What drink do you get comped - exactly?

Can you generally get this comped anywhere, even a VP bar downtown?

Mini rant ...... I normally drink a cocktail of my own design, a riff on a Cosmo. Instead of vodka I use Patron tequila, so it's Patron, Grand Marnier, splash of cranberry, in a martini glass, straight up with a lemon twist. When we stayed at MGM Grand in July, I went to the renamed Lobby Bar for some VP, a drink and a smoke. (Don't judge) Asked for a drink and was told it couldn't be comped - not for the liquor but the glass !!! IF I switched to Don Julio tequila AND got it in a rocks glass, it could be comped. Nothing in a martini glass can be comped, according to multiple bartenders. (And I *loathe* those effing vouchers.) So, it was either Heineken in a bottle or a Bloody Maria up in a rocks glass for the rest of the trip.

We're at the Mandalay Bay for Thanksgiving. Will be interesting to see if I can get My Cocktail My Way. I can live with the Don Julio, but I want my Martini Glass, dammit !! :p (Going to play at Cosmopolitan while we're there. I hear they'll comp even their specialty Martinis)

I went to Mandalay 3 months ago, and the drink service was both sparse and stingy. I hope you have better luck. It was typical to wait an hour while playing slots for a drink. I became so irritated that I bought some beer in the shops inside the casino, which are slightly less expensive than the bar.

I noticed very few Margaritas. My go to drink is a Cadillac margarita - top shelf tequila and grand marnier. My favorite is at Aria, second at Bellagio. Once you get to the NYNY/MC levels, the Cadillac margaritas become sprite and a dash of Jose, so I have to switch to beer - IPA of course.

I'm a simple guy. Tito's Rocks or Ketel One Rocks or Anything But Smirnoff / Popoff / Gordon's Rocks. Hard to screw up by anyone, not that there haven't been exceptions.

The Linq offers the best comp drinks. Venetian treats you nicely if you're cool with the bartender. With how many trips I make out there, the bartenders there recognize me -- kinda scary lol! I've definitely acted a little...well...not safe for work at the bar.
