Perhaps I was exaggerating a little for comic effect. But honestly, I don't walk anywhere. I took a cab from Monte Carlo to MGM this past trip. Of course it was 100 and my wife was dressed up...so that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

Iam stopping in Downtown this time so thanks for the advice regarding night time there, in my previous two trips have stopped on the Strip and always felt safe at night when stuck to the Strip Hotels and bars.

And I echo the advice about not walking anywhere round north end of the Strip around The STRAT area, I myself will be getting a cab between Downtown and the Strip at night.

Agreeed if ya coming from the strip. But if ya are at the any of the 3 houses its a short walk between the 3. If ya dont want to cross the street( if going to the Palms) the other 2 are just a stones throw from eachother.

And i also agree with dmr. Thats pretty accurate as well.

Actually I would edit that. It should be safe to walk to Ellis Island during the day time. I wouldn't recommend walking to Ellis Island at night. As others have said, stick to the main strip and downtown areas and avoid walking away from those areas. Ellis Island is not in a high traffic area (walking) so I would avoid the walk at night. That's JMHO though.

On our trip before this last one, we walked out the back door of Bally's one night for the quick, safe walk to EI we had heard about. It wasn't as short as I thought, quite deserted, and I wasn't feeling comfortable. After five minutes or so we turned around and went back to the strip.

If you want to hit the Gold Coast, Palms and Rio there is a free shuttle from the side of Bills to Gold Coast (and Orleans) that runs until midnight and I believe there is also a shuttle between some of Harrah's/Caesars properties on the strip and the Rio.

I've done the walk to EI at night, but I still agree. If you're really worried about safety it can be a bit unnerving, particularly solo.

DMR is spot on with the comment about the area surrounding Stratosphere . Aztec Inn's parking lot (across the street) is not a drug free zone! The casino is a great place to people watch while drinking beer and playing video poker but VERY sad. As I recall, you had to have a key to the restroom, this inside a casino!

Yes. Be very careful of the dealers and machines in the hotel. They will try to rob you.

I was there the end of August.

I'm usually careful about making sure I leave with everything I packed in.

I came home and serveral hundred dollars were missing.

I guess I'll have to go back soon and see if I can bring it back home.

Stay in the tourist areas. Take a cab or a shuttle from the Strip to places like Rio. And have fun!

Take a cab to and from any strip club. The areas around any of them are not friendly to foot traffic.

I echo what a lot of the others have already said. Pretty much listen to your inner senses and use common sense. If you feel uneasy in any way - avoid like the plague.

    Have a great, safe trip!
