My great niece got her heart broken yesterday. Her little boyfriend she has had all summer broke up with her and she is taking it hard. Felt so bad for her. I've never had kids so not sure what a kid her age would enjoy but was thinking of taking her out for some fun. Was hoping some of the parents here had some ideas. Was thinking of Chuck e cheese or similar?

Roller skating? A movie like Lion King? Take her and her girl friend(s) out to Dairy Queen?

Yes, get her out! Get her mind off of of things. Roller skating and a movie are good immersion things to hold the attention. Food, junk food :) is comfort food. Sometimes blowing a diet is good for the mental health! :)

When my wife gets upset, I comfort her and then I give her money. I don't know if that translates to little girls though.

Take her out to lunch ( maybe a nicer, more grown up place than she would normally go so you can talk to her ) and then do some back to school shopping.

My advice? Get her two passes to the local water-park or amusement park (for her & a friend), and volunteer to drop them off & pick them up when they're ready.

Just get her busy! Any of the above. Had 2 girls. At that age, they forget pretty fast. A couple of days of hanging with other friends seem to forget all about what's his name.

My neighbor has two tweens. I just asked her what she'd do, and this was one of her suggestions, too.

+1 on cowabunga bay or wet & wild. My kids are around that age and love those places. They have discounts on their websites and sometimes Groupon. Fun for adults too, and a great place to be when it's 115 degrees.

"Chuck E Cheese" is a bit too baby like for an 11 year old. "Dave & Buster's" is probably the more appropriate arcade.

Thanks everyone. she's a bit better today but with two brothers and three sisters she could use the extra attention. :)

This a million percent. If you are close to an amusement park or water park, @topcard nailed it. I'm a female, at 11? These are probably the two options that could distract me.

But, those can be pricey. Another thing I loved was if someone took me shopping...mall, TJ max, whatever. Give a set amount of money, a $10 (if that buys anything anymore) a $20, and let her hunt for a gem. She'll be focused on hunting. You can then hit something for cheap but fun food after.

First MGM stay...I keep hearing the Jeopardy! timer in my head!
