The Croatians are using Uber? In that case England doesn't stand a chance. :D

I know this much: I've never had an Uber driver who didn't acknowledge my presence and carried on a phone conversation in a foreign language throughout the entirety of my ride. That was pretty common in Vegas with cabs.

We actually still cab from the airport most of the time, but use Uber or Lyft for any getting around ride needs. And yes, I tip. Cash if I have it, on the app if I don't.

When we first used Uber, we didn't tip, because supposedly that was how the system was set up. Then it changed. Now we tip, if appropriate.

Cash v. app ... really?!? It's amazing what turns into a feud around here.

Truth. I have never understood the idea that there is only "One True Way" (TM) to do Vegas. IMO, the beautiful thing about Las Vegas is the myriad of possibilities available for anyone who wants to visit.

If you want to go with pockets stuffed with cash or pockets stuffed with coupons? Come on down! You want to grind away in the casino 20 hours a day or lounge at the pool all day? Come on down! You want to dance at clubs until the sun comes up or get up early for a run or a hike? Come on down! You want to eat a $500 steak or a $7.99 steak? Come on down!

I don't understand why we can't come to a consensus that they way any one person does Vegas does not necessarily mean that is the way we all should do Vegas It's all much ado about nothing. And as a moderator, it's exhausting.

I understand the idea of Uber and Lyft very well. I am well over 50 and i get the point of a cashless system. The choice to tip or not is a personal one. I tip when service is good. If you and your friends choose not to tip that is fine. That is your choice.
I choose to tip in cash not because i am old but because what the IRS doesn't know is a good thing. Maybe the driver reports it maybe not. They are out there working hard and not making great pay. So if a few extra dollars goes into their pocket and Uncle Sam doesn't know about it that's fine with me.
I also know where the shift key is!

While we're having all this Uberlove ...

I'm one of those old fucks, so please be gentle. (You can tell I'm old because I capitalize and do a decent job with punctuation and what not.) How do I specify a specific type of vehicle on the app? Next week I'm going to need something that can haul two bikes, and not just us. Thanks.

No. Fraud is not involved. It would either be tax avoidance or tax evasion depending on your point of view. Either way it's the drivers choice not mine. I am sure you have always reported all your Vegas winnings even without a W-2G.;)

You can request a larger vehicle, but probably won't be equipped for bikes.

Before confirming your acceptance for an uber ride from a to b, the app gives you a choice, i.e.. a black suv for a certain price. It's simple.

Can you set something up in advance? I'm talking an early morning pickup in a remote location.

I don't have experience in pre planning an uber service, but the app ought to have it for you to practice your request.

    You can, but...

Did this when I was in NOLA and needed a ride to the airport at 4am. It worked great for me. The “but”, however, is that it is not a guaranteed ride. The way it was explained to me is that the app will wait until xx amount of time before your requested time and will then send out a request for a ride just as though you had requested it.

For me, even thought it was an odd hour, I was in NOLA so still plenty of Uber’s around. If you’re going to be in a remote location, not sure how well it would work.

Completely agree. The entire business model is built on drivers not correctly accounting for their (hidden) capitalized costs.

But like Milton Friedman said, if someone is willing to sell you something for less than it costs them to produce it, then you should buy as much of it from them as possible. And therefore, I ride with them quite a bit.
