This might have been mentioned before but it seems that I can't see what a trip is going to cost.
I didn't go as far as setting a pickup or drop off point for fear of hailing a ride. That did happen when I first started.
I thought one could set both points and the cost would show up. Is that what I have to do, finish both points
but not hail them? It has been a while.
I do use a 3rd party estimator but wanted something more direct.

You didn't say in your post, but are you talking about Uber/Lyft?

I assume you're taking about ride share in which case, the app will give you an estimate once you select your pickup and destination right before you confirm pickup. It will also tell you if there is surge pricing active. The final cost is still based on mileage, standing time, etc. with Lyft you select the tip after the ride is complete.

I think perhaps Lyft Line is a set price but then you might be stopping for other passengers.

No idea what you are talking about.

There are sites available that will "estimate" uber and lyft fares based on starting and ending addresses. Seems silly to have them when the app itself will estimate your fare automatically.

Yes, I know about the double doings of a third party site. Should get it from the original site. I just didn't go all the way from pickup to drop off point to figure the costs.
Like I said, I did it once and clicked the wrong button and a car was coming and I had to cancel right away.
I guess I have to go thru all the workings and just not click 'hail' a ride share.. Surprised some others here didn't understand. I guess they have
not been in that position. Thanks for the replies.

Lyft is pretty simple to see the price estimate inside the app. Just put in your pickup location and where you want to go, then click the price estimate button. You even do it when you are no where near the pickup location.

No idea on Uber as I've never used them.

I did go through the set points and did get a estimate of the trip. I did it on both Uber and Lift.
Being as I screwed up once I had the fear it would happen again.
Thanks for the statements. It would be better to go through their app seeing as you could hail the ride then.
