I've seen a few acquaintances here and there in town, nothing more than a quick "oh hey how's it going have a good trip' type interaction. I did see an old boss of mine in the airport in Vegas coming back from a trip once - we absolutely despise each other so that was awkward but whatever.

I just remembered another unexpected and somewhat unpleasant meeting. I was attending a conference in 2012 and I ran into my old boss. This guy was terrible to me and I almost quit my job a few years prior due to him. I was in Vegas in 2009 when I decided I need to find a new job because he was simply not good for my mental health. When I got home and checked my email I saw an announcement that he was quitting! I'm still at my job, he moved on to one of our clients (and was still a thorn in my side) for a few years, but I've outlasted him in our sector and life is great without the fear of dealing with his tactics.

It was a mixed bag running into him at the conference. We lived in the same neighborhood, and dealt with each other at work, and did have a friendship at one point so it was good to see a familiar face, but you never knew when he switched from friendly mode to work mode. Work mode could sometimes be terrifying. I think I have some mild form of PTSD in relation to dealing with him.

About 10 years ago, I was at Silverton for a few hours playing. I looked up and saw a fellow unit owner in my condo building. I gawked, quickly cashed out and headed for the valet outside. I did not want to be bothered. This is a person who, EVERY time they see me in our building, asks when can we get a trip to Vegas together. I always answer I am a solo traveler, not interested.

I ran into a blogger I followed on the Strip in front of Bally’s. He was writing a book about the service profession. I taught him about the porn slappers:)! Made it onto his blog too!

A few years ago I ran into my bosses boss at the time at Cosmo at Secret Pizza was a weird experience as we both were pretty hammered.

Last April I was playing blackjack with a full table and we were having a blast for a few hours. The next week when I came back to work we got a new VP in charge of my department and immediately he asked me how did my trip end up, turns out one of the guys at the table was now one of my bosses. Now every time we talk Vegas gets brought up and when our next trip is or how the last trip was.

One year my wife & I went on a Caribbean cruise and we met & hung out with a couple from Ohio (we live on the west coast). The next year we went to the Big Island of Hawaii & guess who we run into. We were all shaking our heads saying “small world.”

A few years back I wasn't feeling well and my wife and I needed to cab to The Mirage from NYNY. We got into the cab and said Mirage and the driver recognized my Southern accent and asked where we were from. I said Georgia and he asked if I knew where Griffin was, I replied 17 miles north of our hometown. It turns out he knew my hometown well, and has been asking fares for years looking out for people from here.
It turns out as a teenage boy in the 60's he and his dad would drive from Ca. to my small hometown annually to race Go-Karts. We have hosted the World Championship's of Go-Kart racing here for decades. He started asking about local stores and some of my high school classmates, one it appeared he had a crush on.
If I hadn't been ill this wouldn't have occurred, what were the odds.
