Venetian/Palazzo - Ruby Suite Upgrade Question

I made it to Ruby this year for the first time and have my upcoming stay. One of the benefits of Ruby is

• Complimentary upgrade, subject to availability

What are the proper expectations for what an upgrade looks like? I'd love to hear the experiences of others. The "best" room I've stayed in so far has been the standard king with a strip view at Palazzo. Does the upgrade happen automatically at check in or is it something I'll need to ask for?

And are there any other Ruby tricks I should know of as I prepare for this trip?

They might promise you a suite upgrade but since all venetian /Palazzo rooms are loosely categorized as "suites" you aren't really getting much

They might give you a Sphere view on a higher floor
Could ask for a grand one bedroom suite. Nice enough but lots of wasted space though in my opinion

Beyond that, it would take significant play to get the executive suites

I'm diamond at V/P and I've never gotten an upgrade. Though once during COVID I tipped the front desk $20 and I got free Prestige Lounge access but nothing since then.

What is the prestige lounge like? I've actually never been there
I just grab a drink or two from the vip checkin lounge

Prestige lounge is nicer and it was only that one time - and I got it not based on my play but on tipping the front desk. The problem is I've never really tried tipping at the VIP lounge as for some reason I believe it won't work (but have never tried). Prestige lounge is good if you're with some friends and wanted to drink free during happy hours (larger selection of drinks), but honestly I wouldn't use it much even if I had access.

For example I'll use the VIP lounge for the morning coffees, but if I wanted alcohol you get a bigger selection of free drinks while gambling so I'm not in there much.

Back when I had a host, I got access to the Presige lounge once and I don't remember seeing much. I have a pen.
It was a bit out of the way and they had set operating times and I found it better just to go to VIP check in, where there's a butler to get you any drinks you nwant.

I have only ever gotten coffee and sparkling water. Maybe I've gotten a bottled beer once

I remember ordering a lot of apple martinis. I even brought in a bachalorette party in there before we headed to XS and Tao. Butler was a great photographer LOL
