    My Trip Report

had dinner with our good friends, who made a quick trip to las vegas on jan 6 and returned on jan 8, last night. they had some views of las vegas that differ from us regulars, since they had not been there for over twenty years!

they arrived early afternoon on the 6th, and flew out early morning on the 8th, so really only had 36 hours or so in town, really tight schedule, but they did their best, and had air miles from an amex card which made their airfare only 35 dollars in fees! they booked the excalibur on line, 69 first night, over 100 the second night, due to the CES show starting. in bed by 11 each night, due to the tiredness from flying in the first night, and the early flight coming up the next day. okay, its their story, they can give whatever reason they want.

seems they spent a lot of time at Mandalay Bay, and the bellagio, went nuts over the conservatory at bellagio, spent a couple hours in the fontana lounge, which we had recommended, and they caught a great band and had a wonderful time.

they spent some time in the forum shops, so they are actually one ahead of us there, since we havent been there since the remodel was finished. very impressed by cartier, etc. though i got the impression that the husband was more impressed by the 450 dollar lingerie set in one of the lingerie shops, no she would not let him buy it for her.

the bar at times square, before they had to leave because it was booked for a private function, red square at mandalay bay, and rumjungle also were mentioned very favorably! they were first in line when red square opened, so got stools at the ice bar, had some special only in las vegas concoctions, great people watching. at rumjungle, they again just had drinks, the facility also was being closed to the public later for a private function for the adult entertainment convention. their treat there was seeing many of the stars who would be at that private function coming in early to eat. dress was described as strategically placed strips of black cloth.

they were also first in place to see the sirens show at ti. very pleased with themselves, and impressed with the special effects, as well as with the cast of the show. 38 degrees and diving into water probably would perk things up!

we have been talking about a trip with them for a few years, it looks like they have the itch. they did not make it down to the venetian, or to fremont street, or the Monte Carlo brew pub. the fancy places they drank at surprised me, but they were living it up for their short time there! so we have lots of places to go when we do get a joint trip together, and many things they did not get crossed off their list.

they ate breakfast at il forniao at nyny, said nyny was one of their favorite casinos, and dinner buffets at mandalay bay and the bellagio, so again they went for the high end. marveled at the meats selection at the bellagio, and the dessert selections and service at mandalay bay.

anyway, had a wonderful get away from home trip for too short a period, very impressed with everything but the porn slappers and some of the taxi drivers. exceedingly complimentary of all the hotel, bartending and cocktail personnel they met, and they watch for that sort of thing. itch is there to do it again, like with all of us.
