Have the wait times for Uber/Lyft improved any now that things are more open?

Not really, though that's a lagging indicator. But honestly, don't ignore regular taxis. My fare from CP to Aria last night was $6. I tipped a little extra and just gave him an even $10.

EDIT: And there was no rideshare available at the time. I think I waited around 5 minutes in the taxi line at CP.

I am hearing that uber/lyft is price gauging and that taxi is cheaper right now. I keep seeing posts on facebook regarding this in vegas from multiple visitors. The governor ended the price gauging ban so uber/lyft is taking advantage of it and plus they have less drivers right now also, which does not help.

Just take a cab. Much better pricing.

I love uber/lyft in most other cities but I honestly don’t understand why people don’t take ol’ fashioned taxis when in Vegas. (Yeah, sometimes it’s nice to get an XL vehicle or whatever but I’m speaking in more general terms.)

To be fair, they're a godsend if you're going off-Strip, both in terms of getting there (the average Vegas cabbie does not have a complete grasp of the suburbs) and coming back (good luck getting a cab at my optometrist's office in Summerlin). But within the resort corridor, not only is it more efficient in terms of time and cost, but cabbies actually know the Strip and aren't slavishly dependent on the GPS like Uber/Lyft drivers are. I once had an Uber driver get lost going from Aria to MGM Grand, because the GPS showed some particular drop-off point for MGM Grand that was nowhere near the normal drop-off.

Ah that’s true! As a visitor, I stick to the Strip with the very rare visit Downtown. If I were to venture to non-resort places I’d definitely reconsider!

I never have a good cab ride to or from the airport ( great rides in town though) but I’m afraid I might have to take one for my next arrival. I get in around 1 am. Someone please report they had no problem getting a Lyft from the airport at 1 am lol.

Lyft from downtown grand to airport was $25 on friday morning. Uber was showing no cars available unless you took one of the higher cost options.

I’m happy to take a taxi. In the pre-Covid days I would generally use both Uber/Lyft and taxis. I’m glad to hear the cabs are readily available. Thanks for all the info, everyone!

I would rather not take a cab from the airport to downtown. I cannot imagine how much that would be. Uber/Lyft will be my first choice and then CX.

Go with whatever the cheapest route would be. Be careful of the uber/lyft drivers who are price gouging. Do not give them a penny. Know how much it should cost and find a driver who is not going to price gouge. I am against price gouging.

Thanks @SoCalMon! We will be careful. CX is definitely cheaper for us because we qualify as seniors but it may also depend on how anxious we are to get downtown once we land.

To be fair, in Vegas, the apps do the gouging for the drivers. I know in California drivers are banding together now to gouge and as a principle I will decline any ride that comes back with a revised surge price after I book.

The bus ride is not that bad. I just use the time to catch up on email, news, texting etc.

We get in at 7:30am Monday so I am hoping that there will be no price gouging with Uber/Lyft. Am I being naive?

The problem will be that there most likely will be a scarcity of drivers and the wait time might be long.

You take the bus if possible. You save $$$. For your time and inconvenience you bet 20$ on something dumb :poker: hoping for a big payback….like 2-4 on the derby (or eat 1/2 price your :feedme: first meal)…. Go with the flow…..:wiggle:

Thanks for reminding me about that. If we arrive on time, we will have about an hour wait for the next CX bus if Uber/Lyft doesn’t work out.

One thing that may work in your favor is that you are staying downtown and a driver might be willing to pick up a larger fare to downtown vs. a smaller one to the strip.
