    My Trip Report

Dad and I will be making our 3rd weekend trip together for some gambling fun in Tunica. This particular trip has been a long time in the making as we didn’t get to take one last year as (some of you may remember) dad had a heart attack and subsequently a bypass surgery that almost took his life. Hard to believe that was a year ago - the anniversary of his heart attack is Saturday.

We have had this trip scheduled for a few months when he felt that he would be ready to go. Dad came over last night as we needed to go over departure plans, but it wasn’t exactly what I thought. We had a family talk, and well, dad was diagnosed with cancer yesterday. He was in good spirits and said “the trip needs to go on.” I think he and I both are using this as a way to cope with such a rough year AND now a new battle that he faces! If I learned nothing more from this man over the last year, I definitely realize he is one resilient and optimistic man!

Our plans consist of leaving Friday by lunchtime and a roughly 4-hour car drive to Tunica. We will be staying at Sam’s Town. I know a lot of people will knock ST, but hey, it’s comped! They have all the amenities that we need which mostly consists of beds, bathroom, and air conditioning. After checking in, the plan is to hit every craps table in town until we leave on Sunday! We might find some time for VP and some other games….we will see.

Prayers for your dad kicking cancer. I lost my dad two years ago to cancer and really cherish our road trips to Vegas.

@PressThe5n9 - wishing you and your dad a wonderful time. Cherish the moments. We used travel with my mom and aunt (her bff) to Vegas. Never saw two old ladies with more energy (they never seemed to need sleep). I smile every time I think about memories from those trips.

    Required Pet Pictures:

This joker decided that she must be all up in the business of packing, but when it comes to actual work, well, she’s less than helpful. The picture was taken while my wife was packing for her weekend in Gatlinburg with a few of the kids.

The more sophisticated cat doesn’t care about anyone leaving and also refused to pose for a picture. So here is an older photo of her during a typical day.

Now it’s time to get things to the car and go to work for a few hours to get some last-minute items complete. After that it’s time to pick up dad and hit the road!

Have a safe drive to Tunica and hope you have an awesome weekend with your pops. Positive thoughts to him to get through this next fight.

Nothing wrong at all with Sam's Town, well I'm not crazy about the AC in the rooms but a box fan in the room will help. Enjoy your trip with your dad.

Made it to Tunica with no issues. Got checked into the room promptly. Managed to get ourselves situated and ready to go hit the gaming floor. Let’s see if we can take a win in Round 1!

Had to make the rounds and check out minimums. For those of you interested, here is what I saw on Friday afternoon/evening:

    1st Jackpot - $10; $5 RTW
    Horseshoe - $25 (4 tables); $10 RTW
    Gold Strike - $25 (2 tables), $15 (2 tables including 1 crapless)
Hollywood - not open when we went in
    Fitz - $10
    Sam’s Town - $25

First round of was at First Jackpot for about 2+ hours and down $175. Kept even for a bit then got into a hole and couldn’t get out. It was a great table for hard 6s and I kept the buy-in somewhat stable by hitting some 4s and 10s but just couldn’t get back to even. Dad played roulette and was down $29 during the same stint.

Heading out to find some dinner now. Certainly will be another round of craps before bedtime.

ETA: Sam’s minimum of $25 is total in action (not including odds bets, with a minimum of $5 per bet). Had to ask for clarity since the table placard was the green $25.

Headed over to the BetMGM Sportsbook Grill for dinner. Food was good and service was alright. Took a bit of time to get our drinks and order taken, but after that, our server was on top of the game and constantly checking in with us.

I opted for the BBQ brisket nachos.

Back at Sam’s now and have put on about 10k steps today. Might take a moment to relax and head back downstairs to see if I can claw any losses back before calling it a night.

If you want to step away for a little bit during the day go drive to the blue and white restaurant in tunica. Good food and a break from the casinos.

Thanks, but the only stepping away is to find another table and get some food or sleep. :D

So another round in the books for tonight. Maybe 90 minutes but about 30 of it was solo shooting. When I joined there were 6 players at the table and it was COLD absolutely meat locker frigid! I was down over $200 in almost no time at all and that sting was real.

Cue an hour later and there are 3 of us at the table and no one wants to shoot. They tell me it’s all on me to make us some dough. I proceed to have a couple of short hands to keep even and then it comes. The mid-range monster shows up and I’m rolling pretty fast since there’s hardly any bets needing to be paid. Throw about 25-30 rolls and have almost $400 on the table by the time it’s over. Brought back the second round and walked away with a positive $28. I could have had more but you want to believe you’re invincible on a roll like that. It helped to roll three 10s in a row!

It’s time to get some sleep and be back at the tables in the morning.

The morning session included dad playing some bubble-type roulette and individual bubble craps. He enjoyed the little craps machine until he started losing money! I think he was down $25 or so for his time. Says he’s going to try saving more money for tonight.

I fiddled around on the individual craps game as well and broke even. It was more of a time watching him have fun and figure out how best to win a 20 cents at a time! :haha:

EDIT: Added picture of dad doing his calculations at lunch.
    79D4F7F3-5635-496D-A002-9FDA4E54E7DC.jpeg

I did pony up to a craps table again, and same result, down too much after only a few rolls. You would think I would learn? I did manage to get back some of it but this has just been a brutal start to every table session. Hard to be up when there’s a early hole. This town isn’t done taking my money yet!

We took a short break to Smokey Joe’s at Sam’s. I had a food comp so needed to use it on something healthy, right? We both got a Cobb salad, salt & vinegar chips, and a drink each. I decided to have some of the yella (fat-free Italian dressing) on mine.
