I'm a Director at my company so I don't want too much of my personal life spilling into the depths of imagination...lol so I make it sound like I'm there just to see shows and people watch. Little do they know, I'm the one that people watch.

My response to "Why are you going to Vegas?" or "What you gonna do in Vegas?" is always...

    "Hookers and blow."

That typically draws a laugh and ends the questions. :)

Don't have coworkers, but I get it from friends and family and sometimes from my husband.

You could say you're having a "medical procedure" knowing it means an infusion of Vegas-y good times! Plus, when you're back at work with post-Vegas Depression Syndrome, they will go easy on you instead of giving you a hard time. ;)

Considering Vegas was all I ever talked about, they pretty much knew.

Hahahah.... I'm leaving Sunday for Vegas. I've only told a few people, because of the reasons stated in this thread.

People just don't get it. How can you be so happy by yourself?

As suggested earlier -- It must be hookers and blow.

My coworker ask me when my next Vegas trip will occur. They know I go a lot.

We're famous for being Vegas fans, so we readily fess up. The most common response is "Wish I was going." Occasionally we'll be asked, "Don't you guys go anywhere else?" No negatives.

Well I'm retired now so I don't get that anymore, but my co-workers then were split 50-50 between those who were interested and those who looked disapproving. I always laughed at people who couldn't understand why we went so often to the same place. These were the folks who every summer plonked their trailer down the same place every July for 2 weeks.:rolleyes2:

I usually split my vacation Vegas/Los Angeles so I just tell people the truth that it is cheaper to fly into Vegas and rent a car for the week than going to LAX and renting there and gives me a quick visit to Vegas. Vegas has a weird reputation say you're going there for a day or two and no one bats an eye. Say you're going for 2 weeks and everyone assumes you are some sort of crazed degenerate with a gambling problem while the opposite is most likely true.

My husband had to lie all the time, one time one of his bosses was sitting on the freaking plane when we left, but it was going to a stop so he didn't know our final destination. Another time we ran into another co-worker. He says he's going out west to visit family, beach that is where we are from. It's West at least. :)

I don't have coworkers but I have customers/clients (my own business). And while I let people know about a third of the time that I'm going away (longer than a week or so)

I try to sneak away most of the time....answering emails while I'm away and taking care of things as soon as I get home. Anything under a week I can sneak away for, of its longer than a week I put an announcement that I have personal things to take care of for a few days

Thanks for such great feedback all! I was grinning over all of these. Like I said, I really like my coworkers, they just don't "get" Vegas. This string made my day though, and you all had great advice....thank you!!!

I'll give the pouty one your home number Breeze...then he can call you personally and either be on a soap box about "Lost wages", or pout/huff and puff when you're cryptic and won't say where you're going.

Oh wait, lucky you, no number, so you're off the hook!:wink2::p

Seriously though, you all had great strings, thank you!!!!

Yes so true, people have such a strong reaction when it comes to Vegas. A lot very positive, but sometimes very negative as well, almost rude even. You do get positive feedback on other holiday destinations, but people don't usually say flat out what a horrible choice of destination they think Paris, New York or London is, or ask what would anyone like about it and what (in hell) are you going to do there (with a look of disgust on their face). But with Vegas you get that reaction quite a lot. Fortunately not from my coworkers though.

Many of our bosses don't even tell people that they will be away. They usually just send out an email that they will be away from this date to that date and who to contact if they need assistance.

IMHO, if you feel uncomfortable you don't have to tell them where you are going, just say that you will be on vacation.

Last resort response to the nosy people who seem to judge everyone......."none of your damn business". While my office has some nosy people I never had to give that response yet.

Owning a business it is hard to tell employees no matter where you go there is always at least one that makes a comment about not getting a raise because of my vacation. If some new I was going to vegas they would have a bird. We took less than 10 days this year not including holidays. Plus my wife took 5 off for a mission trip.

But have you ever unexpectedly run into co-workers (LOL, or relatives) in Las Vegas? (Yes, it has happened to me.)

Ironically, most of my friends that give me some good natured gruff about going to Vegas three times a year also ask me to make some sports book wagers for them. My last trip in July I made 23 bets for 16 different people back home.

Almost everybody in Hawaii goes to Vegas. The few that don't are stupid.
