We have taken 61 up to Memphis & back to Tunica on multiple trips - in daylight we have had no issues. And yes, it's odd because you do have the contrast in just a mile between 'shacks' and then new high priced subdivisions.

I actually like the buffet at Horseshoe . Pretty decent food. Snack bar was better before it went to a 'name' brand that charges 2x RCs. However for breakfast we actually go out to the highway and eat at Waffle House lol. I'm a WH junkie. Our stays have always been at Horseshoe & we have had a higher floor room - very comfortable.

In Tunica we have done the riverboat ride, the Tunica Riverpark museum a couple times, the Blues museum (near where you turned into Harrahs when it was there), and the Tunica museum at edge of town. In Memphis obviously Sun Studios, Beale St, Rock and Soul (?) Museum, Gibson Factory Tour, Peabody ducks, Graceland and a bunch of BBQ joints. Some of those multiple times. Probably forgetting a few things.

I'm a glutton for punishment, we went there weekend of August 5th for wife's birthday. Now I'm going back on 9/10 after a tennis tournament in Little Rock.

Yeah, we almost always take I-69 as well for those reasons. Plus we often want to fill up or eat in Southaven/Horn Lake on the way in. Google says it adds 7 minutes and 12 miles. Worth it to us.

And that concealed weapons are illegal in Tunica casinos. But I think they may be legal in Biloxi casinos? Never been to the latter place.

Yeah, my app says the same, but I am not sure I believe it. Hwy 61 has some stoplights as you leave Memphis, which I am not certain are taken into account. I can recall trips where it seems I hit every light. 69 is definitely a few miles longer, but I think I make the same time with less traffic

You're right, they did use to have live music EVERY night, at least HS and GS did and I thought GS still did Thursday - Sunday?? but now maybe just Friday and Saturday?

Fri/Sat. is a guarantee in many casinos. Gold Strike doesn't do Sunday in the football season at least. I think HS still does Sun./Mon. at the "Legends" bar. I can't remember the last time I have been there on a Thursday...

Live music is one of the things I really hate about Tunica though...lol

So, to revisit this conversation after a few months, we ended up booking a Memphis vacation for our anniversary this summer, but I decided to cut Tunica out of the trip. Originally, I had been thinking about staying there for four days of the trip and doing some day trips to places on the Mississippi Blues Trail and some rock n' roll sites, but then CET apparently lost their minds and cut my comps to about a 1/4 of what they had been. Nice way to treat loyal customers who spent thousands of dollars per trip, right?

In a funny way, though, we still ended up getting our lodging comped in Memphis. I started playing in Golden Nugget Atlantic City's legal online casino and I won over $1000 playing slots. Then, we turned around and booked a luxury condo three blocks from Beale Street for $150/night on AirBnB. We don't even need to rent a car, because almost everything is within easy walking distance of this AirBnB, except for Graceland and Sun Studio, but there's a free shuttle bus to those places from the Rock N' Soul Museum.

I wish I could include a little gambling in this trip, because I have fun with that, but CET is the only operator in Tunica that I have significant status with and it was much cheaper to just play online legally and then book AirBnB. Especially since the place comes with a full kitchen so we can make our own breakfast and lunch each day and save even more money.

I wonder how long it will take until CET changes their new stupid comp policies.

The rates at the Gold Strike(Mlife), which has very nice rooms, my wife prefers these rooms and the casino. Looking at the rate calendar the rooms run $59 Sun-Thurs and $119 Fri-Sat.(plus $12 resort fee). This is if you want to spend the night in a casino and they are pretty liberal with backend comps. During the week all the other casinos have pretty cheap room rates.
