We like to have the room cleaned / beds made every day.
Love coming back to a clean room.

    Totally get that.

On the other hand, we don't like hanging out in a room that needs cleaning - so we make the bed when we get up and hang up towels and use trash can - so we always do the DND.

Not saying one way is better than the other.

Well, I guess I’d better expect that as I’m checking into MB tomorrow and I’ve already declined housekeeping, when I did my online check-in!

I would always ask them, nicely through the door, to come back about 6:30pm, and they always replied in the affirmative.

At the time, when they did the "inspection", they would use the room phone and phone in an "all OK" code. One night I looped the phone cable so I would know if it was used. When I came back at 0-dark-30 it was in the same place, and I figured that the evidence of a live body in the room, as in me asking them to come back later, was good for the day.

They can get that info from the door locks. They can sit at the comfort of their desks and see exactly who opened the door at what time.

This is for some other reason. I had one dt 3 years ago. Knocked on the door, I think it was security and a cop if I remember. Did not even peek in room. "Just wanted to make sure everything is okay". I wasn't even there for 24hrs!

Probably hoping to make people feel safe. I would assume.

I can clearly remember, at the old IP, a hotel security guy going down the hallway and testing any door that did not appear to be securely latched.

That is surprisingly reasonable and something security should probably do...assuming they actually are security and close the doors tightly. I know I've had rooms in Vegas where the door wouldn't close all the way unless you yanked it closed.

Pro tip: YANK YOUR DOOR! They don't always secure themselves.

Could you imagine laying in bed, drifting off to sleep, then you hear someone yank your door closed.

Once upon a time in my early days of Vegas, I was walking to my room from the elevator at Imperial Palace and so many room doors were not fully closed. I was new to traveling as well at that point and wondered what I was not understanding.

Best Vegas advice I have heard in a long time.
2nd best was to avoid Circus Circus. :p
