" holders will be courted & offered some early comps!

I suspect they will be targeting people who don't normally visit Downtown rather than us existing patrons of GG and The D.

Well, I don't think so, and I will mention that to Derek Stevens when I see him in a couple of weeks. "I hope that you take care of the people that got you here", or something like that.

    That shit looks badass!
If it’s true, Itd literally smash all other downtown properties..but of course it’d have to have “strip prices” to pay for itself l

    Passenger: this isn’t Harrah’s!
Taxi Driver: I thought you said Paris!

I think that anyone who meets or sees Derek Stevens mentions that he should consider the patrons that got him this far . . . .

I'm guessing all of us thought Circus Circus when we saw the name. But I don't think it will be confusing because I think nobody shortens Circus Circus to "Circus."

Well, damn. This was a lot to take in. When I saw "Circa" I was on the fence about it, and then the puns started rolling in. "Circa Circa", losing all your money is called "getting Circamcized"...and I see I'm not alone here. But the more I think about the name, the more "classic" it feels to me and I get what they're trying to say with it.

After all is said and done and after watching the intro video, I think I like it. I've been keeping my fingers crossed that there would be some kind of nod to vintage Vegas and they seem to have heard this call from the masses.

The horizontal lines of light on the tower are a nice homage to the Stardust. The style of scripting in their name's letters and the use of rapidly flashing lights is a nice throwback to the neon era also, which most new joints tend to ignore in their rush to be as modern as possible. It looks like Circa is designed to be modern while also trying to fit in with the vintage vibe that downtown is traditionally known for.

I couldn't help notice those large hanging circular light fixtures in the casino. The same style of lighting that The Desert Inn had in the 70's. Just watch an episode of Vega$ with Robert Urich and you'll see them. That made me smile.

I agree that downtown is "underpooled" so Circa will be a hotspot for poolers. The 3 story sports book might be a bit overkill but it will be the definitive destination for sports betting downtown, and thank goodness it's not another cookie cutter William Hill book.

As for their claims of old school service that hearkens back to the old Vegas when the mob ran the show, that's going to take some genuine effort. It won't come cheap, either. This won't be a budget destination and I wouldn't look for full pay VP or 3:2 $5 single deck blackjack anywhere, but I'm hoping for a pleasant surprise here and there.

I'll probably get my first look in January 2021 and I'll be staying at a much cheaper hotel, but all in all Circa looks like a nice addition to downtown.
