I'm grateful for the courage of my elderly mom that's in the hospital right now fighting her illness.

I'm grateful that I'm temporarily laid off so I can be with her.

I'm grateful that I can reinforce love for each other and the importance of family during trying times.

ELECTRICITY!!! Power went out last night around 7pm and was out for the better part of 24 hours. No computers, no heat, no running water (We're on well water), no stove, no Keurig, no tv/Olympics....

I did finally crack open the first book of Game of Thrones and put quite a dent into it, once the kindle battery died.

I can relate to that one! I was without electricity for 48 hours in December and my place is total electric.

I'm so sorry Electro. I hope your mom gets better quickly, and while being laid off is hard, I love that it came at a time when you need the extra time to take care of your mother. I know having you near is a huge help for her, whether or not she can voice it

We have been here for 15 years. Our longest outage was almost 5 full days. That was terrible. At one point, we were filling 5 gallon buckets from Puget Sound to flush our toilets.

There is no gas service here, but some people have propane stoves and truck in the gas. We have a wood stove in the basement and can keep the rec. room/Dan's office down there 70 degrees. We can even cook on the top of the stove. But not having computers, tv and water make me a little crazy.

Every time we have an outage over 24 hours, I talk about moving to a new house closer to civilization. Then I remember moving sucks too. :goofy:

New house. New house. New house. :D
I agree, moving and unpacking and all the aggravation that comes with getting a new
place is annoying. But you gotta have your reliable electricity and water, girl!

Just looked to see if I have the chili ingredients I need to make dinner. Bingo! :feedme:
And yes, beans are involved in the making of this culinary sacrilege.

Just went 4 or 5 days w/o power down here in September.(Hurricane Irma) but got by fairly well.Battery operated TV people use in RV's,Used my cell phone as a hotspot for a small notebook and would recharge the devices with a Stanley power station that I would charge from the car every few hours. Was heaven one night when I hear a noise outside that I thought was someone's generator starting up,but was my own AC unit.. Ahh it's over!! Have never lost water through a few hurricanes but am prepared for that also,I'd say that is more important overall.

I guess in context, that while we can all sit here and find no end of things to whine about regarding vacation, we all have it pretty damn good.

Hopefully we're all grateful for friends, family, loved ones, health that might not be perfect but allows us to indulge in things like Vegas, bank accounts that might not be Knox-ian but allow us to indulge in things like Vegas. Sure beats what the vast majority of humanity confronts every single day.

I am grateful for a wonderful husband of 53 years(we still like each other after all these years and laugh with and at each other daily). Two great self sufficient children. Our two basset fur babies that keep us going by demanding things like daily walks and belly rubs. Also I am very glad we retired 20 years ago and have enjoyed it in good health. The 2-3 trips to Vegas a year are the cherry on top of the sundae.

Just kidding with you about a new place, @Sonya.
Home is where the heart is, no matter what.

Also for being fortunate to be gainfully employed most of my adult life, and being financially secure. I REALLY feel for those living paycheck to paycheck, let alone those who don't have that paycheck to live to!

I'm grateful for this Coke Zero keeping me awake in class after a day of work. I guess that means I'm also grateful for being able to go to school. And grateful school is close to work so it doesn't impact my schedule much.
