I don't really vacation except for Vegas and I do it differently than most people but the vacation in the show White Lotus on HBO MAX was so weird to me.

Is that what people do in Hawaii? What kind of vacation is that? Seems like they mostly hang out at the pool instead of the beach, read books, and eat at the same place! Where are the slots and other games?

NO SPOILERS PLEASE. Who am I kidding, do not read this if you plan on seeing the show which is very interesting and not exactly for everyone. You've been warned.

I enjoyed White Lotus. Not a great show but solid.

Hey! That’s my kind of vacation! With my family (wife, 2 kids) I do a 8-13 day resort vacation once a year at least. I just want to sleep in a nice room, be around the pool or in the pool, stuff my face 6 times a day and drink until I’m buzzed, and do nothing. I barely move.

I come home extremely relaxed after a vacation like that.

Ha, fun fact, Hawai'i is one of only a couple states that has basically no legal gambling whatsoever (the other one is Utah, which is unsurprising). When I read that they were playing with the idea of legalizing sports wagering, I did a double-take.

It’s supposed to be some island for super rich people (to me anyways). Why is the tech company CEO in a one bedroom with a high schooler and two college students in the living room/galley? They can’t afford a two or three bedroom?

It was shot at some Four Seasons resort but I don’t know how much of the real resort is supposed to match the White Lotus. I’m really spoiled by Vegas. You can really have a cheap vacation and there is so much all in one place. You need a vacation from a Vegas vacation.

    "some four seasons" :haha:

It was shot at the Four Seasons Maui. It was closed for a time, due to COVID and they took advantage to shoot the show.

There is no one way to "do Vegas", and there is no one way to "do Hawaii". Everyone has different preferences.

There are lots of resorts that are all inclusive, where your room, 3 meals a day, drinks and some activities are included in the price.

I will admit that I have never understood the idea of being in the pool, just a few feet away from the actual ocean, but maybe I'm a weirdo.

I have done an all inclusive in Mexico. It was okay, but I wanted to wander further than the boundaries of the property and the people I was with wanted the "free" food at the resort. I prefer not to book my travel that way.

They did the same thing with "Love Island" at Cromwell. I just hope they gave the place a thorough scrubbing.

When I was younger, we'd do family vacations to Hawaii, it was fun! Pool time, horse back riding, hiking, and eating more local food at dinner time. It was great!

I'm not a pool person, but I do like hanging out by the pool and swimming.

There's more to vacations than gambling and casinos, that's for sure.

First, I loved The White Lotus. Only TV show I've ever seen that had a scene where I literally dropped my jaw.
Second, I'm done with sand. I'll take a pool any day. I appreciate the beach, remember how I loved the beach but don't want to deal with the sand coating me anymore. I'll take the pool.
Family vacations? I wouldn't know about that. We never had one. My first vacation was to Hedonism in Jamaica when I was 22. I had a good time. :wink2:

Oh man, I hate the beach. Sand is like glitter -- it gets everywhere and sticks around for way longer than it should.

Yeah, I’m always by the pool, ideally with an ocean view :D but I don’t like sand and I don’t like the sea.
