1 rain storm, and all of the outside escalators at the MGM / NYNY / Excalibur / Tropicana corner are down, not functioning, blocked with out of order signs. These are the escalators that lead to the walkway bridges. Every single one of them not working. Nuts.

    Not uncommon at all.

My experience with those at the Strip/Flamingo intersection gives them about 50%, with DAYS to restore each outage.

I’ve said over and over, Vegas would be a great place to start a escalator repair business

Pretty typical with any amount of rain in Vegas, from my experience. And the stairs can be very slippery, so be careful!

I'm sure the current vendor is under a low-bidder multi-year contract with very lenient mean-time-to-respond and mean-time-to-restore and minimal if any required inventory.

Rain does that in Vegas. My first night there ever in '92 it rained three inches. I didn't realize that was a deluge for the desert.

Next day there were buckets all over the strip casinos to catch the leaks. They are just not prepared for Mother Nature. I've been there in the winter when it was about 60, U was walking around in shirt sleeves while the locals had ski coats and gloves on. Pretty funny.

Happens every time it rains. I'm sure they don't want anyone electrocuted

The amount of times they're down, it makes me glad that I have to use the elevators anyway :p

Yeah I’ve seen that a few times also and it always cracks me up! One time I was walking around DT to all the casinos when it started raining and I was going into the old Western (yeah I know but I love the dive casinos) and everyone was looking outside saying how hard it was raining and to me it was just barely sprinkling, actually felt good.

Agree. I thought there were elevators by the escalators. No? (Personally, I ALWAYS use the stairs and often marvel at the (sometimes) lines waiting to take even the DOWN escalators.)

    Exaggerate much???

The highest one day total rainfall ever in Las Vegas was 2.58 inches that occurred on August 21, 1957. A distant second highest single day rainfall of 1.65 inches that occurred on August 22, 2012.

For the year 1992 that you claimed 3 inches, the heaviest one day total rainfall of 1.2 inches occurred on March 27th.

All this can be verified here

I moved here in 1991 and have been through 28 winters in Las Vegas. Rarely have I’ve seen so many locals wearing ski coats and gloves when it’s in the 60’s that it would be that noticeable. Maybe a rare incident of one or two but certainly not the majority of locals.

Current weather here is 58°F, I’ve been out and about all day in the suburbs where there are an abundance of locals and I haven’t seen one local wearing a ski coat and gloves yet.

They're hit-or-miss during ideal conditions, to be honest.

For a convention that I attended at Caesars a while back, one condition that the sponsors insisted upon before inking the deal was that they had an escalator repair person physically on site during show hours. For those who don't know Caesars Convention Center, it's on three levels and difficult to traverse without using the escalators.

Yet another good reason to spend your time downtown.

It is a small sample but how often is the elevator outside the D not functioning? I don't think I've ever noticed yellow tape or orange cones to not inaccessibility but don't notice it in general so what say ye!
