Well, the bankroll is down to $984 now. (plus some outstanding sports tickets that may or may not win).

Got lots of little bonuses on slots throughout the evening, but just enough to really keep playing, never enough to really call it a day.

The casino is getting a little livlier (and rowdier than I'd expect from Mandalay Bay) But it's nice to see them opening more tables. Still had $10 6/5 CSM BJ, around 5PM.

    Getting dressed now for dinner!

Big MB fan. Never stayed at Delano, I’m not a fan of the walk to the casino.
Love slotsky slot. Such a Donald Duck rip off I’m surprised it was allowed. That one area near the cage has really fun old slots.

Enjoying the tr and pics. Best of luck for the rest of the trip.

I can appreciate this feeling, because I feel exactly this way about Excalibur in general. I just went through my MLife win loss statements, and though I haven't played there more than a few times, my LIFETIME hold on slots at Excalibur is 52% which is worst, for me, by leaps and bounds, of any casino, anywhere, ever, and wouldnt even be legal if normal. Over our Thanksgiving trip, I did the best I've ever done there in terms of coin in to coin out, and the hold was still a little over 20%. Its just got my bad mojo somehow.

That sucks about the Excalibur! Its actually one of the places where I'm positive, for the year.

Just got back to my room. We had dinner at Hugo's Cellar, at the 4 Queens. Great place, but anywhere they serve you steak while wearing a tuxedo has to be good!

But even more interesting, my friend's dad used to work at this place for I don't even know how long, now retired. All the waitstaff knew him and the daughters though. He contacted the head chef to let them know we were coming (his 2 daughters, his son in law, and some random stranger (me) he barely knows of).

Once we got seated, the sommelier told us that the head chef gave us a complimentary bottle of wine, and he brought it out.
I don't drink at all, and no nothing about wine, but it was cool to feel like a VIP. :p The 3 of them said it was good, at least!

    On to the food!
    https://imgur.com/gallery/G4o0XG6

To start with, they brought out a delectable selection of breads. I really loved the pretzel rolls. So fluffy in the inside, with a nice crisp outside. The butter, I'm not sure what kind, was also amazing. A perfect compliment.

Next was the table side salad buffet! They bring out a portable salad station, and make the salad for you! They ask about all these different toppings (unfortunately for you all reading this, I'm pretty plain when it comes to salads) including roasted pine nuts, anchovies, tomatoes, etc, and your choice of 3 different amazing dressings.

Then before the main course, the waiter comes by with these 4 little ice cream cones, that have lemon sorbet in them, to cleanse your palate apparently? I don't know anything about that, but it was tart and tasty!

    Now onto the main course...
I ordered the surf and turf. A petite filet mignon, medium, and 4 jumbo shrimp, and garlic mashed potatoes. She ordered the scallops.

My filet was perfect. So tender, it was melting in my mouth. And the grounded peppercorns on top were perfect! I love when a restaurant doesn't drown out the flavors of the meat with all these sauces, but rather letting the filet speak for itself. This was perfect.
The shrimp was also really good, but nothing special about it.
    The potatoes were also delicious!

They also brought out these chocolate covered fruits for dessert! I loved the strawberry.

Oh and for my drink I got a coke, and it came in a cute bottle.

On the gambling front, nothing since my last post, but one of my football bets came through!

Oh and the ring was accepted.

    Story in the next post.

Aaand as I'm typing this, my friend figured out this website and my username on this website... everyone say hi! (And tell her thanks for tolerating me!)

Alright, so ring story. This isn't really related to Vegas at all, well...sorta.

So I actually met this girl, well call her "VegasChick" (as my coworker calls her), on the 5th of July. Me and my coworker were here in Vegas for the 4th of July, and I was on Tinder, doing tourist things, as a young male does. I matched with VegasChick, and once she saw I was a dumb tourist, she wanted to stop talking to me. I somehow managed to convince her to keep talking to me, and we met the next morning (about 3 hours before me and coworker had to drive back to Denver) the 5th of July, at a Denny's for breakfast.

Breakfast went well, and we sort of long term dated. We played video games together, and I actually flew back again a couple of weeks later to hang out with her in Vegas. She then came to Colorado later for a weekend, and I showed her all the typical Colorado things. At that point we realized we don't really work well as a couple and just stayed as friends. I then came to Vegas again a few weeks later, and she drove me all around the Las Vegas Valley, visiting dumpy casinos. (See my trip report, Dumpy Casinos Adventure). I came to Vegas again after that, before this current trip, to hang out with her and meet her sister and brother in law.

That's where the ring story first starts.
Her sister and brother-in-law are REALLY confused about our relationship. They hear/see me buying her all these fancy meals and us hanging out all the time, but don't quite understand it....so you see, back in college, I proposed to a girl, on the first date. It was a fake proposal, she knew it was fake, fake ring and all. We got some great photos out of it because we did it in public.

VegasChick saw these photos and her first words were "wtf are you wearing". (I was wearing a striped t shirt, cargo shorts, and black sneakers with white socks!) Anyway I explained the whole fake proposal thing to her and she found it, uh... amusing.

So my previous trip, I bought a fake ring at the Luxor gift shop! (Pure coincidence, the other gift shops didn't have any. I saw it at Luxor and knew I had to do this...)

I gave it to her at Gallaghers steakhouse one night that trip, (but she wouldn't let me get down on one knee and propose!).

Then a couple weeks later, the stone fell out of it. Damn hotel gift shop rings.

So today I bought a nicer ring! Then at dinner with her and her family, I make a small stupid announcement about how were making things official, and give my friend the ring!

I think at this point, her sister and BIL know we are just friends, but I still think it's funny.

I havent been to Hugo's Cellar yet, but it's on the list based solely on the many reviews I've seen in TRs here.

Always fun being treated like a VIP. My favorite thing about pre-covid Vegas is living the rock star life for a few days here and there. I think having my car parked right at the front door of Caesars Palace is one of my favorite all time Vegas memories - told the story in my TR last June, which I think was my first one on VMB

You reminded me of Le Cirque which is my favorite of all the dining experiences I've had in Vegas I think. They have a white chocolate pretzel bread that's the bomb. I cant wait until they re-open. They also bring out mini sorbet palette cleanser cones, but theirs are blood orange. All pretzel breads are awesome to me, so this makes me want Hugo's Cellar more.

And, hey friend! Thanks for tolerating @ColoVegPlayer

Le Cirque sounds great! If they weren't closed, I'd definitely reschedule one of my dinners to be there!

Woke up at 6 this morning, couldn't sleep. The girl I'm dating back home sent me a text, her dog got killed by a car yesterday, so that really sucked, spent a few hours last night talking with her.

Going to grab breakfast again at Citizens, but not the pancakes.

Later today my friend is picking me up and we're gonna get in n out, then tonight is Gallaghers. Overall the day isn't really planned out, we'll see what happens.

Got a california omelette at Citizens. Much better than the pancakes!

Going to play some video poker for a while and then maybe make some sports bets.

Currently 6000 tier credits away from Platinum! Should have that after tonight's dinner, I think.

Good gambling so far this morning.

+$40 on slots (Thanks again Monty Python), then spent 45 mins playing blackjack, walked away +$50.

Then won $200 on video poker! Good start to the morning, to add some cash back to the bankroll.

Recounted all my money, at $1241, plus around $100 in outstanding football bets.

While I was playing blackjack, the guy on the other end really had no idea what he was doing...and he was betting $100 to $600 a hand. I felt bad for him, he should have moved to the $35 3/2 table! Worst was when he put his whole stack out, got 8,8 vs dealer 6, and couldn't split.

He was also unsure about hitting his 12 v 10, when he had the larger bets out. When it was only a $50 bet he knew exactly what to do. Sucks when the size of bet makes you unsure of what to do! Sadly he walked away with $0.

My current football bets are all set to resolve today, except for one.

    1) $5 on the falcons to win (+240)
    2) $10 Under on the chiefs/saints, 53.5(-110)
    3) $5, 2 Team Parlay, 49ers and Chiefs, to collect $13.40
    4) $11, 4 team parlay, packers bills colts rams, to collect $26.60
    5) $10, 4 team parlay, ravens browns cardinals steelers, to collect $22.50

I don't know much about sports or football, but it's fun to make the bets haha. Ill probably go make some football bets and watch a game. Any suggestions on what to bet?

Before lunch, I walked over to Luxor. Bought another little gift for the girl back home, and went to the bar to play some VP. Didn't do well on it, but watched some sports while playing. I thought this was really neat because even though they had a divider between each machine, they were in groups of 2, so if you want to play with your spouse, it's really easy. (I know someone earlier asked about this)

At 12:30 she picked me up for lunch.

For lunch, we went to In n Out, and she paid!

Then we went to Sunset Station Casino. I really like this place. Most of the tables were open, including $5 Free Bet blackjack (dealt out of a shoe, and pays 3/2!), $5 6 deck 3/2, $10 DD BJ, and $10 Faceup Pai Gow.

I had SO much fun here. Me and her played on the roulette machine, $2 at a time. Then I played some table games while she got coffee.

I started off on free bet blackjack, buying in for $100. Did ok, I was playing the pot of gold side bet, and it never hit...until the last hand. Split 3 times and doubled down, which paid 50 to 1! Cashed out of there with $175.

Then I went to play the double deck game, and bought in for an extra $25 for a flat $200. Proceeded to get my butt handed to me, couldn't win more than 1 hand in a row. Cashed out for $50... Took it over to Pai Gow. I did ok, dwindled down to $30 at the end. My tablemate on the right was a high roller, betting $1200 to $1500 a hand. I felt like a small fry in comparison with my $10 bets!
But we were both tipping the dealer and her bucket was getting full!

We then switched back to the electronic roulette, and won another $3 :D.

I was like 26 points shy of being able to redeem my points for freeplay. So I took my hard earned $23 over to a 100 draw video poker machine. Proceeded to lose it all, and fed another $20 in. But I got my 26 points!

Went over to a kiosk, and we learned you actually need 5000 points to redeem $5...not 1000 points for $1. :(

Took the remaining $10.40 on my ticket, and told my friend "if I'm going down, I'm going down swinging!". Went to a $1 video poker machine, and 2 spins later I had 40 cents. Blew it all through on a 5c machine, and we left.

Overall down $165 from Sunset, but being able to play cheap table games was worth it.
I did like that their promo kiosk is running an unlicensed version of Windows 10... C'mon guys, don't risk getting a fine from Microsoft over that. I just donated enough for them to buy a license key

Now we're heading back to the strip so she can see my suite, and then we're headed towards Gallaghers for dinner.

She also says hello to everyone here on VMB and had been reading what I write about our trips. Guess I gotta watch myself now!

What a beautiful night. Literally and figuratively.

Currently typing this up from my suite, looking out at the surrounding city lights, the glimmer of traffic heading back to L.A. I'm sure.

    Night photos:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/0vftlWf

After we got back to my suite, we watched TV and scrolled on our phones for a bit. Fulfilled the destiny of pooping in BOTH toilets in the suite also!

We then headed to Gallaghers for dinner. It was scrumptious. I needed around 3100 tier credits to hit Platinum, which is right around $150 meal before tip/tax. (Might be fuzzy on the exact tier credits needed but I knew the exact dollar amount, 149.8, to hit Platinum)

As usual, they bring out some delicious bread. The cranberry bread is by far the best, very noisy and fluffy.

My drink was a cherry pepsi, and was extremely cherry-ey.

They did recently change the menu. I would sometimes get the surf and turf, but they changed the price a LOT. Now you are the surf and turf to any other steak, for a whopping extra $89. Not a fan of that.

I ordered the bone in NY strip, and she got the scallops. This was my first time ordering it, I usually get the filet or ribeye.
Man, this thing was a THICC (with two C's!) steak! Unfortunately I think that was it's best feature. It was difficult to cut, a little tougher than I'd like, and the flavor wasn't nearly as good as filet or other strips I've had. It was filling, but not something I'd do again. However, her scallops were delightful as usual, and she says they are her favorite ones out of all the places we went.

For dessert, I got the strawberry cheesecake, as usual, and oh man this is the BEST. I've had lots of cheesecake, but seriously this thing is the bomb. The bee's knees. The whole shebang. Seriously I'd you're in the area, just order the cheesecake to go for dessert!

She got the toffee pudding. It was ok in my opinion, but I don't like toffee. The vanilla ice cream was good though! But she thoroughly enjoyed it!

    Gallaghers Pics:
    https://imgur.com/gallery/SJNTWs1

The bill came out to $110. This means I needed around 970 credits to reach platinum. Darn! I was already down a fair amount for the trip and want to save some for the el cortez and Red Rock.

We went to the NYNY gift shop and I bought another fridge magnet, because I'm a nerd.

She then dropped me off the in Delano/MB Uber area.

I have a choice to make. Do I go left, to my room, or to the right, to the casino floor?

Against better mathematical judgement, I went to the right. Into the MB casino.

First thing I noticed (and saw after dinner at NYNY) is that it had died down again. Pretty quiet overall.

A lot of the tables were empty, but dealers standing there. But they also raised the minimums to $15, despite being empty. I'll never understand that, but I'm sure it makes financial sense.

    Anyway, I had a mission.
    970 tier credits.
Around $350 coin in on slots would do it.
But I only had around $300 in my wallet at the time, and we all know how fickle the gambling gods can be.

In theory I was guaranteed to hit Platinum that night, but I really didn't want to burn though this cash.

I started back at my old friend, Monty Python. I stuck 3 $20 bills in, and started spinning. Started with the 50 cent bets, and went up and down the bet limits. A few small line hits here and there, nothing major. (Despite it making a lot of hooplah about a $17 dollar win)

But then it happened. On a $1 bet, (max is $5 minimum is 50 cents) That cheeky little bugger, the black knight, appeared. I hit the bonus round, and got all 4 parts of it too (IE, all his limbs cut off and a 10x multiplier, plus a great clip to watch. "We'll call it a draw then!" ). Resulted in a $261 win.

I was set. I knew I could burn down $200 of that and easily generate the coin in needed for platinum.

Cashed out, and walked over to a DaVinci Diamond machine. I love this game, you can sit here forever with a $20. Generated a good bit of coin in, but dwindled down on the cash to $250 or so.

Decided to finish off my tier credits on some video poker, deuces wild spin poker, in fact.

Played the 10 cents denomination, so $4.50 a spin. A lot higher than I'd usually do, but hey I was trying to make some coin in!

It really didn't go well. I was down to $200, and about to cash out, thinking I probably had the credits by now. I figured I'd give it one last spin. Got 2 deuces, but nothing else. Held those two and pressed spin...

4 deuces. 1000 credits. Unfortunately it didn't line up with more than one line, but still. A nice $100 pick up. I cashed out my ticket for $334 or so.

Went and cashed it, and went to the MLife desk to see if I was upgraded...

Well, I'll let you see the photos!

    20201220_223626.jpg 20201220_213031.jpg 20201220_212958.jpg

Current bankroll is up to $1246. Still down overall, but a good bounce back. Still have 3 outstanding sports tickets, and a bunch of others that are not exactly...winners...

Will this get me anything? Almost certainly not. My total coin in for the year is less than $25k. Most of my credits came from dining and hotel rooms, and I'm sure MGM knows that. Am I still happy to have the card? Heck yeah. Its shiny.

And now, I'm off to bed.

Gotta work a tiny bit tomorrow morning, and then I'm officially done with work for the year!

Genuine question, coming from someone who doesn't really ever check into these things as much as perhaps he should. What $ value do you assign to Platinum? I had a quick look on MLife and didn't really see much there that I would cheerfully want to set light to any $$ in order to get. Skipping lines would definitely be a good value to me, as would free parking (when charges return.)

Great question. From my understanding, CET Diamond (or 7 stars or diamond elite or whatever its called for their upper tiers) is much more valuable, ie, no resort fees + diamond dinner. I don't play at CET anymore, since they've never sent me any sort of offer even though I stayed and played exclusively with them for 2 years.
With MLife you don't get resort fees waived with tier, the only hard benefits are the bonus on slot points earned, retail discount, line skipping, priority check in, and whatever the VIP check in entails (I've read it's stuff like free tickets to the shark tank, or free roller coaster ride, etc. A free pass to the main entertainment at the hotel you're at).

In theory, the cruise is very fascinating to me. I'd love to get that offer, but I know I won't qualify. I remember @DaiLun actually made a thread about it.

For me, I really just wanted to see if I could get to the top tier. (other than Noir which I'll never come close to)

I don't even have a host or ever talked to one. Since I only have around 25k coin in for the YEAR, (with under $1300 loss), I'm a small fish who isn't very valuable to MGM. All my points came from fine dining, basically, because if the 25x multiplier (plus the 3x with the MLife credit card) To me, that's okay, as it's one of my favorite parts of Vegas. (I'm the guy who, at home, eats mcdonald's and ChickfilA usually)

But the overall answer to your question? Maybe a dollar value of like $500? The line skipping is nice, since you never seen to have enough time in Vegas. But overall, it isn't worth it. With any casino program, chasing tier is hardly ever worth it. I was going to spend the money anyway with MGM (have 2 more meals planned with them this trip, just wanted to get Plat before today) You'll save more money by just buying the things you want, of course. But now I can say I "made it".

If you make Platinum via "mostly" gaming, you get a 5 day cruise. NOTE: The cruise lines that mLife partners with DO NOT sail out of Southern California (AFAIK), so you are "stuck" with the Caribbean Cruises. I am still waiting to get nmy cruise offer, so I can find out:

1)Is it (reasonably) upgradeable to 7 days
    2)Are Asia/Europe cruises eligible
3)All of the other stuff, like what type cabin, etc. etc.)

Other than that, the fact that the hosts can provide you with back end comps WITHOUT decreasing your point balance is nice.

I originally planned to maintain Gold level because it provides complimentary valet service (I have osteoarthritis in both knees, so valet is preferred), but with the lowered levels and my increased spend, I somehow ended up making Platinum.

I still plan to make Diamond Plus with CET, but I'm going to "work" the mLife Platinum for all I can this year, especially with the changes to the host program.
